BREAKING NEWS Tim Grunhard is a sexist pig:
"We were playing down in Houston and getting killed. Dave Kreig was throwing interceptions all over the place. I always prided myself in getting downfield and chasing the guy [who intercepted the pass]. I'm chasing one guy about 30 yards, and he runs out of bounds right in front of the Houston cheerleaders. I think to myself, "I can cop a feel on one of these cheerleaders right now." So I ran through them and grabbed a cheerleader's boob. That's the kind of stuff that goes through your mind while you're on the field." -- Tim Grunhard, former Chiefs center, 810 |
It's like a trainwreck and I can't pull my eyes away.

NO PRESS CONFERENCES SCHEDULED BY CHIEFS
Posted by Mike Florio on January 8, 2009, 3:46 p.m. EST As the Scott Pioli rumors/speculation continue in Kansas City, we’re told that none of the various media outlets working the story have bothered to ask a simple question of the team. Are any press conferences scheduled? We’re also told that no press conferences are scheduled, which undercuts the ever-expanding suggestion that a deal is close to done, and that an announcement is close to imminent. |
610Sports in Kansas City reports that the Chiefs have offered Patriots VP of Player Personnel Scott Pioli their GM position.
However, the sides have yet to agree on control. Owner Clark Hunt prefers to hire a money man to handle the finance side while Pioli keys on personnel, which Hunt presumably feels is his strong suit. If Pioli wants power over both responsibilities, he may just stay in New England. Hunt also wants Pioli to keep Herm Edwards as coach. We're guessing Pioli would have none of that. |

Posnanski he's not. |

Posnanski's been writing for SI and Whitlock for AOL and now Fox Sports. But the KC Star Sports section getting national acclaim? They don't break any stories of nationwide interest (i.e. the SF Chronicles and the Balco scandal), they don't cover high-profile teams like the Lakers, Dodgers, Mets, Giants or Yankees (let alone the Cubs or Red Sox) and their beat writers (like Teicher) flat-out suck. |

Other than JoPo, the STL-PD blows the Star out of the water when it comes to writing. Rick Hummel is in the Baseball HOF, and Bernie Miklasz and Bryan Burwell is as good as it gets for a small market fish-wrap. Jim Thomas is one of the highest regarded beat writers in the NFL. He makes Teicher look like a 5th grade essay writer to win a contest for free Monster Truck tickets. |

But he's NOT the sports section. He's an occasional columnist who's doing less and less work for the Star. He's a great writer. |
Quote:
Of course Posnanski he is not. He is a beat writer. Quote:
"Sports Daily won top-10 honors for its Sunday sections and special sections. The Star also led all big-circulation newspapers in 2006 with seven top-10 finishes in the contest’s writing categories." I don't really give that much of a shit about the Star but it is funny to hear people bitch and moan about the beat writing. They are dependent on the Chiefs organization. Who isn't all that information friendly. So which way do CPers prefer to slam them because they will be able to either way. Either they pass on what they can confirm from the organization or they could go on unnamed sources and rumors that may or may not pan out because that is the nature of the process. But what do I know THEY ARE THE WORSTEST IN THE HISTORY OF WRITING!!! |
Quote:
In any case, papers are dying everywhere, the Star hasn't cornered the market on that. Just the way of things. |

And he's not a very good one. |

I 100% know the guy makes up stuff. He made up stuff to ME PERSONALLY. Why should I believe he's any different now? |

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!
This thread is like climbing Everest. I read 12 pages to get to 54, then the ****er is at 58, now it will be at 60 by the time I post this, and the worst part is its like some weird universe where every post is repeated every 6 pages, really it is. Its like scaling Everest and being 100 feet from the peak, but a cloud bank blocks your view, as you climb through it you find yourself halfway up the ****ing mountain. Will somebody at the peak throw a large rock at me from up there? This shit is getting reeruned :( Im grouchy and want a new GM right NAO! |

But I just don't see how the Star is nationally recognized when they don't break any stories and more to the point, the teams they cover certainly aren't newsworthy on a national scale. I like both Whitlock and Posnanski's columns and always have. But they aren't "journalists" per se, they editorialize and comment, which is far different than actual sports reporting. And yes, JoPo's writing for SI has been great. |

Is this some strange Twilight Zone episode? We are forever stuck here, waiting for the most important hire for the Chiefs in the last 20+ years, and it will never come, but all signs will point toward 'yes'. Is it ground hogs day, but in chiefs colors? |

"Dillon his way to KC" He tried to convince Marty McDonald and I that this was happening. He said that Dillon was en route to KC. Nevermind the fact that Dick Vermeil said repeatedly he wasn't interested in Corey Dillon, or the fact that Dillon did not fit the offense he was trying to run. It was a completely bullshit story. Athan has been full of shit for as long as he's been publishing stories on the internet. |
