Tittle is Under the Skin. Red box has it rated 1 star. LMAO
RT has it 80+ by critics and 50+ by audiences. Just one more reason I barely even notice Redbox ratings. Local place has it, may pick it up for tomorrow. |

Watched Sushi Girl. Torture / Revenge porn with Mark Hamill. Tarantino style flick. Hamill was shockingly good. Fun movie that I had never heard of until it popped up on Netflix. A naked Cortney Palm was awesome eye candy as well!

Americans are dumbed down, yes I said it. Any American critic that didn't find something good about this movie should go to their garage, shut the door, and turn their car on until they die... because they have simply become inured to good movies that lack 'splosions. RedBox reviewers are a bunch of drooling morons that wouldn't know good storytelling if it came up and kicked them in their shriveled dongs... omg, what a bunch of idiot Americans. |
Quote:
80+ from critics is good, not sure what you're on about. But wholly agree with Redbox reviewers. |

The Signal was ok, ending kinda blew it for me. Irreversible is pretty crazy, but it's not a Scifi movie. One of my fave mind ****s is Memento, but I think everyone has seen that. |

I hear seen it yet, but on your recommendation I will watch it. |
Have been meaning to watch Under the Skin for a while and really need to after reading these suggestions.

You have seriously oversold this movie. Not bad by any means. ScarJo is very good (better than I thought capable, honestly), and it's a gorgeous film, but it's painfully "arty". It's a thinker, and there's no doubt why it never got a wide theatrical release - it's just not very accessible for most audiences. |
Quote:
The first 1/3 of the film is just her finding "victims." We never get her motivations, no questions are answered after about the 1/3 mark, and there might not be 200 words of dialogue in the whole movie. This might be like reading "The Man In The High Tower." Yes, it's a good work of science fiction but hard to enjoy if you aren't a fan of the specific genre or that type of writing/film making. |

We'll all just have to agree to disagree, that movie is the kind of intelligent sci-fi this world doesn't have neeearly enough of... kudos to the Scottish film board for putting this out. |
Quote:
|
By the way, "intelligent" I'm perfectly OK with. This was mostly inaccessible.
|
Quote:
If I wanted accessible I would've rented Transformers. |
Quote:

Quote:
Accessible has nothing to do with how great a movie is or can be. In fact, I actually chose this movie because it didn't look like mainstream fare... ScarJo being nude repeatedly was just a bonus. |
Quote:
But I don't think we're using accessible in the same way. I mean it's not very approachable, easy to get into. A movie can not be mainstream, while still being accessible to viewers. It can be intelligent while still being accessible. Most audiences, even among the movie-going literate, would find this movie a strange duck. There's very little dialog; there's very little action (and I don't mean bang bang, car go boom, action; I mean very little actually happens); there's a huge amount metaphor; there's also a huge amount of "WTF is going on". |
I had no trouble following this movie at all, it was this aliens transformation from cold, murderous otherworldly creature... to becoming somehow enchanted with what it means to be human, it gained a level of compassion and wanted to experience life as we experience it.
Its artsy for sure, but not so high minded that its hard to follow... anyway, this debate is over... I loved it and that's that. |

Her character is wasted by scene after scene of her "recruiting" people and by the time she's "in danger" I'm actually cheering for the person after her. I don't sympathize with her fate - there was no redemption - and I was almost as happy with the ending as I was burning the DVD in my portable grill and watching the smoke rise from that as I told Netflix it was never delivered... |

Of course there was something gained in the journey... this creature became so fascinated with humans that it wanted to become one, it learned compassion and empathy along the way. |
Quote:
She never did gain any compassion. She remained emotionless throughout the whole film. She never, at any point, displayed any emotion other than self-preservation. She was a ****ing drone, that got bored with being a drone, and never changed from being a drone, but left and got killed. The end. Oh, and she looked like ass naked. I prefer her CGI body WAY more in the Avengers and her natural body in The Island MUCH more... |
Quote:
Spoiler!
Looked like ass naked... wow, you've went off the deep end. |

YOU GUYS WOULDNT KNOW A GOOD STORY IF IT CAME UP AND ROUNDHOUSED YOUR ASS.

Seriously... waited like a decade for her nude scenes. How the **** does it turn out that meh?

*The NEW Movies Thread*
Because part of the point is exposing this woman who has been objectified for the past decade, and doing so in an almost clinical way.
It wasn't meant to be sexy. |

It was disappointing. They barely showed anything we hadn't already seen a dozen time over.

Watched Focus and Fast and Furious 6
Focus was alright. 7/10 FF6 was fun but incredibly stupid and way too long. Runway scene took longer than most TV show episodes. It was just ridiculous. Posted via Mobile Device |

On a side note; I was OK with the 2nd Matrix. Except for that chase/fight scene on the highway. Augh. |
The Signal was a crazy movie.
|
Quote:
Unless it has ScarJo in mediocre nude scenes, Easy 6 thinks it sucks. :p |

Fishburne is great in it. |
I hated Signal. The beginning was interesting as hell, but the end was horrible.

Anyone seen Insurgent yet? I have read the first 2 books in the trilogy and have enjoyed them. Saw the first movie and it was okay. Going to see this movie tonight.

Watched "kill the messenger" last night.....enjoyed it....had read a lot on the topic previously....so nothing came to me as a shock in the film.
Im assuming if you dont know the bakckground, youll probably enjoy the film even more. |

Watched "Mine Games."
Not bad. 3 of 5 stars. This flick could have been a lot better if a few things were more fleshed out (like the "psychic" girl and what was going on with her) but still not bad. A decent horror/sci-fi you won't hate, has a few good surprises, and overall enjoyable if you don't need everything spelled out for you... |
Watched The Imitation Game yesterday. Excellent, excellent flick.

Watched Safety Not Guaranteed. Really liked it.
Also watched a bit of Upstream Color. Hated it to the point I had to turn it off. While reading more about it, I saw someone say exactly what I was thinking about Shane Carruth. He has amazing concepts and great ideas, but he's not good as a story teller. Posted via Mobile Device |
Finally caught John Carter. I missed the first part of it. I basically came in when he was going to Mars, but it was a good flick.
Worth the time. |

Primer is probably one of the top 10 best sci-fi movies of all time. I also watched I, ORIGINS yesterday and really liked it. Mostly a flick about science being able to prove or disprove religion/reincarnation and the scientist who struggles with it. Brit Marling is solid as the lab assistant. I'm quickly falling in love with this woman... |
Home. Meh.

Watched Gone Girl. What a weird movie. Still not sure how I feel about it... but not in a good way.
I guess I could see it as a hyperbolic comment on the dysfunction underlying most modern marriage... but it just seemed like lazy writing, in all honesty. |

We really liked St. Vincent. Cute story, good job by Bill Murray.

Completed both seasons of Orange is the New Black...one of the best shows I've ever watched. So many great characters.
Gonna try and watch Mad Men now. First two episodes are a little boring though. The misogyny is a fun thing, however. :) |

I will say it took me 3 or 4 episodes to get into Orange. I was pretty put off by the leads early. Glad I stuck with it though. |
