It's dead, but somebody just walked away with hundreds of millions of dollars.

I'm not going to pretend to be a boxing expert, but I didn't buy the event because it turned out exactly like I thought. Mayweather is an all-world defensive boxer... at his age I think he's just going to take the air out of anyone who can legitimately challenge him.

ghak99 05-02-2015 11:17 PM

For those of you who bought it... Do you think it was worth it?

If this was a 30-round fight I think Mayweather would have eventually KO'd Pac Man. You could tell in the last 2 rounds after Pacquiao punched himself out against Mayweather's forearms, that Money was starting to headhunt and really do some damage.

idk why kind of fighter can beat Mayweather.. the whole "running" away is just sidemouth stuff. Mayweather is there for the taking for anyone skilled enough to connect... unfortunately.. no one is skilled enough to connect.

Yes.

As a fight, no. The fight was terrible. However, this transcended boxing's decaying corpse into a massive social event, and it was worth $89 to me to say I watched the fight as it happened and I was able to see the Philippine dream die.

don king ruined boxing

I guess.
I know I'm leaving out some greats, but in the 80s-early 90s, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield--these guys were well-known to even casual sports fans. Even George Foreman was interesting, and there were some decent contenders. Now? The only people who even know the champions are die-hard fans.

Pacquiao is skilled enough... his game plan was just garbage.

It was bad but he just usnt isn't good enough to get the job done. Floyd is going to retire 49-0.

i think Pacq pre-getting ko'd would have made this much more closer and made Mayweather get out of his comfort zone. I honestly did not see Floyd get out of his pocket much.

His trainer looks like a damn fool

Must be nice to not actually do anything but run and counter.....and then win.

None I specifically recall, I just know sometimes I'll read after the fact that so-and-so won on PPV and it grossed $$$$.

Back in the old days (for me)...I remember big championship fights on HBO. That's not free, but still more accessible to the masses than paying out up to $100 for what could be a 10-minute event.

cosmo20002 05-02-2015 11:33 PM

People who aren't really into boxing are almost always going to be disappointed in these hyped fights. There are very few awesome punchfests like Hagler-Hearns. Tyson was hugely popular in his day, but I remember people bitching when he'd kick some guy's ass in 3 rounds (or less). Well, that's kinda what he's supposed to do. It ain't like the Rocky movies.

jd1020 05-02-2015 11:38 PM

You shouldnt be disappointed in a "fight of the century."

The sport is just boring. Any time Mayweather was in trouble in that fight he just went into a shell and pretty much covered up any and all legal targets for Pacquiao to strike and the rest of the time he would just grab him to get out of a corner.

Where's my pillow and blanket?
