It just kind of depends on the beer, some of the bigger imperial stouts have a lot more flavor at room temps. A recent example of this was Mother's MILF, that stuff opened up so much the warmer it got.

Maybe that will bring the price down a bit.... these $9 six packs make me poor. Lagunitas has easily become my favorite brewery. Still looking for a reliable place to find Daytime. That would be the perfect hot summertime beer... |
Just cracked a Grand Teton Sweetgrass.
Not at all impressed. Actually thinking of dumping it. |
Odell Tree Shaker was really tasty
|
Prolly not on the list but I'm having a Bitch Creek Special Brown Ale....mmmmm
|
Love Child spotted.
|
Happy Parabola Day!
Picked up a few in Lee's Summit this morning. Probably my favorite barrel aged stout of them all. |

|
The best part, it's cheaper than last year. I want to say they charged like $16 or $17 for it last year. Only $13 this year!

Picked up a few Love Childs tonight. Good stuff!
|
Widmer Brother Rye IPA tonight, keeping it simple.

Where is Blue Moon? I tried Allagash White and it tasted like water
|
Quote:
Alagash White is far superior to Blue Moon lol. You should be able to taste the difference in quality. Blue Moon is a coors product fyi and Alagash makes nice beer. Their alagash black is awesome. |

Who else went to the Microwbrew Fest? Find any new favorites?
We started with Blind Tiger's Java Porter, which was pretty tasty... one of the better coffee beers I've tried... and we stuck with stouts and porters throughout (once you go black...). We tried several that didn't really stick out of the crowd (Hey, look, here's a stout with chocolate, coffee, and caramel notes!), but the one that did was River City Brewing's 4 Horsemen Imperial Stout... aged in Wild Turkey barrels with cherries. Anyone know if it's available outside of their restaurant? It was pretty damn good. I wanted to give Boulevard's grape beer a try, but figured I wouldn't get much out of it after all the stouts. I was disappointed with ODell's lack of offerings, but there was plenty of other good beer. Good times. |
The Boulevard Test Nelson was really good. Like 3 pours good. Light and easy drinking. The Nebraska barrel aged stuff was awesome as usual. River City's beers were very good too. The Imp Stout you mentioned earlier and Macy's Halo were really, really tasty. We got to hang at the Boulevard tent towards the end and put down some Love Child 3 and Rye on Rye, a special treat.
|
Anybody try any of the Peace Tree stuff yesterday? Friend of mine started that brewery and it's in my hometown. I love their delicious concoctions.
|
Anyone a fan of left hand brewing company? I like the milk stout a lot. Also Mothers brewing Co. had/has? a bad ass seasonal Imperial Stout called MILF.
|
Yes to both.
|
Tried Ska Brewing's Hibernal Vinifera Stout tonight... a stout with malbec grape juice. I've seen Hoperandi around, so I'll have to look for this next time... pretty good stuff.
|
KC locals, keep your eyes peeled at your favorite watering hole for a Boulevard KC only tap release. It's called Tripel Julep; Long Strange Tripel aged in bourbon barrels and infused with mint leaves.

Yep, Nelson Sauvin hops. Muscat grape juice added to the malt and fermented with champagne yeast. Very tasty and sessionable.
|
Sixpoint's "The Crisp"
a pilsner, but punchier...insanely drinkable, i wanted a keg of it |

I'm not sure if this has already been asked or not.
But do any of you all use Untappd? It's a pretty cool app that lets you post and follow friends to keep up with what one another is trying or drinking. I follow my local beer guy and some friends, it's a nice resource. |
I use Untappd, more or less to track what I've tried and what my friends are drinking.
|
I use untappd regularly - cool app, and a great way to track the beers I've had.
Drinking a Stone Espresso IRS tonight, and cheering on the Wild. Mighty tasty... |
I don't use it but maybe I'll get around to it one day. I'm drinking a Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye ATM. Not a bad beer. Definitely would buy again. I think it's in the $6-7 price point.
|
Martin City has Parabola on draft. Dangerous stuff.
We also hit Next Door Pizza on the way home and had some Tripel Julep. Nighty night. |
Phil, did you enjoy the Parabola?
|
Mmmm, just finished a Rogue Dad's Little Helper Black IPA. Nice hoppy finish after the chocolate malt start.

Had a tasting Friday night, then out with family on Sat night. Here's the tally:

I think that I've tried too many beers. That list is totally stacked, but I still found myself saying, "meh".
Jacobins is one of my favorite sours ever though. The Toppling Goliath stuff is interesting too. |

I'm loving what TG is doing - they're putting out some fantastic beers. Pseudo Sue and Golden Nugget, especially. I heard Assassin and Mornin' Delight are phenomenal, but haven't had a chance to try either yet... |
I've been trying to get an Iowa buddy to bring down some Naughty Temple....I don't know if he'll cave....

The Perfect Crime Hollow Point - very nice belgian quad I just poured. It's not incredibly complex but all the flavors I enjoy about a quality belgian are there.

This should definitely be on a list of beer to try before you die.
Pliny the Younger. -It's only available 1-2 months of the year. -Never sold in a pint, always half pours. -Never bottled -Triple IPA that's smoother than it's predecessor, Pliny the Elder I've had it 5 years in a row so far. Every time there's a huge line, and kegs always tap out after 45 minutes. The lines for this stuff are ridiculous. Waiting in line I'm always thinking it cant be worth it, and it wont live up to the hype. Normally it does. Here's a pic of one of the lines my friends tried to make it in at 10am, it was tapped out 40 mins later. http://s24.postimg.org/s3fcvuh6c/big_DL_1204.jpg http://s11.postimg.org/bpdnb2y3m/big_DL_1189.jpg I was able to get 1 8oz pour at my normal watering hole. (the pitcher is Pliny the Elder) We got there 3 hours early, only to find out we had to get in the huge line when they started pouring. We were lucky enough to cut someone. |

The ones I've seen come in 750ml bottles (like wine), are corked like champagne, and run anywhere from $8 to $15/bottle. I've had the Duchesse de Bourgogne and now the Rodenbach Grand Cru, both of which are in the Flanders red ale styles. Another I'm keeping an eye out for is the Monk's Cafe Flanders Red Ale. Liefman's Oud Bruin is a Flanders brown. Lambics are similar to the sours: Cantillon Grand Cru Bruocsella, Boon Oude Kreik, Cantillon Kriek, Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus, Cantillon St. Lamvinus, Hanssens Oud Kriek. Oud Gueze: Boon Oude Gueuze, Cantillon Gueze. |

I looked at totalwines website and they have quite a few! Those include Monk's Cafe, Duchesse de Bourgogne, Strubbe Flemish Red Ale and Lost Abbey Red Barn Ale just to name a few. Sounds like an interesting taste. Will be even more interesting to see if I like it! Thanks FMB. |
I would recommend going with the Flanders styles before moving to the sour lambics. The sour lambics can get REALLY sour, real palate scrapers. Rodenbach, Duchesse, Liefman's Goudenband, all great starters into the world of sour beers.

Happy American Craft Beer Week!

Saison Brett on draft at Next Door Pizza, FYI.

If you're a TREKIE fan and you love IRISH RED (I AM AND I DO), you'll want to get this.

what are people's favorite summer beers? something with a lower abv (<7%), and not a palate wrecker |

I second the 80 acre, great stuff for a hot day.

But no - I don't drink any alcohol, haven't for a really long time. |
Really like Shafly's Kolsch. I already like the style, and theirs is good. Only problem is that it's way too drinkable for the price. Very easy to knock back a sixer.

Farmhouse Ales were brewed for the diligent farmhands who drew the short straw and had to work the arduous harvest. Our brewmaster’s expression blends the spiciness of a Farmhouse Ale with the tartness of a Flanders Red for a remarkably refreshing finish. |
I think you might want to try a classic Flanders Red before you judge it. I get some tartness from 80 acre, but it's nothing like a Duchesse or a Rodenbach Grand Cru. I'd bet on it. Point being, just because they're trying to get some tartness in the finish doesn't mean that it's a sour beer.
The blue moon beer is technically a Saison/Farmhouse ale, and that style has a very different flavor profile than a Flanders Red. WAY different. |

In any case, nothing like the Flanders reds or browns I've had. |
Considering that this was announced in 2011, I would be surprised if it hasn't been posted somewhere around here. Regardless, this is the first I've heard about it and it is getting ready to debut, so here you go:
Hanson, that's right, the former Tiger Beat heartthrob band Hanson, is releasing a beer by the name Mmmhops Pale Ale. http://beerpulse.com/2013/05/hanson-...ow-exists-428/ |

Popped my first Love Child 3 last night. Loved that beer. I was going to send one to my brother in Montana in a swap for some huckleberry/jalapeno jelly I use to make a bbq sauce, but I don't think I can do it. They're mine, all mine.

Can anyone recommend a smartphone app that would tell you the hop profile of the beer I am drinking at the time.
Example: I am curious about what is in this delicious beer in my hand, and I open my app and type in Sierra Nevada, and Pale Ale. The app returns this information: Malts: Two row Pale, Caramel Yeast: Ale yeast Bittering Hops: Magnum, Perle Aroma Hops: Cascade ABV: 5.6 IPU: 38 I like to put a name on a particular flavor I am noticing. |

I managed to get a bottle of Terra Incognita from last year, when it was exclusive to the SAVOR event in D.C. It's not a blow-your-socks-off beer; its subtle. But I really enjoyed it.
