Poles wants competition at LT at minimum and they are in a prime spot to take Simmons at #10. Jones is far better than anyone on the market, he's just been knicked up a bit the last couple of seasons.

Gotta take a shot somehow. **** it.

In.

I'm not sure we could get that swap made as well. If anything I wonder if we wouldn't have to sweeten the pot a bit given that Jones has a cheap year of control in 2025.

But yeah, I'm doing that in a heartbeat and giving him a 5 year extension without blinking.

See, Balto, this is how you do it.

That would be a pretty Veachy move no doubt. I don’t think they actually plan to move on from Trey, but if they did, I love getting a proven commodity.

What if we had to give our 4th rather than get a pick swap?

Our 3rd?

I think I'm probably still in either way. But at a point you do need to take some of the injury issues into account.

That's one thing we really haven't dealt with much in the Mahomes era -- expensive guys being injured.

Still a strange move. Only a looming extension makes sense to me right now. I just don’t see the guard tag trade and pay.

O.city 03-01-2025 10:39 AM

Surely they aren’t gonna have the highest paid c and the highest paid g

Just doesn’t seem like a smart move

Right. I thought even before last season that Thuney is not gonna be around much longer. Wouldn't surprise me if they designated him a June 1st cut. I know, that's crazy.

I’m guessing that we trade smith. And I think that’s the best move. Doesn’t this signal that we won’t be active for top tier free agents, even our own and that we plan to fill needs through the draft and later, cheaper FA signings? I think that’s the best strategy anyway.

What team is giving up a draft pick for a guard they have to immediately give a big extension to?

I hope that's what they do, but it's really unlikely IMO.

The Bears.

They desperately need him. They can afford making the move and paying him.

Why wouldn't they just draft a guard? Sending a draft pick AND giving up a huge extension would be so stupid of them I can only hope they'd be that dumb. Crow's proposal would be nice but I still see it at unrealistic.

RunKC 03-01-2025 11:34 AM

A team isn’t gonna give more than a 3rd for Trey bc he has to be paid top of market. We also don’t have leverage. They know that $23 million cap anchor is something we don’t want on our cap when FA starts so they can just wait us out.

Bears and Patriots visited with Wyatt Millum this week. Pretty sure they’d rather draft him in rd 2 than give that pick up for Trey and pay him top of the market.

BlackOp 03-01-2025 11:51 AM

This sounds like a situation where KC wants to get draft compensation THIS season...

There will be a market for Smith..probably several teams looking to sign him. Letting him walk for nothing was what they were facing.

Or Veach really does want to make him the highest paid guard while still not having a starting LT...doesnt make sense but this his job, he knows what he's doing.

Because they have massive needs all along the line, they need an OT, two G, and a C.... They need a bustling block to build around, and Smith is the perfect fit for them. You don't want all your guys becoming free agents at once, need some veteran leadership, and they have defensive needs too.
