There is not a 1st baseman around that wouldnt step on 1st before throwing the ball in that situation. He was damn near standing on 1st when he caught the ball.

A better throw to 2nd gets the Cards out of the inning. The only thing to question would be him choosing to throw to 2nd afterwards and not look at home.

Adams had a terrible inning tonight. It was an absolutely boneheaded play that ended up costing the team two runs and a potential victory.
