We haven't heard any more about the Chiefs, and Pioli, but we also haven't heard anything about Pioli, and any other team, and since he is considered to be the top man league wide, that may be a good thing.

I'm not saying that he's better than Sapp or anything, I'm just trying to say that hopes were too high for him, and he met realistic expectations easily.

The realistic expectation was that he'd be part of a unit that set an NFL record low number of sacks, more points allowed than under the GROB years and 5 ypc rushing against KC? Those were Trevor Laws expectations, not Dorseys.

My guess is that Hunt gave Pioli time to consider an offer, and all indications are that Pioli's going to accept, but he hasn't formally done so yet. But yeah, I don't understand what they could be negotiating at this point.

Sapp

Dorsey

<table class="tablehead" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tbody><tr class="stathead" bgcolor="#c60024"><td colspan="20">Defense Stats</td></tr> <tr class="colhead" align="right"><td width="8%" align="left">YEAR</td><td width="8%" align="left">TEAM</td> <td>G</td> <td>TOT</td> <td>SOLO</td> <td>AST</td> <td>PD</td> <td>SACK</td> <td>FF</td> <td>REC</td> <td>INT</td> <td>YDS</td> <td>TD</td> </tr> <tr class="oddrow" align="right"><td align="left">2008</td><td align="left">KAN</td><td>16</td> <td>46</td> <td>32</td> <td>14</td> <td>1</td> <td>1.0</td> <td>1</td> <td>0</td> <td>0</td> <td>0</td> <td>0</td></tr></tbody></table>

Tell me again that those years aren't similar. If Sapp didn't bust, then Dorsey didn't bust.

Again, you have to remember our defense was on the field alot. Of course guys are gonna pileup numbers and get tackles? And dorsey is no exception. But don't let those stats blind you?

You gotta shift your focus and attention more towards the other things that he is supposed to do. Like for example, Is he able to contain rushes well enough? Is he able to close and fill in gaps well enough causing RBs to change directions when they run? And to freeup the LB's to make play in the running game. Is he explosive and quick enough at the LOS in passing situations where he can penetrate his way into the backfield and create pressure on the QB forcing him to make a bad throw? Is he strong enough to the point where he can overpower guards, or centers to get that good push at the LOS and prevent the QB from stepping up? Those are a few examples. Whats his technique like?

To look and compare his stats with Warren Sapp and say that they're similar and just because Sapp didn't bust and you say so won't Dorsey is a really not a fair way of judging him.

As a matter of fact, I don't think stats are a good way of evaluating DT play period.

We're not hiring "Johnny The Janitor" here folks, we're hiring the biggest name in the business and it's gonna' take some time.

I still believe any forthcoming press conference will include a new Head Coach as well. No reason to piece-meal it, just hit 'em with the Big Bang all at once.*

*Just like he did with Carl.

Stats are pretty much worthless for DTs, stop using to make a case for Dorsey. Dorsey struggled this year and was disappointing, that doesn't mean he was a bust, but it is something worthy of concern.

This is not the like appointing the secretary of state.... or supreme court justice... there are no hearings... this is freaking football team's general manager. I understand that it is sensitive, but obviously there is some hold up.

You're just putting the entire blame of our defensive line sucking onto Dorsey's shoulders. You don't give him any credit for playing well considering his shitty circumstances.

OK, that's fine. Then basically no fan is actually qualified at determining if someone is a bust then. I watch the games. I don't watch every single player on every single play so I can evaulate him. I work with what I have available to me. And that's the same as what's available to most of us fans.

hahaha, I know. I really wish we had information about Pioli to talk about instead of arguing whether or not Dorsey is a bust (and he's not).

Especially since Pioli could be using a lot of teams to drive up his value with the Pats. Not just one team.

And I believe that hold-up is the acquisition of the new Head Coach.
