Is Greinke really trying? haven't been able to watch yet. I remember his Cy Young year he had a rough spring. I remember him giving an interview and saying he was only throwing fastball one game, then changeup another, etc. It was simply practice to him. He didn't care if he was getting knocked all over because he threw the same pitch over and over. Just focused on throwing it the way he wanted.

That's pretty accurate of what's going on right now. He's throwing mostly fastballs and hitting 89. It looks like he's throwing BP.

Starting pitchers in the preseason are there to get getting their fastball up to par, and pretty much nothing more.

Idk, Greinke also has only started 2 games (with another in a minor league game) So one would assume that he would be trying to get his stuff together

Not much you can take from watching guys hit against Zack Greinke in spring, but I was encouraged by Hosmer's approach. Ball seemed to be jumping a little bit more off his bat when he was making contact, too.

Traded or injury?

Do they pull pitchers from spring training when they have been traded? Seems that would just be a regular season thing.

Well, unfortunately, if we traded him alone we probably won't get much in return. The best case would be that he's a throw in with a bunch of minor leaguers for Stanton!!! At worst he's just injured, which is still ok because it paves the way for Mendoza to be our #5, which is what I prefer anyway. All that being said...COME ON STANTON!!!

Would probably depend on the wishes of the other team. For example, if its the rangers they might just want him to walk across the parking lot and pitch for them. Or the royals might want to make sure he doesn't get freakishly injured in today's game before they can finalize the trade.

According to Dutton, its beginning to look like Chen has been beaten by Mendoza for #5, but that is not yet confirmed. Chen has been listed as available from the bullpen.

Too bad. I was hoping for a trade. He's served us well but his time is up.

If it really turns out that the Royals have selected Mendoza over Hoch and Chen, then the Royals should be praised.
