Is Greinke really trying? haven't been able to watch yet. I remember his Cy Young year he had a rough spring. I remember him giving an interview and saying he was only throwing fastball one game, then changeup another, etc. It was simply practice to him. He didn't care if he was getting knocked all over because he threw the same pitch over and over. Just focused on throwing it the way he wanted.

kcjayhawks5 03-25-2013 07:35 PM

Why isn't this on MLBN? Sorry if already been discussed

That's pretty accurate of what's going on right now. He's throwing mostly fastballs and hitting 89. It looks like he's throwing BP.

Hudler says that Gordon can be a MVP canidate

Starting pitchers in the preseason are there to get getting their fastball up to par, and pretty much nothing more.

Hudler is a yorkie on crack.

SPchief 03-25-2013 07:39 PM

Idk, Greinke also has only started 2 games (with another in a minor league game) So one would assume that he would be trying to get his stuff together

Cephalic Trauma 03-25-2013 07:39 PM

Pitched escobar hard though hitting 94

He's not going to flash much of anything. Nor is he going to work to set up and thus get hitters out.

I have no doubt that he's trying to feel strong and healthy on the mound, little more than this.

DeezNutz 03-25-2013 07:46 PM

Love fest on air with Rex and DM. The latter better hope this staff produces because he's damn near doing a victory lap.

gblowfish 03-25-2013 07:48 PM

Hud is a major, major suck up.
And Moose has a ball go through the wickets.... nice.

Demonpenz 03-25-2013 07:49 PM

and Ray Knight comes around to score!

gblowfish 03-25-2013 07:50 PM

If whacking Bob Davis means we're going to get more Hud, I may have to kill my TV.

Demonpenz 03-25-2013 07:50 PM

Great to not have Tony Pena Jr and Guillen and Dejesus and Kelly Stinnett

Cephalic Trauma 03-25-2013 07:51 PM

It's fun to be constantly cynical before opening day.

I'd suggest finding a different hobby.

Shogun 03-25-2013 07:51 PM

I love Rex Hudler

gblowfish 03-25-2013 07:51 PM

Royals are on channel 48, Goodfellahs on channel 49. Every time the Royals have a TV timeout, somebody gets whacked over on channel 49!

KevB 03-25-2013 07:52 PM

Davis' stuff looks good. Change up wasn't dialed in, but curve looked good.

gblowfish 03-25-2013 07:54 PM

Billy looks about 10 lbs heavier. Too many biscuits?

DeezNutz 03-25-2013 07:55 PM

Butler's fat ass was born to hit.

gblowfish 03-25-2013 07:55 PM

That was a very leisurely single.

KevB 03-25-2013 07:55 PM

Wouldn't say BB came in particularly trim, but it doesn't really matter I guess.

gblowfish 03-25-2013 07:58 PM

Salvy beat that throw...

gblowfish 03-25-2013 08:06 PM

I like that Wade Davis is wearing #22. That was Dennis Leonard's number. Hope is is tough minded like Dennis.

Demonpenz 03-25-2013 08:09 PM

Hosmers swing is not simple, but he does generate power.

Demonpenz 03-25-2013 08:11 PM

Hosmer swing is alittle bit of John Olerood. Maybe he should wear a helmet out on the field.

duncan_idaho 03-25-2013 08:18 PM

Not much you can take from watching guys hit against Zack Greinke in spring, but I was encouraged by Hosmer's approach. Ball seemed to be jumping a little bit more off his bat when he was making contact, too.

gblowfish 03-25-2013 08:18 PM

Zack's going back to his locker to count his money.

Shogun 03-25-2013 08:20 PM

gblowfish 03-25-2013 08:23 PM

Man, Wade Davis is an erupting volcano of emotion. It's too bad the broadcast crew interrupted him while he was busy planning next Saturday evenings Spades and Yahtzee competition with his grandparents and their friends.

Man, the Royals open the season in 6 days in Chicago, where its currently 30 degrees.

It's built in for weather purposes, typically

Glad to see Grienke get roughed up-lol 147 million- Yikes.

They tie for the Best record in spring they have ever had- I hope it carries over.

Moose and Gordon are knocking the cover off the ball.

WhawhaWhat 03-26-2013 08:48 AM

Bruce Chen got pulled from his start today. Sugar Ray Marimon get the start against the Mariners instead. More to come says Bob Dutton.

Do they pull pitchers from spring training when they have been traded? Seems that would just be a regular season thing.

Well, unfortunately, if we traded him alone we probably won't get much in return. The best case would be that he's a throw in with a bunch of minor leaguers for Stanton!!! At worst he's just injured, which is still ok because it paves the way for Mendoza to be our #5, which is what I prefer anyway. All that being said...COME ON STANTON!!!

Would probably depend on the wishes of the other team. For example, if its the rangers they might just want him to walk across the parking lot and pitch for them. Or the royals might want to make sure he doesn't get freakishly injured in today's game before they can finalize the trade.

alnorth 03-26-2013 09:09 AM

According to Dutton, its beginning to look like Chen has been beaten by Mendoza for #5, but that is not yet confirmed. Chen has been listed as available from the bullpen.

Too bad. I was hoping for a trade. He's served us well but his time is up.

alnorth 03-26-2013 09:14 AM

If it really turns out that the Royals have selected Mendoza over Hoch and Chen, then the Royals should be praised.

You don't normally reward people for doing obvious things, but we've got a dumb dog who needs to be praised for not crapping on the floor.

If he's not starting, then he ought to get used to coming out of the bullpen. If Mendoza's not ready to go today, then let some minor league starter get in some work.

WhawhaWhat 03-26-2013 09:21 AM

Confirmed by the Royals, Mendoza is starter #5. Chen in the bullpen.
