This was a bit shocking at first, but it's the right move. We need to start creating cap space to keep guys like Ford, Peters, Hill, and Jones.

Also, as somebody else already mentioned, Alex is going to put up Alex #'s regardless of who his weapons are.

Escobar will help make up for this loss. Alex always looks for the TE's and Escobar could be a decent player this year.

Cap expert Joel Corry indicated Maclin's release may have been almost entirely salary-cap related. The Chiefs' only other high-salary, cut-able veteran was Tamba Hali, but his salary is guaranteed. "They had the most cap commitments of anyone in the league for 2018 prior to the (Maclin) move," Corry said. "They’re going to have to do something else next year.
