It's actually less deserved than CoMo's thing for Kaun, and that was absolutely pathetic... might have to put a fellow Jayhawk on iggy for the first time. :(

I'm kinda like sedated in the fact that I was too busy celebrating and don't remember too much of DV's comments after that. My question is are you taking these comments out of context? Would he have said the same thing about Kansas had the Tarheels won? You know, did he go on to talk glowingly of the Jayhawks after consoling the UNC fans?

ok,ok ... so my post was a bit of a bait post. muh bad. :evil:

I don't remember DV calling that game. I was in shock at the ass-whipping KU was laying on UNC... IIRC it was 42-19 at one point.

I do remember him talking about feeling bad for UNC's players... I do not recall him saying they were more deserving to play for the NC.

Of course I kinda block out DV anyway; the guy is 100% hyperbole. His schtick gets old fast.

Kaun wasn't very good. He played well about a handful of games while at Kansas, but wasn't really a force the way Aldrich is. Though he wasn't a focal point by any means since there was so much talent on those teams. He was just a small role player more than anything. Though he shined during the Davidson game. That was crucial in winning the NC. But for as big as Kaun was, he wasn't that great of a rebounder/shot blocker, plus he had horrible footwork.

One thing my wife and kids and I bring up once in awhile for a good laugh is the press conference with the Jayhawk players after that game. A reporter in the back of the room asked a question and 3 KU players immediately turned toward the reporter. Meanwhile, after an additional second or two, Cole Aldrich turned, very slow and methodically, toward the reporter. It was one of the strangest and funniest damn things I have ever seen from a post game press conference.

I think I was probably somewhat drunk by the second half. :D

If you're going to compare him to one of the best bigs KU has ever had, then no, Kaun isn't going to come out very good. But he was a very quality role player, and he currently makes millions starting for the best professional basketball team in Russia.
