I'm not sure if Nebraska goes to sleep at night and dreams about basketball if they could come up with a performance like that.

They could have put a Nebraska jersey on a ****ing mermaid and it would have tailflipped the ball in from beyond the arc. While suffocating.

Bearcat 02-17-2010 08:36 PM

It's the first time since the final game of '06-07 that Nebraska has scored 85+ in a conference game (and they've finished with <50 five times in conference games since then).

Look at it from NU's perspective. You shoot 56% from the floor, a mind-boggling 14-21 (67%) from 3, hold your own on the boards somehow......and lose? How are you ever going to win a game if you can't win this one?

Classic SLTH game by Doc. Tie it up and then quickly foul. After sinking a bunch of 3's, they can't get a shot off and turn it over. ROFL might as well call him Jim Wooldridge.

ROYC75 02-17-2010 11:39 PM

Agreed. It's always tough to figure out how a team will respond after being railed like NU was in their last game. I figured they'd either do what they did and respond well or get blown out again...

At this point, I'm just glad we won the game. Crowd wasn't into the game at all and for the 2nd straight game the team seemed to act the same way. Frank said in the postgame that they've put themselves in the position to play for something special and need to start playing like it matters in these lesser games (obviously I'm paraphrasing). I hope he gets them straightened out, because we can't do this in Norman/Lubbock/...Lawrence...and expect to win.

Speaking of Norman/OU, what's the deal with Warren? I heard all day about how he's got mono, but he played for 30 minutes tonight. There's no way he's got mono and plays 30 minutes and scores 19 points in a Big 12 basketball game if he's got mono....

From what I hear on the Animal Sports Talk here in OKC is that the team is lacking in just about everything. Capel is having a hard time keeping the wheels off of it. Some say Warren is sick, others say he is pouting and throwing a fit, because the team sucks.. Others say he is crying because he feels now he should of went to KU...

Warren is a headcase from what I understand. Capel has his hands full..

I was sitting 13 rows behind the NUBB bench. It was absolutely classic. KSU played terrible D and many of those threes were uncontested. Why they inisisted on doubling high and leaving shooters open on the wing I'll never understand.

And to come down and tie it and then lose it in that fashion? Absolute Wooly-esque. Doc should be renamed Pox Sadler. He's terrible.

PS: Thanks for making all the FT's down the stretch KSU guys.

mikeyis4dcats. 02-18-2010 01:51 PM

KSU is asking the Board of Regents to amend the FY 2010 Capital Projects List to include a $20 million dollar basketball practice/operations facility AND . . . $2.1 million dollars in new restrooms for the upper level of OBFS. 2 Practice courts, all new offices for both men and women, dressing rooms, sports medicine/hydrotherapy, lounges etc. etc. If they spend the entirety of the $20 million on this facility it will be one of the nicest facilities of its kind in the country.

Please note that this doesn't ALWAYS mean it will happen in the FY that they amend, but in most cases it does happen.

Not really. NU hit shots that any D-I player should hit. This game doesn't change that they are terrible and Pox Sadler is really Martyocre. KSU played about 8 minutes of solid defense and won this game.

Pox Sadler should be ashamed of how he killed his team.

It's a great site. There are some very thorough posters on the site and they tend to attract some of the reporters that cover the Cats for local rags.

For instance, you recall our recent conversations on SLTH's? And how many posters here (especially KU fans) tend to fall into the trap of thinking those hires are good? (Sadler, BDZ, McDermott, Wooly).

One of the guys on that site dug up a great piece on the thinking of schools who decide not to "win at all costs". It was from "Black Shoe Diaries", a blog about Penn State athletics. In particular was some great information on why PSU has been a doormat. It's very close to the thinking that led to KSU basketball being a doormat for 20 years.

Check it out.

WilliamTheIrish 02-19-2010 08:42 PM

Reading this quote you could substitute NU, CU, KSU (of the last 20 years) and ISU with Pen State and it would still ring true. The only difference is that each of the Big XII teams pays there Bball coach MORE than PSU.

Quote:

Essentially, Penn State is playing it safe with its basketball program. They throw pennies at it. It returns nickels. Profit! Wins and losses are immaterial in the broader picture, and that's why it's ultimately useless to get angry with Ed DeChellis and his players. They're making the best (give or take an eleven game losing streak) of a bad situation. Penn State basketball is essentially the Pittsburgh Pirates of Big Ten basketball. Fans go through the same ritual every season -- irrational hope spawned by a theory something along the lines of, "well, if everything breaks right and a few teams catch the bubonic plague, we could be on the NCAA bubble."

Winning basketball hasn't been a priority at Penn State for decades, if ever. Looking at the last 40 years, you could count Penn State's NCAA tournament apperances on one hand -- and still have two fingers with nothing to do. Coaches are permitted to chug along for as long as they run a clean, relatively congenial ship. Say what you want about the way this season has unfolded, but the team hasn't quit yet, which prompted me to drop this comment in the "Buzzer Beaten" recap thread after the Minnesota game:

he tweaked it late in the game against TT. Be nice if he is indeed out. I'm still perplexed by the whole Tiny Gallon thing...
