Worthy isn't the same stop and start waterbug, he can't juke and retain speed quite like Reek... but I contend that he's a more fluid athlete, and a MUCH better route runner and natural hands guy who can pluck a ball more often than bodying it

We all still love what Reek brought, but I'm seeing an even higher ceiling with Worthy

Jesus Christ. A guy who’s played one NFL game is going to be better than Tyreek. You’re as excitable as a tween girl at a Taylor Swift concert.

He'll get injured too easily because he's smöl.

These are the same teams that like to run their quarterbacks 10-15 times per game.

Small, fast guys aren't supposed to do well in the NFL.

They either
1) Rely too heavily on their physical talent and don't work on being a true NFL receiver.

or

2) Are injury prone because they'll get lit up by NFL defenders. Rodney Harrison was scoffing at the thought of Worthy doing well because of his size.

With Tank Dell, Xavier Worthy, Jaylen Waddle, and DeVonta Smith all having success in recent years, this narrative is tired and old.

It helps now that you can’t blast WRs over the middle. The game has changed enough for the smaller ones to have some success.

While bigger WRs like Mike Williams getting injured rolling out of bed.

In the old days, somebody like Lester Hayes or Kevin Ross would demolish Worthy.

But that's not how the game is played anymore.

And nobody's better than Andy Reid at creating a free release for a WR.

There is no evidence being bigger equals less injury prone. It may even be the opposite. Calvin Johnson...big WR outta the league. Juju...bigger WR...always hurt. Sammy Watkins was about avg...very injury prone.

The positions that fly around the most are usually smaller so there are more violent hits. There is absolutely no reason a 170 lb guy will get injured more than a 230 lbs guy.

pugsnotdrugs19 09-29-2024 08:28 PM

Kinda forgot in the moment that he got interfered with.

Kid is legit as **** at tracking the deep ball.

Pasta Little Brioni 09-29-2024 08:29 PM

Stud

mnchiefsguy 09-29-2024 11:34 PM

Kid did good today.

Gonna need him to grow up in this offense a little faster than we wanted...but he seems up to the task.....throw the kid the rock and lets see what happens.

Bump 09-29-2024 11:54 PM

He's basically going to have to do what Rice did last year, he did today. It took Rice a half a season to really get going, hopefully Worthy does the same and I don't see why he wont

dlphg9 09-30-2024 12:05 AM

Worthy led the WRs in snap count today. It seemed like he was out a lot to me though, but I guess I was just missing him.

The kid can run the entire route tree. It's time to force feed him the ball and get him 10+ targets a game.

ThyKingdomCome15 09-30-2024 12:11 AM

-Biggest play of the game.
-Closed the game.

Worthy and Kareem wrecked the Chargers today.

He's got the juice. Between him and the eventual Pacheco/Hunt 1-2 punch, wbf!!!

Hammock Parties 09-30-2024 12:17 AM

The Chiefs are going to go back to their 2022 offense, with a better RB, more experienced OL and a way better deep threat.

The key will be finding enough completions between the last remnants of JuJu's knee, Justin Watson, Mecole Hardman and Noah Gray to recreate 2022 JuJu (78 rec) in the aggregate.

Since those players themselves had around 50 catches in 2022 that's gonna be a tall order.

We are going to need to make a trade. Unless Jody Fortson has something we haven't seen before.

TheGuardian 09-30-2024 12:18 AM

Yeah his biggest play was the closer. He's gonna need to run the whole tree now.

I'm so sad RR is out. :(

fadeaway 09-30-2024 05:37 AM

While the TD was exactly what we wanted to see when drafting him, the more important part of his performance was two important catches on third downs with one closing the game.

Deep bombs are great but we've seen Hardman and even Watson make those. I can't remember the last time any WR not name Rice in this team had two key third down completions.

This skill cannot be overstated. This alone is enough to make a real difference.

Sassy Squatch 09-30-2024 06:07 AM

Being forced to fast track his development may not be the worst thing. Already showing incredible promise as a deep threat and was happy to see him get involved on a couple crucial 3rd down conversions.

PHOG 09-30-2024 07:43 AM

The deep TD completion notwithstanding, the 2 3rd down catches were extremely welcome from him. More to come!

Yup.

You could see it in college. It was similar to watching Rice and his body control.

Rice demonstrated NFL elite body control in college. You didn't know how everything would translate but that specific trait leapt off the screen for me.

Worthy's ball tracking skills were the same. If nothing else, you KNEW the kid had NFL elite ball tracking ability.

GeorgeZimZam 09-30-2024 08:23 AM

OMG—best viewed and heard on mobile device with headphones. The (road!) Chiefs Kingdom roar is a delightful sound as the play develops and hits pay dirt.

It's funny that the announcers in the last two (road) games have had to comment on the effect the crowd noise was having on the opposing offense. Chiefs kingdom is ****ing traveling. (and growing)

LA doesn't give a shit about football. Such a shame too, Sofi looks like a great stadium. But LA will only care about the Lakers, and nothing else.

Lzen 09-30-2024 09:48 AM

He's still a work in progress, obviously, but he's coming along nicely. He still needs to work on recognizing the hot read. There was one play in the first half (if memory serves) that if he turned around quickly, he would have had a first down, easily, if not a huge gain. I think Mahomes might have had to eat that one because nobody else recognized it, either. Kelce might have stayed in to block on that one.

BlackOp 09-30-2024 10:00 AM

Worthy hit 21.49 MPH...what's crazy is Henry hit 21.29 on that 89 yard TD run...he's like 80 pounds heavier/30 years old..

Dunerdr 09-30-2024 10:13 AM

He’s been severely underutilized, but I didn’t want to see his load increased like this.

What Derrick Henry is doing is pretty ****ing insane. I thought for sure after he got injured in 2021. He's led the league in rush attempts 4/5 years and would have in 2021 if he hadn't gotten hurt. How often do guys get that many carries and continue being the best RB in the league in there 9th year at 30 (almost 31) years old?

Well no, it's about the shittiest way it could have happened. I wanted it to increase because Skyy Moore never saw the field again.

dlphg9 09-30-2024 10:43 AM

Worthy had 45/62 snaps (73%)
Watson had 44/62 snaps (69%)
Juju had 32/62 snaps (52%)
Moore had 13/62 snaps (21%)
Hardman had 10/62 snaps (16%)

I'd really like to see Hardman taking at least half of Moore's snaps. Moore does absolutely nothing and I know they're not all just run plays because I saw him run a couple of routes. Moore is more than likely the worst WR on the entire roster including the practice squad. Hell I'd rather have Toney than him.

The guys getting smaller and better in pass coverage has helped his longevity, he's getting hit by 230lb LBs and 200lb safeties who are basically corner sized. 20 years ago he'd have been getting hit by LB's that were 250+ and safeties who were headhunting.

Hammock Parties 10-03-2024 04:22 PM

Tyreek Hill first 4 games:
14 off. touches, 61 total yards, 2 TD

Xavier Worthy first 4 games:
14 off. touches, 193 total yards, 3 TD

This is accurate, football is only here to give dad's in LA something to take their sons to when their favorite team comes to town. Lakers and Dodgers get all the love.

Dodger games are terrifying. People talk about getting beat up in the Raiders parking lot, you'll get shanked by the local gangs if you wear visitor jerseys to a Dodger game.

18 off. touches, 221 total yards, 4 TD

at this rate he's gonna have like 12 TDs

might have had 5 tonight if Patrick had seen him on the deep cross

ThyKingdomCome15 10-07-2024 11:21 PM

Patrick hasn't even scratched the surface in getting in sync with this kid. We saw this with Rice last year too.

Second half off the seasons defense will be in shambles. We have NOT played our best football.
