I guess so.

But they simply don't factor into my calculus at all. As you are well aware - they just never have.

It's why I don't do mocks past the 5th round. It's why I rarely complain about picks made/not made past the 5th round.

They're just dart throws and to use O.City's analogy, you're not much closer to the board than you would be just using those same trainging camp slots to bring in a couple more UDFAs you liked. Or street free agents who signed futures deals for that matter.

I mean yeah, I'm fairly comfortable saying 'they don't matter' and rounding down here...

They can for sure use them to go after guys who they think might end up as UDFA and ensure that they get them. Still won’t amount to a ton of shit though.

I wouldn’t have as much of a problem with saying 7th round picks don’t matter, but this started because I thought he was saying that day 3 picks don’t matter.

There's your RT for the first half (?) of the season.

27 years old and coming off his best season.

Absolutely no issue with this move, and it wasn’t all that expensive.

Been saying it for a couple months now - Wylie is a PERFECT candidate for the 4-year veterans exemption.

Under the 4-year qualifying player benefit, the Chiefs could offer Wylie a 1 year deal for $2.42 million and slightly less than half of that would count against the cap.

If he signed a deal with about $2.5 million in guarantees, I'm guessing they gave him the max signing bonus allowed by the 4-year benefit (I think it's about $1.3 million) and the veterans salary minimum for his experience level.

And viola! You hit $2.5 million in guarantees. With a cap hit about half that.

Then it's a 2 year deal with an assload of fake money and dead cap in years 3 and 4.

Trying to hit it hard before Allen's deal really spikes and Diggs ages out of his prime.

Can't say that I blame them. The rest of the AFC sees where the Chiefs are.

As some brokedick fraud would say "There's blood in the water..."

But there can only be one team even MAKE it to the SB. So there's gonna be some REAL disappointed teams in the AFC over the next 2-3 years. Because they can't all win this little arms race of theirs.

I’m completely fine with everybody in the AFC loading up on old expensive pass rushers.

We can just as easily come out on top next year, and have the opportunity to be better off long term.

The 1st round pick who never amounted to shit? Super scary.

Starting to wonder. Everyone else is getting better while we're getting worse.

Next year might finally be the year we get toppled hard unless Veach pulls his head out of his ass soon.

He certainly has a plan, there's no guarantee any of us are going to like it though.

We're going to regret that AFC Championship game collapse for a LONG time.

Even playing with Brady surrounded by a shit ton of talent to take attention away.

smithandrew051 03-16-2022 04:51 PM

I know it seems like nothing is happening, but we probably just need to sit tight.

At this time last year, we had no LT, Blythe at Center, and LDT at RG. Things can change a lot.

I find it very hard to believe someone as aggressive as Veach is just striking out left and right.

I guess not. I thought Zadarius Smith would be the guy but I guess not.

You’re underestimating the fact that a lot of us have heard of him

The Franchise 03-16-2022 04:52 PM

Silver lining right now is that our entire offensive line is coming back.

We’re not the only team that is going to have to deal with all of these pass rushers.

Striking out with who?

Most of the players the Chiefs have rumored interest in such as Landry and Robinson are still available.

Wylie gets to go against Jones, Crosby, Gregory and Chubb. We’re ****ed

Which also graded out as one of the best OLs in the league with 2 rookie starters and Thuney with a broken hand.

The Broncos better improve that offensive line or Wilson could be dead by Week 8. Same thing with Carr and the Raiders.

That’s kind of my point. We see other AFC teams signing a lot of big names. I don’t think Veach is just missing out. We clearly weren’t interested in most of them.

Very true.

But if his plan is to collect C/D level FA's like Clay collects Star Wars action figures, the odds of it being successful are slim.

I'm convinced he's going to shock us with a move or two - honestly he kind of has to at this point. Is there anyone left out there - specifically at DL - that makes us *better*?

Right now, I kinda feel like the only position we can *absolutely* get better at through FA is WR. Hopefully he pulls a rabbit out of his hat in a trade using some 2023 draft capital.

The Franchise 03-16-2022 04:56 PM

Outside of the Chiefs winning the championship next year....the next best feeling would be watching the Bills make it to the Super Bowl and losing. As long as it isn't to the Bucs....I'll be happy.

There are plenty of DL out there that make us better. That's more because of the talent on our DL versus what's out there but still.

Clowney, Key, Barnett, Flowers are just a few. There are more.

If the Chiefs were that concerned with deals coming off the table right now, I don’t think we’d see them signing Wylie and Henne, which are luxury/finish the roster contracts. They’d be waiting on those. IMO.

I love seeing the Bills overpay, though.

The Bills HAD to do something to push them over the edge. Allen's cap hit is going to double to over $40 million starting next season.
