It was absolute dogshit early this morning, which seems to happen often. Not sure if that's when the attacks spike, or if it's just before Kyle and DaFace wake up and start applying band-aids.

75 members, 1280 guests.

Well, that's a lot better than 30k guests.

That would explain why it is fast right now.

Wonder how they managed to get the bots to be much (many?) fewer.

I can attest to the truthfulness of that post, it was terrible this morning

Then it suddenly cleared up somewhere around midday, it really seems like any fix our guys come up with is eventually figured out/overwhelmed

Makes me wonder if its just a matter of our old software not being able to handle new systems as BRC explained to me the other day, or if there is possibly something malicious behind it

htismaqe 03-18-2025 01:37 PM

I doubt it's malicious. Imagine these AI web crawlers are a horde of locusts just ingesting everything in their path. Our server just isn't built to withstand it.

Bearcat 03-18-2025 02:15 PM

What would you call a malicious attack that's just mildly annoying as opposed to doing something just as easy like taking down the entire site?

Mildy Malcious?

Paper Cut Gang?

Slightly Inconvenient Attackers?

Bills Mafia?

I don’t know much about this stuff but can’t you make it so you HAVE to login to access the site?

GloryDayz 03-18-2025 03:34 PM

I want to that DaFace and the entire Mod group for all they do here, it's not an easy job and it pays nothing.

In B4 KISS-ASS!!!

Problem is that guests can't see the forum AT ALL when guest access is off, and that includes Google's spider. If we leave it off for long, literally no one would ever find us. And while that's not the worst thing in the short term, guests see a lot of ads, and those pay the bills.

I've turned guests off for today because I don't have the time to dig into it at the moment, but eventually it needs to come back on.
