I liked the last 1/3 of the movie, even with some of the issues. The first 2/3's, though... The humor was juvenile, the pacing and editing was terrible, it was overdrawn, and like already said the casino scene added nothing.
Rogue One was awesome. TFA, I really enjoyed. This... I don't even know what this was. |
I would also like to point out that they had ships they knew they were abandoning because they were running low on fuel. Why didn't one of the guys left on those ships do the Kamikaze thing and save everyone?

There was just polite applause at the end. The club members were hanging out in the lobby after the movie and they were not happy. |

I don’t even understand why there even needs to be an Episode IX. This film wrapped everything up, well, if you wanted to see the heroes of the original trilogy

Spoiler!
Rian Johnson is writing and directing a new trilogy, set in a different part of the galaxy, with all new characters. That ought to turn out well. |

I thought it was long and there was some kinda weird stuff in it, and some lazy stuff. But on the whole, I enjoyed the hell out of it. I like the de-Luke-ification of it, and the fact that we are going to move forward with Rey and Kylo.
I know people hate me for this, but Rouge One, while awesome to look at and enjoyable to me was largely fan service and was a story that didn't need to be told. This film at least is breaking away from the "look at all the Star Wars stuff you know and love" of the last...well, all of them. I found myself smiling a lot in this, and I really like the momentary team up of Kylo and Rey, but I knew that wasn't going to last and it will lead us into the next movie quite nicely. Flame away, but I thought this was the best of the "modern iterations" of Star Wars. I'm actually looking forward to the next installment. |

As hyped as I was about this movie. After sleeping on it and reading your guys points as well....... I don't like it.
It was an OK movie. And I'm sure giving Rian his own trilogy where he can do what he wants I'm sure will work. But he ****ed up this story. Point blank. If he wanted to add all these different force powers and other shit he should have saved it for his trilogy. The story was slow and clunky, people appear and disappear with no explanation. Just hey throw this here and do that there then leave.

But I did like it enough to feel positive about it being more original than TFA and way better than the prequels, which are largely ignored and forgotten...that's a good thing by the way. I'll have to see it again of course, but I think largely this one gets a thumbs up from me. |
Now I've had time to process this

I get this is Star Wars and you have to buy in to a lot of fantasy, but these movies (at least the original trilogy) never moved into stupid like this film does. |

Poe is no Han Solo. He’s actually a pretty lame character.

The new trilogy seems to be the inverse of the PT to me. As shitty as the acting was in the prequels I thought the writing was decent. Most of it felt like Star Wars to me. I thought the scores were really great in the prequels, too.
These movies got some decent actors and totally shit writing. IX is going to have to totally blow me out of the water to redeem this and I don't see JJ pulling it off. Hopefully the spinoff/standalone movies can redeem the universe a little. Rogue One was a great start. |

So look at the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes:
60% and dropping fast. By comparison The Force Awakens has an 89%. The original trilogy has no film under 94% (RotJ). The Last Jedi is now below prequel film Revenge of the Sith and has only 3-points to go before it falls below Attack of the Clones as the worst Audience Score of all the Star Wars movies. UPDATE: That didn't take long...it is now down to 59% have just tied The Phantom Menace. Still dropping... |

Those movies are gonna be shit. |
It seems like Rian Johnson and the Star Wars braintrust went out of their way to do the opposite of what fans expected because -- why not? The misdirection worked in the film, but the place it got them to with respect to Rey's parents, Snoke, Luke, and Leia would actually have been better if they had gone in the opposite direction. I get that you don't want to be derivative, but they ended up in just about the worst place you could take a Star Wars film and they did it only to "be different."
Audience scores continue to fall in difference to the reviewers. Big disconnect on this one. |

If Solo flops (and at this point, it's certainly not a guaranteed success), Iger may need to step in and make changes at Lucasfilm. |

Phil Lord and Chris Miller deserve better. |
After falling from 65% to 58% this morning, the RT Audience Score has stopped updating...

I'm cheering for it to fall under The Phantom Menace. Such a disappointment. |
Quote:
It's not as if Lord & Miller weren't paid. It didn't work out. That happens in collaborations almost more often than not. |
The way they're handling the OT characters I may end up hating this trilogy more than the PT.

I had a couple of questions about the Film. I am unsure if this will come off wrong but I am wondering if it is a Disney Influence.
Spoiler!
Hope that doesn't come off as Woman bashing or whatever. I think Rey is a good character and is played really well by Daisy Ridley. Think she gained force powers a little to quickly. Also liked Leias character minus the Mary Poppins bit. |

I'm really surprised you couldn't just sit back and enjoy this one, man. It was a pure ****ing love letter to Star Wars from Rian Johnson. It was beautiful, man. |
