Supposed to warm up to 65 here tomorrow, sounds like a good day to get out

threebag 03-03-2017 11:28 PM

I might go cast net a few of my ponds depending on the wind. Hate ****ing wind. Time to start attracting the bait.

threebag 03-03-2017 11:29 PM

Plus I bought a newer boat and have already sold my old one.

Got out for a little bit late morning, nothing was biting but it was nice to get outside anyway... the lake is turning over, you could really smell the water today

mr. tegu 03-04-2017 10:38 PM

I bought a new fish finder for my kayak. A pretty nice Garmin one with a 5 inch screen. I can't wait to try it out.

That's from the fires last week but the park itself is in tack and Manooka park is now open even to my surprise.

I have to tell someone about this and the fishing thread seems like the place.

A bought a used, not running 74' Johnson 9 1/2 hp outboard with an open title. After finding out the previous owner rebuilt the carb. in an effort to fix the no run problem I started with the carb. Long story short, he didn't have all the screws tightened and had the idle adjustment completely wrong. Tightening the screws and setting the idle adjustment right I now have a fine running motor.
The total cost for the motor itself and my repairs....$10

I'd kill for a freaking boat sometimes. Especially right now with the fish in deeper waters to stay warm. I about bought a boat once but then found out I'd have to pay property tax annually for the thing and it needed much work on it so I didn't figure it was worth the asking amount. I should have gotten the boat.

Nice. Perfect time to get out on the water.

I usually have the opposite happen to me. I'll get something thinking I'll fix if for about $20 and it turns out to be a huge POS not worth having. :D

Same here. I know the guy who owned this one and he is not mech. inclined at all. I figured worse case I only lost $10 if it was trashed.

Looks like the same kind, well, one set up like that, I used at a lodge I went to in Quebec . Back trolling for walleye was a blast.

Your weight is tied to the end of the line and the hook is about a foot above that.. You do snag trees and such though. Cruise slowly up or down the river, let the line get tight and then pull with a big sweeping motion. Let the line get tight and pull again. Sometimes for hours.

If everything goes right, all four of us will have our two fish Tuesday and Wednesday and today will be a get smashed day.

How do you prepare the fish to cook so it doesn't taste funky?

If you have had paddlestick that tasted fishy, the red meat wasn't apparently totally cut off of the white meat. The red meat is very fishy. However I have noticed if it has been frozen it can get fishy as well.

I usually just cube it up and put fish breading on it and fry it. Captain Jacks fish breading from KC is outstanding. You can also bake it or grill it. I've also boiled it in 7-up and dipped it in clarified butter - poor man's lobstah.

Especially now that you only get to keep two as possession, when I get home I trim it up and soak it in salt water for a few hours. Then I cook up what I want to eat and give the rest away because of the freezing/fishy factor.

I've never seen water level this high here so I think the fish are just staying warm in deeper waters so it may be a couple weeks yet before shore fishing gets good. But I did hear a splash sounded like a lunker lol.

Oh man, I love nights like that on the water. Going to make myself go fishing more this year.
I'd be throwing a top water, maybe a black hula popper, while I am waiting on the other poles to get some action.

Night fishing is my forte. I love it. I switched to nights at work so I thought it be easier but work is a drag lol. I work 6 days rotation and end up working twelve hour shifts ****ing exhausting. I had to get out here. Nothing beats this. I decided also make myself go fishing every chance I get.

Ha. Kind of a combination. I love using shimp it's perfect on a hook so much less snags. Also tonight liver and crawfish I got a bag of frozen red ones. Also never tried it but hush puppies because I think they would make good dough bait. Had to figure out how to keep them falling apart.

I'm stoked first fish of the year.

Rasputin 04-04-2017 02:48 AM

He liked the crawdad but I was lucky cuz I got him to shore and he let go but I had a grip on his body last time that happened a walleye got away from me.

Catching fish never gets old.

Cool, caught my first in the middle of Feb. One bait I'm going to try this year is hotdogs soaked in anise. I've heard from a couple people that it works pretty good.
Take a pack of hotdogs, cut them in to thumb sized chunks. Soak them in the anise in a sealed container for a couple days. Leave them outside in the sun so they get nice and ripe.

Have fun man.

I came home pretty exhausted but exhilarated non the less just to go out and catch something. I planned another night but I didn't plan on being so cold so long and after retrieving my line out of the lake it was starting to rain and I figured the next thing I'm going catch is pneumonia.

That water was freaking cold. It's still going be a couple weeks before they start active biting anything.

Not happy I came home I already miss the lake but i do need to recoup and later I will have a nice fish to cook to look forward to.

**** yeah its good to get out fishing **** winter!

Take a pack of hotdogs, cut them in to thumb sized chunks. Soak them in the anise in a sealed container for a couple days. Leave them outside in the sun so they get nice and ripe.

Have fun man.

We use hot dogs soaked in cherry jello powder. leave it out three days, they eat it like it was going out of style.

Thanks for sharing a tip. I try anything to catch a fish.

Any of you guys do any sucker grabbing? We're getting all geared up and ready to head to our cabin on Norfork lake in northern Arkansas to do a little.

I hear that an actual constipated turd on a hook will have them biting like crazy. Its like a double potency stinkbait.

Tried to get out this morning to the Clinton outlet for some crappie.

I was able to fish for about 30 minutes in peace and quiet before i was swarmed by bucket people. How do people deal with these assholes? I honestly don't think they speak English. I had 3 people fishing on top of me in about a 25 foot area.

For those of you who don't know, bucket people are those Asian people who show up 20 at a time, with kikkoman soy sauce 5 gallon buckets, have no concept of personal space and keep every fish they catch no matter what. Creel limits be damned.

****, i hate them so much.

I typically fish the Kansas river, which doesn't have a lot of shore access and can be a difficult spot with all the sunken debris and heavy current. I normally don't deal with crowds, bucket people, or lack of room down there.

But i was just killing time before work today and wanted to catch some crappie/white bass. The only time you can have room down there is getting up before the Sun!

I would be surprised if these people even had fishing licenses, seeing as how ignorant they are to creel and length limits, snagging, number of lures you can tie on your line ect ect.

Tried it before... baited a known catfish hole with anise and didn't catch shit.
However, one day we cleaned the sunfish we had caught earlier that day in that catfish hole. Came back at night and couldn't lay our poles down. I think we used hotdogs as bait That was YEARS ago. At least 20.
