Saw the new Cobain movie; Montage of Heck. Loved it! Then it was over. Just over.

Dane - You will like how they did the soundtrack and arrangements.

I've had it on the DVR since 5/4/2015. I'm looking forward to watching it when time permits.

Cool. I'm interested in your take on the arrangements and how they fit the given period of his life. I thought they were brilliant.

I just checked out the music department's credits and they're outstanding. Jeff Danna (awesome composer), John Whynot (awesome mixer) and Howard Parr, excellent music supervisor.

I'm even more excited to see it now.

I didn't even look. They didn't **** around. Films are useless without a good soundtrack. IMO.

Denzel's Equalizer was entertaining.

I didn't really understand the end, though. He goes on Craigslist back pages to find people to help? Weird.

Side note: Denzel is looking pretty old these days.

Watched "The Dirties" the other day. Interesting movie. Its another found footage type of movie but from what o recall, its not as shaky as most other FF movies. Liked the subject matter and the authenticity of it.

San Andreas was exactly what you'd expect it to be. Think 2012 but only on the West Coast.

People in my theater clapped at the end. I'm not sure if they were clapping for an entertaining movie or Alexandra Doodooarino's tits. Those things are simply superb. Rep to the man that can link me to those noodz.

Cloud Atlas was OK. Not particularly entertaining but interesting nonetheless. Kind of unique, as well.

I've heard Argo was great but I couldn't finish it. I tried watching it three different times and never got beyond 20 minutes before it lost my attention.

Fury was really good. It didn't grip me until about 45 minutes in but from there I really liked it. For some reason, I loved when the SS soldier found the kid hiding under the tank and just kept going. Awesome ****ing scene. I know German armies get a bad wrap from that time period, and it's mostly well deserved, but I'm sure they weren't all horrible human beings.

You've never had that moment when growing up, when you heard music for the first time that was so much different from any other music you had ever came across in your life? I remember that moment a few times in 5-6th grade. One of the coolest feelings you'll ever have. Music is amazing.

lewdog 06-09-2015 09:28 PM

I also grew up in bum**** Montana so access to music was limited. I was a member of the BMG music catalog (remember those?) where you could order like 4-5 CDs for like $20. I'd read their short reviews and order groups I had never heard of. I didn't have internet, cable TV and I didn't listen to the radio. I was just taking orders of CDs by buying their CDs based on genre and comparisons listed in that small writeup. My parents listened to a lot of music from the 60's-70's, but finding something like Punk Rock and Grunge Rock just blew my small little mind. I had never heard something close to that. Nirvana in 5th grade was like that.

Could be. People and events change my life. Sometimes music is a coping mechanism but it hasn't ever been the catalyst for change.

Easy 6 06-10-2015 07:50 PM

The Equalizer was everything Man On Fire was but more, much better movie all around.

Denzel has these badass older guy characters down cold, a great two hours of bloodletting.

Fury - some of the most brutal battle scenes since Saving Private Ryans first 15 minutes and plenty of solid acting along the way... another two hours I gladly gave.

ThaVirus 06-18-2015 11:59 PM

Contagion from, I believe, 2011 was worth a watch. It was a nice take on a viral outbreak that didn't involve zombies. It also had some big names.

Lucy was just meh.

Prisoners was intense. Gylenhal has been tits lately (I just watched Nightcrawler the other day). I'm guessing his character in Prisoners had Tourette's or something but I like when actors change their mannerisms for roles. You'll rarely ever see guys doing that. It's just Denzel playing a cop or Denzel playing a train conductor or Leo as a bum ass artist or Leo with a shoddy South African accent. Jackman also did well.

Yep. I think it was this thread that I called Fury the best war movie since SPR. Just a great all around movie.

-King- 06-19-2015 07:23 AM

Watched Time Lapse. Decent first two acts. The 3rd act is kind of dumb though as they try to explain the plot. 5/10.

I've watched a lot of movies the past couple years and I've come to realize how hard writing an ending is. There have been a lot of decent to really good movies that ended up being ruined by a shitty ending.

DeepPurple 06-23-2015 04:00 PM

I watched 'Whiplash' last night on, I believe it was HBO. I can see why JK Simmons won the Academy Award for best supporting actor. It's not an easy movie to watch, but you can't turn it off. If you have a good surround sound system, turn it up. If you're a fan of Lee Ermey in your face drill sgt films, then you'll love this movie.

No Good Deed was pretty good. Idris Elba did a good job playing a sociopath.

Also, Taraji Henson could get allllllllll this dick.

Rausch 06-24-2015 02:26 AM

Just finished Blue Ruin.

Pretty damned good. It's a revenge flick but a revenge flick if the average person actually tried this $#it. Not Rambo or Ah-nold.

There were a few moments where I thought that's really dumb, why would you do that? It's not bad storytelling - he's just really bad at being a bad guy. Imagine a revenge story where the main character is a homeless man with no clue about guns or really even how to fight.

The guy that plays the main character does a great job and the whole no-name cast is solid.

I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10.

So...I am getting my parents a little gag gift next month. Going to print out some photoshops I'm creating and frame them.

1. My youngest sister and mother into a scene from Aliens as Ripley and Newt.

2. My dad and I as Indiana Jones and Short Round.

3. My dad/mother and my older sister as ?????

I'm coming up blank on the third one. The best idea I've had is dad as Dr. Grant and sis as Lex, covering her mouth in the T-Rex/Jeep scene from Jurassic Park, but the only high-resolution photo I can find, there's a lot of rain and stuff covering the faces.

I'm also thinking of doing one with dad as Gandalf and my baby niece as one of the hobbits, but again...not finding a lot of great photos.

Honestly would like to do one with my mother again, instead.

So I'm open to ideas. Either a completely different idea or a photo I haven't found. Needs to be at least 1500x2000 or so for decent print quality at 8x10.
