I wanted him so badly but Gruden stayed with PG.

Sigh.

Can you imagine if we had (a)nother STAR DE

And especially the second half of games, when it is most important.

And also, nobody can dial up a blitz at a key moment like Spags. I mean it's like serious genius.

As far as I'm concerned, he can stay here with Andy until they both retire.

hello my friend

i will see you soon

Prediction, 2 weeks from now. J. Chase catches a TD pass and there will be half a dozen posts in the GDT how much Spags sucks.

Agreed. Amazing how much better our defense is with those two vs Hitchens and Neimann. I would try and lock them up as early as possible as they get more expensive every year, especially Bolton.

Shut down the Chargers in the second half. That Allen catch on 3rd and 18 was clear opi and Williams played him perfectly but got pushed off as the ball was coming down. Spags is a very good coach. Aside from Fangio and maybe Quinn, you won't find a better defensive coordinator in this league.

115 yards and only one big play, 7 points, and two turnovers. KC doesn’t win if the defense doesn’t step up in the second half.

I know he has been nails at making adjustments during 2nd half. My question is are we running base entire first half and shell the entire 2nd half?

Molitoth 11-22-2022 09:21 AM

Spags is such a refreshment. Remember before spags was here the lack of halftime adjustments?

One of the biggest things to me is that I can't predict blitzes now. It used to drive me crazy in the Gunther Cunningham days when a blitzer would run up to the line five seconds before the snap and then jump around staring at the quarterback the entire time. The quarterback would then throw it to some guy who moved into that vacated spot and I would be sad because everyone except Gunther knew what was going to happen.

In objective fairness, nobody lets quarterbacks off the hook at a key moment like Uh Oh Spagnolio. I mean it's like serious full reerun.

I don't know how or why it happens. Josh Allen rattled at his own goaline, lets him off the hook. Herbert on 3rd and 18 after getting wrecked by Gay, lets go easy here, go ahead and have a cigarette back there while you read the field. Zero blitz on 3rd n 27 while a guy sets the rookie receiving record on your ass all day.

Just inexplicable gaffes at the worst times.

Uh oh Spagnolio and Reverend Billy Graham are two people that can make a hundred thousand people all yell Jesus Christ simultaneously.

100%. I used to yell at the tv about it. Hated the fact that I not only knew when we were going to blitz every time, but knew exactly how we were going to do it just about every time.

Sutton wasn't any better. Always trying to fit square pegs in round holes, leaving talent on the shelf because of the above, predictable unimaginative play-calling of a 12-year-old . . .

Spags turned the defense into a resilient, aggressive, unpredictable, situationally proficient unit, even with wholesale turnover twice in just 4 years.

The man deserves more credit than what he gets from Chief Fan.

Couple interesting things in there.

1. It takes a whole half for Steve and his crew to figure shit out. That's why there's no adjustments until half. IMO, I'd lik to see that figured out much sooner, but that looks like that's not going to be the case. They play much better after half adjustments, so we just have to hope that the games don't get away from us in the first half, and we have a chance.

2. Put the lousy no pressure 3rd n 18 on his players. Thought the d line would get more pressure than it did (at least that's what I got out of it) and Josh shoukd have located the ball. Even though he knew there's a rocket arm back there that can make any throw.

Football is all about situations. You've harassed the guy with pressure all night. Bring pressure again, and the receivers likely don't have time to get 18 yards downfield. Instead, you choose to give him all day to make a throw, which leads your unit to giving up what is a back breaking score on 31 other nfl teams.

It was good to see the O pull it out, but we'd been in similar spots before this year where the back breaking score beat us because they intercepted the ball on our final series against Indy, and Buffalo.

So Patrick can't always pull your ass out of the fire. We have a coin flip o line. They might do their job, or Patrick could be under fire all day.

These are young guys, it's his job to help them out, and I'm sorry but no pressure on 3rd n 18 with an arm like Herbert has, you're just asking for him to smoke you. You'll never convince me that only rushing 4 was the right call there.

Pass the buck or whatever, I guess Jones should have taken up 3 guys instead of just the 2 all night right?
