Star Wars Episode VIII SPOILERS thread

I still haven’t been able to muster the give a **** for a second viewing. I think I’ll wait for video. This will only be the 2nd Star Wars movie I didn’t watch multiple time in the theater(AOTC being the other) I’m glad people enjoyed it, but I just can’t get past my issues with it. To each their own.

This sums up where I'm at.

I can't believe that there was no plan to connect the films that form the trilogy.

cherry picking only the USA market is not a true reflection on these global movies.

It will under-perform just as much foreign but, at the end of the day, how much it makes doesn't really reflect how bad of a movie it is.

Again, because it's a movie that took a hot, steaming, dump over the original trilogy

“In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past"

Has there ever been a worse or more deceiving logline?

Which "age-old mysteries of The Force" were "unlocked"? Neither Luke nor Yoda provided a sliver of new information about The Force.

What "shocking revelations of the past" were revealed?

Snoke? Nope
The Knights of Ren? Nope
Rey's birth parents? Nope
Finn's origins? Nope

Luke wanting to kill Ben Solo? I'd say that's pretty shocking.

I'd say it was pretty stupid but to each, his own

It's in 3rd place this weekend behind Jumanji and Insidious. Variety says it's at $573 million after this weekend, which means there's absolutely no way it reaches $1.5 billion.

From Week 5 to Week 16, The Force Awakens averaged about $8 million per week but at that point, it had already earned $836 million through its first four weeks of release, ending up with $936 after the 16 week run.

I just don't see how The Last Jedi gets beyond $1.3 billion. It'll be lucky to scare up another $24 million domestically.

Solo had really better deliver or Disney will have serious issues with Episode IX.

The important issue here is that Disneyland and Disneyworld are both opening brand new 14 acres Star Wars Land additions in 2019, both of which will favor the characters of the new trilogy versus the Prequels and Original Trilogy.

That's looking to be a very bad gamble and it makes me wonder if Disney Parks won't re-think their new attractions.

It will do around another $60-$70 million if I was guessing.

Once Jumanji came out it kneecapped TLJ.

That and TLJ being a terrible Star Wars movie...

That's surprisingly bad, even for a territory that generally doesn't treat Star Wars as much of a big deal...

Some interesting reason why it is under-performing in China:

I liked this one in particular:

Disney tried to make up for this in The Last Jedi by popping in little cards on the side of the screen every time a major character appeared, with the character’s bio in both Chinese and English. It didn’t help much to allay the confusion caused by the convoluted plot.

Taking in just $4.3m on Thursday made sense, because of the weather. Only bumping up to $6.5m on Friday is another story. This movie had a huge drop from week one to week two. It had a better week three, but now it's in the toilet.

Going full SJW, promoting Grrl Power! instead of a good storyline, and shitting all over what people loved best about the original trilogy has not been wise strategy. Who could have seen that coming?
