Allah, Akbaar....ya 'all. I just wished to inform my fellow Chiefs fans that at Synagogue last week, before the fellowship meal, one of my brothers heard an NFL rumor broadcast via his short-wave Al Queda radio set:

I just returned from a seance, where the apparition of Lamar Hunt appeared and he spoke these prophetic words:

His announcement will come Thursday or Friday at the latest. Clark and Scott are working out the finer points of his contract tonight, but the deal is sealed. Also, Clark informed Herm Edwards and his coaching staff that they will be released. All assistants can reapply through Scott. I only share this information because I'm no longer with the team and it's fun to share that a new day is dawning at Arrowhead. Scott Pioli will quickly move to clean out the front office and hire a new coach. The only info I have on the new coach is it will not be Kirk Ferentz from the Iowa Hawkeyes. Kirk coaches his son at Iowa and does not want to leave until his son graduates. Mike Shanahan has contacted Pioli, but I don't know any info beyond that. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> |
I heard Pioli was on vacation in the Mayan Riviera. Called the hotel, and spoke with the bellboy. Here's what he told me:

Interesting take on Pioli from the Boston Globe chat area: Update from someone inside the Chiefs organization! Submitted by Rocky Alden on January 7, 2009 - 6:13pm. Okay gang, as many of you know I still have friends at the highest level in the Chiefs organization and have this info to share with full confidence: Scott Pioli is the new GM. His announcement will come Thursday or Friday at the latest. Clark and Scott are working out the finer points of his contract tonight (money & control), but the deal is sealed. Also, Clark informed Herm Edwards and his coaching staff that they will be released. All assistants can reapply through Scott. I only share this information because I'm no longer with the team and it's fun to share that a new day is dawning at Arrowhead. After my morning glory, I watched the storm brewing in the bowl, and as the brown hurricane formed, fighting the downforce of the high water volume flush, there it was....The letter P Sesame Street, Letter of the Day....P P is for Pioli. |
From Teicher at kansascity.com for what its worth:
It appears the Chiefs are the only remaining suitor for the NFL’s most sought-after general manager candidate. But no hire has been made official, and speculation continues to churn. So where do the Chiefs stand in hiring a GM? Public knowledge of the Chiefs’ activity in their search is confined to a singular event: this week’s interview with New England vice president Scott Pioli. Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt and interim president Denny Thum may have conducted other interviews that escaped detection. Either way, there has been a drought of news, so naturally rumors filled the vacuum. Plenty of them. Here are just a handful: •Pioli came to Kansas City for his interview (he didn’t). •First a Tuesday and later a Wednesday news conference was scheduled to announce his hiring (none was scheduled). •The Chiefs have told coach Herm Edwards and his staff to quit working in preparation for Pioli’s arrival (they weren’t; Edwards and his assistants were in their offices working Thursday). •The Chiefs have agreed with Pioli on a contract to be their next general manager. It’s possible that last one is true, but if so, the Chiefs are free to make the announcement. It would make sense they are eager to show their new general manager to the world given the lack of positive news to come out of Arrowhead Stadium in the last couple of years. More instructive are the last public words from Hunt, who said last month that he would be thorough and perhaps interview several candidates. Plans can change. But it would be most unlike the 43-year-old Hunt to act in haste and during an interview fall in love with a candidate, even one with an impressive resume like Pioli, and decide to end the process then and there. If the Chiefs are interested in hiring Pioli, they lost their only competitor Thursday when the Cleveland Browns introduced Eric Mangini as their new head coach. Pioli also interviewed with Cleveland and, though the Browns’ general manager’s job remains vacant, it’s unlikely Pioli would be interested because he’d no longer be able to hire his own coach. Pioli would be welcome to return to the Patriots, where he’s been coach Bill Belichick’s main talent evaluator since 2000. As for Edwards and his staff, the interminable wait for a new general manager can’t possibly be helping their chances to return. But they spent this week reviewing video, evaluating players and writing reports that will await the new general manager and, perhaps, the next coaching staff. Interesting note in this John Clayton story.... :hmmm:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/print...magesPrint=off Friday, January 9, 2008 Finding a crack in Giants' foundation -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By John Clayton ESPN.com Entering the season, the debate for division superiority was between the NFC East and AFC South, but the decline of the Jaguars ended that talk. For the second consecutive season, no NFC East team had a losing record, and most division games were competitive and close. Sunday's divisional-round playoff game pits the East's two best teams in their third meeting this season, and it could spawn a Super Bowl team. The Eagles were the worst team in NFC East play, going 2-4 against division foes, but they beat the Giants 20-14 in Week 14 to keep their mad rush to the playoffs going. In the win, Brian Westbrook had 33 carries for 131 yards and Donovan McNabb re-established himself as the starting quarterback. For the Giants, the game didn't appear to be all that important. They had run away with the NFC East and were positioned to get home-field advantage during the playoffs. Still, that loss to the Eagles revealed some weaknesses. It was the first game after Plaxico Burress had been suspended for the season after his accidental shooting. As the Giants proved last season against the Cowboys, anything can happen in the playoffs when two NFC East teams meet. And who knows? One of these teams could end up being in the Super Bowl -- and winning. Here are 10 more things to watch for in this weekend's divisional round: 1. Power trip: The biggest theme in the divisional round is the emphasis on running games. Four of the top seven running teams are among the NFL's eight survivors. To go to the Super Bowl and win, a defense must be able to handle power running teams. The Giants are the model. They attack with 264-pound Brandon Jacobs early and throw in the fresh, fast legs of Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw to add an exclamation point. The Panthers attack with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. The Ravens average 37 rushing attempts per game and use an offensive lineman as a sixth blocker about a third of the time. The Titans drive defenses crazy with the speed of Chris Johnson plus the power and goal-line presence of LenDale White. Power running is back. 2. In Kansas City: Okay gang, as many of you know I still have friends at the highest level in the Chiefs organization and have this info to share with full confidence: Scott Pioli is the new GM. Mike Shanahan has contacted Pioli, but I don't know any info beyond that. ....................... 10. Analyzing the Bolts' passing game: It will be interesting to see whether the Steelers try to control the Chargers' passing attack by using a Cover 2 scheme and mixing in zone blitzes. When teams use a Cover 2 against the Chargers, as the Colts did in the first round, Rivers doesn't make many throws to wide receivers Chris Chambers and Vincent Jackson. Most of the passes go to Gates or to backs coming out of the backfield. Jackson is a big target who can make a big play. With Gates playing with a high ankle sprain, it will be hard for him to make a lot of large gains. The Steelers can try to box in the Chargers' passing attack by using a two-deep zone. John Clayton, a recipient of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's McCann Award for distinguished reporting, is a senior writer for ESPN.com. |
Sometimes I really hate this place.

I also caught on Profootball.com that the Chief's will be agressively pursuing Free Agents Hugh Douglas, Johnny Morton, Dan Williams, and Carlton Gray.
Or maybe it was Jack Harry on the evening news last night.... :hmmm: |
