That cat I was feeding for a year before I was able to finally catch her. She's settled in nicely for being born in the wild and growing up in front of a restaurant for almost two years. She's been in my home now for about 4 months.

Sasha is a pretty kitty. I had a black tomcat named Rocky who looked a lot like her. My kitty Ginger Cat passed a few weeks ago. We now only have one kitty, Meesh Meesh, and he's getting on in age too.

I had to make a difficult call this morning to the vet to schedule an appointment to have our schnauzer Chuey put down. He's become quite aggressive over the last year and a half and frequently attacks our other dog. He's also bitten my me, wife and our nephew. We are attributing it to senility. He's show other symptoms of that as well. As it is now, we cannot have family members over to our house because we do not trust him. And our other dog, Ecko, is so sweet she does not fight back when attacked. It's not fair to her to allow this to go on.

We are not doing this out of anger with his attacks. We have been debating this for over a year now and know that he is not the same dog that we've loved for 10+ years. I'm going to be a blubbering mess when we take him to the vet for the last time on Saturday. If you are so inclined, I'd appreciate some prayers for my wife and I.

Thanks for reading...

I'm pretty high this 5 yr old I've had since Feb. I call him OG because he's a gangster.

Dayze 03-21-2019 10:51 AM

sorry to hear about your pup Dartgod.

looks like a good dog. Sad when it's time to let them go, but I look at it as what I 'owe' them for being such a good dog. As much as it sucked when we had to put down our 14 yr old dogs in the same year, it was time. as much as I dreaded it and found every excuse in the book 'not' to....I realized I was being selfish. Not imply you are being selfish etc....just using my own personal example that helped me get through it from a mindset standpoint. If that makes sense.

it still sucked taking them in, but I think both were grateful. Hell, my lab, who use to just lay down in the car during rides her entire life, stuck her head out the window of the car (on the highway) on the entire way to the vet. I think she knew.

RIP Chuey.
you'll see him on the other side.

That is what is so difficult about this. Most of the time he's just fine, other than being an old dog and all the stuff that comes with that. But then he'll just snap and attack the other dog for no reason, vicious attacks too. He's gone after me, my brother-in-law and even KC Dan when he was staying at our house for the AFCCG.

Then last night when I got home and in my recliner, he jumps up and snuggles next to me as sweet as can be.

It still has to be done though, he's just to unpredictable and we just don't trust him anymore.

The one I was talking about wouldn't attack me or any other family member, but it would go all in on another dog for no reason.

I also had to put down one of my Dobermans last October and that really hit hard. Mya was 10 and seemed in good health until one day I woke up and she was having trouble breathing. I took her in and she was full of cancer. I had not expected to take her into the vet and not come home with her. I had to have her put down that day so she didn't suffer and didn't have time to mentally prepare for that one. I have to say, that was a very bad day.

Ouch. One thing I really like about Aussies once they are adults is that they have an off switch. They are ready to go do something fun in a heartbeat but are fine just chilling the rest of the time. You just have to make it through the first two years.

My boy Apollo passed a week ago today. I have been having a really rough week but, it is starting to get better. This guy was only 3.5 years old. He was my buddy. His brother is really going to miss him.

Went in and after an overnight stay and spending a chunk of change at Blue Pearl (OP), we left with a game plan of strict kennel rest for 3 weeks. They thought it was something in his back, maybe a disc issue. Dr. said he has seen this kind of thing heal on it's own. We were going to do that before speding nearly $3K for an MRI. Unfortunately, that wasn't the right way to go. Turns out it was an infection. Wish I would have taken him to the local vet hospital in Topeka first. Even though Blue Peal knew there was a slight possibility that it was an infection, they didn't bother to try antibiotics as well. And the Prednisone he prescribed is also known to weaken immune systems.

Ugh, sorry to hear that man...

Might as well post a few good pics in memory of my buddy.

He and his brother were two peas in a pod.

Ok, so I picked up Apollo's paw print yesterday. I decided to make a shadowbox in memory of him.

On a brighter note, we adopted a boxer. Her name is Emma.

when I had my border collie /aussie mix, I had him trained in like 2 days and he probably had maybe 3 accidents after that in 14 years.

I watched him like a hawk when he was a pup, and as soon as I saw the wheels start turning in his brain to go to the bathroom / squat, I gave an immediate "outside"! and scooped him up and took him outside. I didn't yell, just enough to shift his focus / stop his wheels turning for a second.

did the same with our lab puppy, though she took about a week, same results. seemed to work well.

also pay attention to when they drink; their bladders are tiny at that point, so if they go and drink a bunch of water, you can bet in about 15 minutes or so, they're gonna need to go. Same with food; watch them close after they eat. I also took him outside a lot even when I didn't catch his wheels turning; just so he got used to associating outside with the going to the bathroom.

Then, as soon as they finish doing what they're doing, LOTS of praise and lovin'.

Godspeed.

Agreed with Dayze. I also brought treats out with me to reward them for peeing or pooping outside.
