Times are hard. I'm drinking jim beam

phisherman 10-27-2019 10:21 PM

Laphroaig Cardeias Quarter Cask for me. Not exactly slumming it but I'm a little tired of bourbon and rye currently.

O.city 10-31-2019 01:44 PM

Came across a bottle of Blantons at the local liquor store so picked that up.

Gonna crack it while throwing candy at trick or treaters tonight.

KCUnited 10-31-2019 02:05 PM

Got this email notification from Instacart yesterday. These algorithms are good. Not quite tempting enough at that price, even though it is snowing out right now.

Was alerted to a place who allegedly had scored a case of Weller Antique. Got there and it was gone. Spotted a bottle of Elmer T. Lee behind the counter.

Rang up $180. Laughed and walked out.

Went to my local Honey Hole and picked up a bottle of McKenna 10, Old Ezra 7 Barrel Strength and Elijah Craig Barrel Proof for a total of $150.

Giant Octopodes 10-31-2019 07:41 PM

Got a bottle of Bearcat today, it's delightful. Very smooth, with flavors of Espresso and Aromatic Bitters to round out a relatively unremarkable (but good) bourbon. Overall one of the better bourbons I've ever had because it's like a prebuilt cocktail, and it's delicious, and cheap at under $40 for the bottle. Definitely would recommend it. Plus the bottle looks nice.

This right here is how it’s done. 3 great bottles better than secondary priced ETL.

I scored a Weller Antique in Dallas last week, but can't find something like a Stagg Jr or Blanton's for under $100.

So you're saying it's crap? 40%, check. Flavored bourbon, check. Yep, sounds like Fireball or Skrewball.

I kid, I kid. I'm not trying to get anyone riled up but I don't understand flavored bourbon/whiskey.

Not sure if this is available in all areas but recently found at Costco here among other places. I am hearing good things, especially the Cask Strength 46.

Miles 11-08-2019 10:20 PM

I bought Heaven Hill bottled in bond 7 year earlier today but haven’t tried it. Apparently a revival of what used to be an ultra bargain and only sold in KY. Now sold in a few more states as a relaunch 7 year versus prior 6 year but price went from $15 to $40.

Must be nice being able to buy liquor at Costco. I have some makers cask and not sure how I feel about it even though it’s well reviewed. Haven’t tried the 46 but also hear good things and curious of feedback once you try it.

Titty Meat 11-08-2019 10:55 PM

Been a tough week really shouldnt drink so I'm cutting myself off after this 3rd buffalo trace

Indian Chief 11-08-2019 11:14 PM

JMO, but I didn't care for the 46, especially at the price it goes for around here. I'd take the standard Maker's Mark over it any time.

So do you collect bottles in addition to bottles you buy to drink or is your collection a working collection that has to be replenished as you drink it? Forgive me if this is territory already covered.

I buy to drink. But many buy to collect and drink. Since the secondary bourbon market is so crazy, many buy and sell a bit later for profit. Those guys are chumps though.

I have a nice collection which is mainly a product of me not drinking a ton. They last quite a long time with many bottles open at once.

If you're in the southwest part of the country or see these around, they're harder to find and not just chocolate (more so candy bar/nougat than just chocolate), but Bottle Logic Study Break or Fate King Size Candy Bar Stout would be my top choices. Also southwest, Belching Beaver Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout.

Xocoveza is an excellent choice (and it's year round here :D )... and another that comes to mind has also been suggested, Sam Smith Organic Chocolate.

Southern Tier's dessert beers are all excellent... Choklate, Choklate Orange, and they now have a Chocolate Milkshake Stout.

Epic Big Bad Baptist Chocolate Rapture... haven't tried it, but it'll get opened sooner than later and I'm sure it's great as well.

I'm partial to Yeti, too... Great Divide Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti, if it's still around.

Hmm, guess not, their website says it's only released in October... I bought it at least a few times this past summer though, so maybe my beer store holds onto it.

I see it enough that I kind of take it for granted... but, maybe I should be hoarding. :hmmm: :D

Been hitting the Rye hard lately. Picked up a bottle of Pikesville 6yr and a bottle of High West Yippee Ki Ya. Couldn't be more different but are both excellent.

Thanks for all of your replies. I’ll dig into the other ones, anyone ever tried James bean? Was a good beer that I think they stopped production on a couple years ago.

Coop, this beer is incredibly hard to get lol. Closest one is 150 miles away give or take but this sounds amazing. I’ll try the more accessible ones a si love in central cali and I’m sure there’s something solid

Weller Special Reserve is hard to find and nothing super special. Decent sipper but nothing spectacular and not worth the hassle of the work it can take to secure a bottle.

The Rare Breed is absolute gold for an easy to find bourbon. One of my favorites.

I am really liking the Rare Breed. I asked for a recommendation and a guy in the store just bought one, pulled out a shot glass he carried with him and gave me a quick sample. Guy said " You know I'm a drunk when I carry my own shot glass". lol

Neat. Doesn't need ice or water at 45% abv. Tastes like vanilla, oak, butterscotch candies. Typical wheated bourbon flavor profile, not a ton of spice.

In my opinion, MM doesn't really need water and doesn't particularly open up when water is added.

Drink it the way you like it. I used to put a large square cube in EVERYTHING.

Now, I drink almost everything neat. Took me a bit to get there.

I'm actually more likely to put a cube in a lower proof like a Blanton's, Eagle Rare or Buffalo Trace and drink my Barrel Proof stuff like Stagg Jr or Old Forester 1920 neat.
