Cowboys give David Irving the second-round tender

The Cowboys couldn’t afford to lose another key defensive piece, so they spent a little more money.

According to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys used the second-round tender on restricted free agent defensive tackle David Irving.

That will pay him $2.914 million this year, but he seems worth it. Since he was undrafted, the Cowboys couldn’t risk using the low tender on him, which would have allowed another team to sign him away without compensation.

Despite playing just eight games because of injury and suspension, he recorded seven sacks last season.

The Cowboys are losing linebacker Anthony Hitchens to the Chiefs, but used the franchise tag to retain defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence.

Yeah, I'd send them our 54

Couch-Potato 03-14-2018 08:44 AM

Bring in Richardson and Gaines please!

Probably not worth it but imagine if we snatched Irving and Hitchens from the girls.

The Franchise 03-14-2018 08:46 AM

Giants signing Nate Solder.

Most Cowboys fans were hoping to sign Sammy Watkins too!! Letting Dez Go.

That would be awesome, Watkins, Hitchens and Irving...

Give me Jaire Alexander in the draft and I don't care if we sign another CB or not. That kid is going to be a star.

How does this work? could we make it contingent on him signing a deal? I'd give up a 2nd rounder for a proven player at only 24 years old still.

Chief Northman 03-14-2018 08:49 AM

Keith Reaser is also under contract. No doubt the secondary needs upgrading....
I think Sorenson gets axed. Berry, McQuay, Murray left at safety. Terrel was ok before he got hurt. Maybe they bring him back too.

No 1st round pick. Pipe dream.

The Franchise 03-14-2018 08:51 AM

2nd round should be either CB or S.

Could we give them next years Rams second rounder?

RunKC 03-14-2018 08:59 AM

I’m just saying guys...I think Veach is going to use that Rams 2nd rd pick (and maybe more) to move up somewhere. Either from 54 to the 30-35 range or from 78 or 87 to go back into rd 2.

I don’t see the use in waiting to use that pick next year. You’re window starts now and you have 3 years. You’re waiting 1 of those years already and then maybe another year to develop.

Just use it now

I would do it myself. Besides, that Rams pick is likely to be in the back 1/3 of the round, and the Chiefs’ pick might be too.

Richardson spotted at the Best Buy in Olathe, the Chiefs team plane is in Chicago, a real estate agent friend was just contacted by EJ Gaines, Veach was just seen leaving Jerry Jones' office.

Remember the days when the Chiefs did nothing to get better so people would make this shit up and it would get 5000 replies? Good times
