Davenport going out that early definitely had an impact and by the time Rankins went down in the 3rd their defense was really toast.

IIRC, Cook went out in the 2nd. That was after he scored two TDs on them.

Did I do it right??

The Saints just marched down the field on them. In the second half, NO got an INT off Garrapolo on SFs first drive, but only went 4 plays for 3 yards and kicked a FG.

Then the Saints fumbled their next possession, kicked a FG on their next possession, turned the ball over on downs, then TD, TD, both of those long 75-yard drives as well.

The Saints lit the 49ers defense up, both through the air and on the ground. If not for the Saints crapping themselves on that first possession in the second half, they would've won that game.

The Saints scored on 8 out of 12 possessions.

The NO defense really didn't show up. They must be horrible on that side of the ball.

Oh jeeez. Here we go again. Our ELITE defense was missing pieces. All those pieces finally got healthy 2 weeks ago.

That would give you an idea, but would still not be our offense. He was still 1 yard from 28 points despite all of that.

Andy Reid clowned you’re DC last year with his play designs. He ran that defense out of the building before showing mercy at half.
Your defense was confused the entire game.

That’s what you’re dealing with dude. It’s going to be extremely difficult for your defense to hold us under 35 points.

You’re right. I don’t even know why we’re playing. Should just hand over the Lombardi now.

So two guys don't suit up and your defense can't stop anybody. Interesting.

And even with all your pieces, Aaron Rodgers throws for over 320 and 2 TDs . . .

With just two weapons.

Curiouser and curiouser . . .

I absolutely think you guys can win. The key will be your front 4. Those pass rushers have to have great games and get to Mahomes consistently, especially on key downs.

That’s the key for you guys winning, but it will be extremely difficult

Similar stuff being posted by Niner fans on their forum, but I don’t see any KC folks on that site arguing with them about it. Personally I think Vegas is correct about this being a 50/50 ballgame. Should be more entertaining than last year.

comochiefsfan 01-22-2020 05:05 PM

Go to their message board. They have absolutely zero respect for us.

They are convinced that stopping Mahomes will be easy and that we are no match for their high powered defense.

You would’ve thought that teams had learned by now. You are not going to stop Mahomes. You just don’t. No matter how good your defense is, he’s better than them.

I look forward to reading the horror and shock on their board during the game as they realize that he is shredding their “unsolvable” defense.

I have seen all i need to see from Mahomes. He has too much dog in him to let this one slip and this year, he actually has backup on the defensive side of the ball to help his case.

Sure, the niners have seen Wilson (2x) and Murray (2x) but Pat is just different. If their fans are too blinded by the fact they beat a Kirk Cousins that played like his true self and an Aaron Rodgers that I cannot understand why he looked like he didn't care...then it's their choice

Dee Ford isn't a run stopper. He actually facilitates the opposing team's run game by running away from the RB. Or getting completely washed out, or just missing the tackle . . .

But losing 4-5 guys makes more sense. Your buddy said that it was two guys.

You lost all your run stoppers....which is why Brees threw for 350 yards and 5 TDs. You only gave up 116 yards on the ground.

I'm reminded of that Rams defense we faced last year. It was dominant and did give us fits.

We lost but we put up 50 points.

Rodgers had 43 yards passing in the 1st half. He lit it up in the 2nd when the pass rush wasn't getting home very often. Obviously that can't happen in Miami if we're going to have a legit chance.

Even in victory I can't remember the last time the 49ers slowed down Brees, even when we had Willis & Bowman and crew. He's always had our number, especially in the dome.

Just a reality check...in that game, Ford, Tartt and Alexander all did not play. That's 3 pro bowl quality players replaced by Marcel Harris, Sheldon Day/Valoaga, and Al-Shaair. You can dismiss it as an "excuse" or you can (more reasonably) conclude that perhaps the 49ers showing against NO is not the same defense KC will see in the SB.

I don't understand the dismissive attitude about Ford. Yeah, he's oft injured, but when he's not, he's an elite pass rusher -- who unfortunately for KC is prone to an occasional brain fart.

He will not get around Mitchell Schwartz.

Whoever lines up on that side will be a non factor.

The Franchise 01-22-2020 05:41 PM

If the 49ers defensive gameplan is to play a lot of zone.....then I’m going to assume that we’ll aim for a lot of lengthy drives where our players find the soft spot in the zone and sit down for Mahomes. Get the ball out of his hands quickly to negate their rush. Once they’re tired.....then you hit them with the deep kill shots.

I grant you the missing players hurting the efficiency of the DL.

But they went into the game knowing they had to have an answer, and gave up 4 TDs in a row in the first half.

Then in the second half it looks they finally made the right adjustments; NO fumbles away a possession, punts and kicks a FG. Seems like the Niners defense figured out how to stop NO. Then they allow two TDs in the 4th quarter. So apparently their fix was very temporary.

Regardless, if your defense plays anywhere near that level, or doesn't make adjustments that stick, they're going to have a tough day against Mahomes and co.

I liked the offense against Chicago. Controlled the clock, which helps the KC defense. They could have scored 40 in that game if they needed it, but it was a dominant performance against a good defense even with less than 30 points.

As a Cal alum, I have the utmost respect for Schwartz. Crazy to think Cal has had that many great linemen (e.g., Alex Mack too) but still suck. Ford would normally line up against Schwartz, but lately they have been moving guys around for maximum impact.

Agreed. It's going to be tough even if they are at full strength and have a good scheme. With the WR speed KC has and Mahomes ability to throw with any arm action, no lead will be safe. Ask the Texans.

100%. To try and do anything else against their rush would be a mistake, IMO.

There will be opportunities to hit big plays at times, especially with KCs speed to create YAC. But for the most part Patrick is going to have to take what they give in the short to intermediate areas. Good news — that’s exactly what he did last year and this preseason against their scheme.

Our receivers need to leave it all on the field. They need to finish every single route like they’re going to get the ball every single time. Those DBs will tire quickly against our elite speed.

A lot of receivers are notorious for not giving it their all on run plays to the opposite side and plays like that. We need to be locked in every single play and leave it all on the field.

I should also add — this is really important for staying ahead of the chains. If we do that, Ford will be near useless as really the only threat he presents is pinning his ears back on sure pass downs.

Hey, don't take my word for it; we've seen Ford get punked by WRs, TEs, a water boy . . .

He's a straight liability against the run, he can't set an edge if you gave him a protractor, he gets blocked by WRs and scat backs, has no coverage skills, and has only one move. And that's without talking about his uncanny ability to line up or just jump off-sides on a regular basis.

And when we first got him, I liked him. But his ceiling turned out to be very low. He's okay on 3rd-and-long. But tends to disappear against quality OTs. So as long as you're willing to understand that he's very limited as a DE/OLB, you're good.

While its no certainty we're going to be able to shut the Chiefs offense down completely, we're certain The Chiefs defense will not be able to stop our offense.
Thats why we about to beat the shit out the Yall. 49ers by 2 possessions.

Every fanbase comes in here and says that. Then our defense stops their offense. Every time. And they just disappear. It's weird.

Is capitalizing random words a thing in SF - like saying hella and shitting on the sidewalk?

staylor26 01-22-2020 06:41 PM

The 49ers fans that think they even have a chance of beating us by double digits are ****ing hilarious.

Is anybody going to tell them it’s been almost like 40 games since we’ve lost by more than 8?

I didn’t say I think we’re going to blow you guys out. The Niners are clearly a great team that have earned my respect.

The lack of humility your fanbase is showing towards Patrick Mahomes is hilarious though.

You’re in for a rude awakening if you think your defense is just going to shut us down.

Nope. Normal Bay Area public school education.

Not sure what you were trying to say there; maybe you should smoke less weed so that you can type understandable English?

However, the gist seems to be that you think your team is going to blow out the Chiefs.

In the two years that Mahomes has led the Chiefs KC has never lost by more than 7 points. Even when he was injured.

And there is a significant chance that the Chiefs blow out the 49ers. Something like 20% chance of it.

My gut says it will be fairly close; 8 points probably, but there is a real possibility that the Chiefs run away with this game early in the 3rd.

Sorry if a bunch of journeymen players and one superstar in George Kittle don’t scare me.

You might remember Derrick Henry had just rushed for 180yds+ in 3 consecutive games. That was an NFL record. And people talked about their offensive scheme like it was unstoppable.

We then proceeded to hold him to 69yds and his lowest average per carry since week 6.

Not sure why that would make it impossible to stop your rush. And then it's Garappolo throwing the ball? We've feasted on less mobile QBs this year.

So, that's how. Or you can look at how we did the same to Dalvin Cook earlier in the season who looks a lot more like Mostert.

**** Derrick Henry, You're comparing apples to oranges when you try to equate his rushing stats to our running scheme.

Pretty much the same way it stops every other offense.

Get one stop when a score gives us the lead.

Get one stop with the lead. Lead increases.

Double dip by the offense end of half/start third quarter.

Your gameplan becomes one dimensional, and Jimmy Gamemanager is gonna have to carry the team with his arm, with Frank Clark and Chris Jones all over him.

Shanahan is TERRIFIED to put the ball in Jimmys hands. Hell, he only let him throw 8 passes, and he STILL damn near threw a pick lol.

When you get down 2 possessions and the game falls on Jimmy G, its over.
