Clay, are you hearing Ferentz?

This.

If it happens, I'll be highly disappointed.

I haven't been on the Pioli bandwagon from the start.

Eric DeCosta........FTW.

I like Pioli, but the Ferentz hire would be a downer.

The Bad Guy 01-02-2009 11:12 PM

I'm willing to give Pioli the benefit of the doubt for 2 years with Ferentz if he does hire him.

My big concern is that Romeo will come with him and we will run a 3-4, which would be horrible for the talent we do have on defense.

Sure-Oz 01-02-2009 11:13 PM

What is nick hearing again? I must've missed that

Other than Dorsey and Tyler, who would it really be horrible for?

Our front seven is horrible running a 4-3, if there was ever a time to make the chance, it's now.

Not necessarily advocating it, but if a new coach came in and made the move, I'd support it.

I guess DJ could flourish because he'd get to be a rush backer. DeMorrio would move to one of the inside spots. I'm guessing Tamba would become the other outside backer with DJ.

I think Dorsey would be the one who was really neutralized. He would likely become the LDE. Turk would be the other.

I guess it wouldn't be terrible, and I'd be jacked as hell to have a defensive coordinator that could actually coach players.

They played a little bit of 4-3 before they won the first SB with McGinnest at DE, before they started drafting all the DLinemen. With Dorsey we might play a bit of both. The raiders tried it a few years ago and Sapp didn't look very good at DE.

Won't it be up to Ferentz to what kind of defense he wants to run? I don't know much about Ferentz, does he run a 3-4 now?

tk13 01-02-2009 11:35 PM

I'm pretty sure Iowa runs a 4-3. But I thought Ferentz was an offensive line coach, so a different D-coordinator might have a different idea. I really don't have a huge problem with Ferentz if Pioli is calling the shots. Everybody has wanted Pioli for eons and now people are going cold because he might hire Ferentz? He's probably not an exciting choice but I would say I like him over a lot of other college coaches.

But that's going to happen if we hire Pioli anyway... I don't think the Patriots always do the 'normal' thing to begin with. It's not we hire the guy and magic will start happening, the Patriots don't always do the flashy thing to begin with.
