Would they ever consider doing a 6-man rotation for a while to slow down Duffy’s innings? Or is that not important enough to risk getting the other starters out of whack?

That is FAR, FAR too progressive and forward thinking for this front office or managerial team to tinker with it.

Besides, it would also limit the starts you have Shields making. It honestly would probably be better to use a spot starter to skip them once a month or something like that.

FOX has decided to pick up 6 Royals games as part of MLB's national TV contract. 2 of them will be Saturday games on Fox (5/24, 6/7) and 4 will be on FS1 (5/3, 7/26, 8/26, 9/6).

150 games will be televised on FSKC, so only 6 games won't be on TV.

Kinda interesting how our 2 games on big Fox are late June/early May. They want the royals on just in case they are good, but not on too late in the season in case we fall apart.

I've been looking at our schedule today, and wow September is gonna be brutal. On the morning of September 1st, we had better be leading the division or have a firm grip on a wild card spot because we'll be losing some games in the last month. If we're chasing someone in September, we're in trouble.

I noticed that late season gauntlet as well. Really hoping the starting pitching holds up. My concern is some of the guys could be on limited innings by then. I know they said Duffy was going to be. Not so sure they will not limit Ventura if he starts out with the big club. I really don't want September to come and have us running out Chen and for lack of better options Davis and hoping to hold a spot in the playoffs. I would think Chen has to regress at some point...just hoping it is not this year. Maybe if we keep him around the 15 to 20 start range he can be effective.

Thats just not realistic, at all. Its clearly popular, and you are talking about a business that is interested in creating an atmosphere that encourages even the very casual fans to buy a few tickets, and this certainly helps with that. Or, at least the total absence of a sing-along song would be noticed.

They should have the fans vote in the middle of the second inning which song they'd like to hear in the 6th. The vote should be via show of hands.

It's all about shiny objects. There is no quiet time between innings any more. It's all a marketing opportunity.

Also, why do we have to have just one song? Pick a bunch of them, and change it up. Going to a ballgame shouldn't be like going to mass. They should have some variety.

The Chiefs game day experience has this same problem. Same formula every week. Mix it up. Surprise us now and then.

I endorse this idea. If we're going to have songs, lets have a few of them and rotate them. I know the appeal of sticking with one song is so the fans can learn it and really get into singing it, but as long as you have the words and the silly bouncing ball on the screen, I'm sure we can all manage.

Laugh if you want, but its partially true, and the casual fans who are positively affected probably don't even know it. Just like some fans buy tickets partially for the Sheridan's frozen custard, partially for the kiddie playground, and oh yeah partially for this whole baseball game thing against the Chicago whosits too.

Its all part of the fan experience and all of them would probably say they are going to watch the game, but all this stuff costs money. Do you think these teams are stupid and blowing money on bells and whistles for nothing? If we all sat on benches and the PA announcer didn't say a word between innings, that shouldn't make a difference, we're all there for the game, right? Just get your hot dog and beer, sit down, and watch the game.

hmm, Bovada only has the over/under at 82 1/2. I can dismiss Vegas as "lol, dumb gamblers", but internet gamblers ought to be smart, they aren't dropping some money over a Vegas weekend.

Does that line seem crazy-low to everyone else? Are we just a bunch of wild-eyed optimists here, because if the over/under really should be that low, then we have a very big chance at a losing team, and I just have a hard time seeing that. Our defense and pitching won't decline that much, and our offense has got to see a huge improvement.

alnorth 03-01-2014 01:22 PM

Schoenfield agrees, he has an ESPN article on every team's over/under and he thinks the Royals are set too low. It looks like bovada had them at 81.5 just 2 days ago, so this article may have caused them to bump it up a game.

Screw it, I'm jumping on this right now at 82 1/2. I'm putting at least a couple hundred on the over and I'll be really pissed if that bet doesn't pay off.

This is awesome, its too bad they won't get this in every park until 2015. As the article says, that really does look like the defensive holy grail, once we have this set up, by 2016 or 2017 we should really start to know a lot more about how much a player's defense is really worth in runs and wins. The only things we'd have left to do is to quantify a fielder's decision-making in a fielder's choice situation, and the influence the catcher has on the pitcher.

It's hard to explain if you haven't been out here in "cold" weather. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trading with you guys but it often feels much colder here than the posted temp in the winter. Not sure if it's due to the thin air or if your body just reacts differently to the climate.
