My recollection was that the Big 8 really only wanted Texas and A&M. Politics got involved to bring in Baylor (thanks to Anne Richards) and Tech (some Senator got them in ).

I have no memory at all of the Big 8 trying to bring in the entire SWC. The SWC was crumbling and its members were looking everywhere. The Big 8 struck hard and had a home for the 2 most attractive options that would allow them to continue playing each other.

The douche is right. The Big 8 and SWC were talking about a full on merger of the 16 teams, but ABC said they would only pay a certain amount so 4 heads were eliminated from the pot.

Talking about the school and athletic program. You drop Texas into any other of the conferences and they are the major gorilla.

A&M had to essentially be bribed to stay out of the SEC and I thought Texas was fielding offers from the Pac 10.

Were there ever any active proposals to bring them all or was that just something that was spitballed? Like I said, my memory was that it took a hell of a lot of effort just to get Baylor and Tech included once they finally started making formal movements for inclusion.

I don't think so.

I think he's right, they'd be a major gorilla. But I don't see them pushing USC around in the PAC, nor do I see them dictating terms to Alabama or Florida in the SEC.

Oh they'd have huge influence, but I don't think it would be hegemonic, as it is in the Big 12.

They just said during the Cotton Bowl that Mizzou beat 4 ranked foes during its run to win the SEC East....Prison Bitch has assured us that Mizzou has not beaten any ranked SEC opponents....is PB's computer broken?

Pasta Little Brioni 01-03-2014 07:22 PM

Nationally televised prime time game....nice. Not seeing much difference between this and a fruit bowl.

Dude, they're trying to build up the game. Just be glad they didn't list any of them.

Why? They were all quality wins. Of course, being a KU fan, you do not really know what one of those looks like.

Fortunately, all we missed was a month or so of basketball that ultimately has no bearing whatsoever on how the season shakes out.

Well, I think finishing in the top 5 this season is a result I'll take.

After the game they said Mizzou has beaten five ranked teams this year. What is your excuse for that?

Saul Good 01-04-2014 12:06 AM

The first weekend of the tournament is the busiest time for vasectomies. There is a remarkable amount of symbolism there.

Saul Good 01-04-2014 12:08 AM

With that...I'm officially done talking shit on/about the Big 12 and its teams.

Good luck to you. It's been two years, and and we settled it on the field.

Eleazar 01-04-2014 12:15 AM

It's probably time to bury this re-alignment butthurt. The rivalry with Kansas is multiple years in the rearview mirror now. We are building something new and better. Why continue to revisit the past?

Because there is hope that one day cooler heads will prevail and this rivalry will be renewed. It was one of the best in all college sports and needs to come back.

No doubt. Some pivotal games this weekend.

We had a mini get together there in September to watch the Chiefs beat Dallas.

Dartgod was there - he's pretty godly and Carlota was nice enough to hook us up. I'd imagine she would make the next.

Missouri isn't relevant during college basketball season. Arky isn't relevant during either season.

I was confused by that statement too.

KU beats MU in football 50% of the time they play. In basketball obviously KU dominates so I am curious on why such a post would be written.

I actually am surprised to hear that Arkansas still plays sports. That's cute.

MIZZOU in case you were confused about that

Mizzou won the SEC-East, which Sagarin ranked higher than the big "12." Doesn't that suggest that Mizzou should have beaten Okie Lite? Wasn't that the expected outcome?

If you look really close, he rates teams individually too. To answer your other question no, his data had Okie by 1.5 which is where the spread ended up last I heard.

What? The computers were wrong you say? How can that be?

Mizzou only had a better record against better opponents than Okie Light and won their division in the toughest conference in the country...guess the computers must have miscalculated that.

Well, since my Google works I can look that up for you. His data expected Alabama to win by 14.3. The Vegas line opened at 14.5 and was pushed up to 16.5. So both Sagarin + the oddsmakers + the public were all incorrect thinking Alabama was better.

*Still has 1 bowl left.

The SEC has, once again, clinched the best record in non conference play for the 2013-14 season.

SEC 54-11. 83.1%
PAC 37-9. 80.4%
B1G 39-16. 70.9%
Big 12 25-11. 69.4%
ACC 45-21. 68.2%

The outcome of tonight's game will not impact the standings in terms of out of conference winning percentages, but a Florida State win would probably bump them up a spot in terms of perception.

Mangino hired as ISU oc. Good hire, IMO.

He will rape KU next fall

We have Mangino as OC, the Nevada OC when they invented the pistol and had 3 1,000 rushers in one season then went to Arkansas as OL coach under Petrino as our OL coach, and the old Washington State OC who had them at #9 in passing offense as our WR coach.

Shits about to get real. We have the young talent that got some experience this year.

Raping KU isn't exactly a tall task.

True, but I'm sure he is looking forward to his revenge

After a season or two watch him land at k state ROFL

Well, good for Mangino. There's no question he's a good coach, maybe that whole episode was the reality check he needed to become even better than he was.

TribalElder 01-06-2014 07:46 PM

The school (KU) complained he was too hard on the players didn't they?

Prison Bitch 01-06-2014 07:49 PM

In part. They also claimed he was a loose cannon in public (kicked out of his sons HS football game at Free State) and belligerent to other AD and university employees. This may or may not be true, just that it was cited.
