Few things have ever broke my heart like that. There’s a feeling of ‘What could I have done? Why didn’t I see this possibility and do something about it?’... got an invisible fence coming in this week sometime which will be used for my boy and the new girl that we soon bring in.

But no matter how safe they will be, I’ll always have that void left because she is gone. I can’t explain how special she was. She loved people and had so many unique traits.

Toonces always stayed right by the front of my place. Never wandering to far. I still expect to see him lying by the door when I leave. Every day. Still look around the neighborhood for him too. It's hard. One day, poof, gone.

We have four cats. None of them has ever left the house except to go to the vet. As a result, they tend to associate outside with getting poked and prodded, and don't even try to get out anymore.

IMO, cats should be indoor pets - there are just too many things out there than can kill them. Average life span for indoor only cats is double that of indoor/outdoor cats.

Orange cats are tough to beat! Although I don’t mind any type.

I’m in a similar phase myself right now. I keep waiting for her to pop out of every little hiding spot or play area she had. I’d do about anything for it to happen again.

More than happy to take your word on it, but man that totally looks like a boxers head/face... not that it matters as long as she's a good girl, and you love her

So even though we are in the city limits we’ve a really great sized property. So I haven’t skimped on pets for the wife. (She’s got over 200 plants to talk to as well. )

We’ve got 4 cats, 2 dogs, 3 chooks, and a bird (not pictured)

The lil white dog is the only one that’s not a rescue.

Is there a free range chicken thread?

I think atm the chooks are our favourites. They eat the hell out of corn, obviously, but grapes my gawd they would eat twice their weight given the chance.

Today has been the first day all year where we've had really nice weather. I snuck out of work an hour early and came home and went for a walk with Dog. We decided to go down to the river and see how much they've dropped it. We've had so much rain and snow lately that they've dropped it so much that the local ferry can't run. It's supposed to drop another 10 feet or so so we may even be able to see the waterfalls that lost when they dammed the river.

Here's Dog resting in the shade. Of course, she wouldn't look at me. The island behind her isn't usually there.

A view towards the bridges downriver. All of that exposed rock is normally underwater.

So, I have a dog and a cat. I have had a ton of different animals and finally got down to those two. I swore not to add any more even when these two pass away. No replacement pets...

I had to go in to work very late this weekend. Around 10 PM. I was driving down an unlit road with very large orchards on each side. Luckily I was driving slowly as what looked like a white and tan furball ran out onto the road and parked its little furry ass right in front of my car. I stopped and looked around. Not a house in sight, and it was a tiny kitten. I had to get going as I was on my way to work, so...I drove back home quickly and we have another ****ing cat now. Don't judge me. You didn't look into its eyes when I picked it up. Here's a picture of the little shithead and I swear it's the cutest God damned kitten I ever saw:

Kitten Update: I've been down the same road in the day a few times and it looks like a house was recently demolished right where the kitten came from. I wonder if Momma Cat was using an abandoned house for shelter and had to flee? Or maybe the kitten was? The new kitten is doing fine. Seriously, just about the most lovable little thing with the greatest personality. It bonded with every person in my household within hours.

Yup. Story of my life. If I go without a cat for a few months, one just shows up and claims me.

Naptown Chief 06-20-2018 09:02 PM

I'd love to have another cat. Growing up I always had (at least) one and did even into my early twenties. My concern now is not my dogs harming them.. Both have been around, and actually love, my sister's cats. I have a 700 sq ft house. I don't have anywhere I could put a litter box that the dogs couldn't get into. When I finally buy a home I am definitely getting another orange tabby. Feisty little bastards but so outgoing

so i googled chook feeders, homemade.

i liked this one:

http://cdn.goodshomedesign.com/wp-co...n-Feeder-1.jpg

and built it. even though they admitted they only needed a couple of inches of two inch pipe instead of three feet, the feeder...

in five minutes, the chicken feed was all over the ground. i should sue these people for false advertising.

so i thought, it's close, but i can do better. you see not only do i have a need to keep seed off the ground, and dry outside, but need to keep away from the birds, and as well not have to refeed every three days.

so i did this (i still plan to tweek the designs, but when refined somewhat am actually going to approach a local produce supply shop here to sell):

attached image for demonstration.

now for the feeder in action:

My condolences. Our 15 year old has been throwing up her food quite a bit the last few days. My wife has her at the vet right now doing blood work and xrays to see what the deal is. Our 14 year old schnauzer has a host of medical problems as well. I'm afraid the time is getting nearer for both of them.

So Ecko's blood work and xrays came out ok. She still has food in her stomach though and not sure why it's not moving through her. No obvious blockages. We may just have to start feeding her smaller portions.

Chuey is a different story. He's got a mild case of pancreatitis, enlarged heart and liver issues. He's on 7 different meds now. Lately his breathing has become labored. He'll be at rest for an hour or more and panting like he just came in from the heat. We won't have him much longer I'm afraid.

Thanks man, dogs are great, but losing one is going to suck. I think the worst part will be my wife. She'll be an absolute wreck.

My wife is taking it the hardest because it was her first dog as an adult and we had to put her down a day before her birthday. She's a wreck right now.

He actually has a fantastic personality. I have passed ownership to my son who lives with me (Ninja is still 'my' cat) and I think he wants to call it 'Grey' for some reason. Oh, FFS, they've given it an Instagram account.

Had to put down this guy last night. Made it 13 years, 9.5 with me after being rescued from an abuse/neglect situation. RIP

Ugh, sorry to hear it man. It always breaks my heart to hear that anybody, especially of CP family, has to do that, even if it's the merciful thing to do.

GloryDayz 09-07-2018 01:19 PM

Oh, and don't wait long to rescue another, waiting a year was a very stupid thing I did. Look now....

Dayze 09-07-2018 03:04 PM

sorry to hear dude.
I'm sure your little guy was grateful for his time with you.

so, we've got six 'house pets'. four cats two dogs. it's nothing for me to wake up in the middle of the night, to either walk full on into a dog poo, or a slimy hairball.

and i have gotten good at avoiding them too. (sometimes our hardwood floor grain knots trick me into thinking there is a spew at 3 am in the dark.)

anyways, i digress.

tonight i go downstairs to let the dogs out. its dark, with some ambient light.

oh, and btw: i dont clean anything up when it comes to excrement from the animals.

i see what i think is a large dog shit.

so i come upstairs, yell at the youngest boy to put the rubber gloves on, get the paper towels, don't throw it in the bin cause it will stink, mode.

so he goes downstairs after said vermin, and i thought (because we keep our washed laundry down there), what if it was a sock in the dark.... so i scream... it may not be a turd afterall....it could be a sock....

he yell's 'it's a ****ing goddamned sock, if you had turned the light on, you would have known'

ROFLROFLROFL

(even my wife stated: you spew a day before an animal shits in the house, but yet you didn't smell a thing)

and this all happened in less than two minutes, it's not like we debated and drew straws as to whom would clean it up ROFL

Last night my cat pal Neighbor Cat passed away. We had him for 18 years and he was a couple of years old when we adopted him. I'm heartbroken. He was just a garden variety little gray tabby cat, but he had the best disposition, and Mrs. B and I loved him very much. He was the coolest, most laid back friendly cat I've ever owned. He never met a human he didn't like. He passed in his sleep last night laying next to my wife. On one hand I'm so sad words don't do it justice. On the other hand, I'm relieved I didn't have to take him up to the vet to have him euthanized. That was the plan for this morning, and I was dreading it. Neighbor was able to go out on his own terms in the place he loved most. I'll miss him desperately, he was one of my very best friends.
