The first thing better be, don't hire Scott Pioli as your GM.

Looking back, the top 10 Was mostly trash.

Who should we have taken? BJ Raji?

Would have been better to trade down into the mid to late first round.

Were they going after you because the football team was bad, Scott?

Or were they going after you because the team was bad AND you were a smug, arrogant, nepotistic, incompetent, tone deaf, coattail-riding gasbag who had demonstrated over the course of 5 years that you were incapable of learning from your mistakes?

Now ask yourself the same question about Denver. Is it because the QB is bad? Or is he bad AND overpaid AND a sanctimonious fake-ass douchebag?

In fairness, there wasn't a good pick for us in 2009. The first round was pretty much a big bucket of George Paton-level failure. But it's still telling that Pioli reached even during a draft that weak.

Here's my thing about pioli....if we didn't have him, would we be where we are today? Think about it. If we had a decent gm that gave us average to slightly above average win/losses, do we go out and hire a big name like Andy reid? Would Andy still come here if he cant make the GM decisions like he originally wanted?

We needed pioli to suck enough in order to be great.

Because it was dead. Herm started the Chiefs were contenders. He ended as a Herm team. Franchise Killer Pioli took over a 2-14 joke of a team and left it a 2-14 joke of a team.

Plus it was my first go around at pure suck. I missed the pre-Marty days so I was painfully unaware of how awful that level of suck felt.

Yes, technically Pioli was worse. I guess. It’s like AIDS is worse than gonorrhea. Pioli was worse but I was numb to it. Herm did the damage. By the time Pioli came around I was checked out. At least in terms of thinking the franchise wasn’t snakebit.

I sort of lump the whole Herm & Pioli eras into one giant fireball of misery that I actively choose to forget.

I do remember one cool play in the Herm era against Tampa Bay where Tyler Thigpen handed a reverse to Mark Bradley and then caught a TD pass on a trick play. That was pretty sweet!

Chris Meck 11-30-2022 11:15 AM

I get that perspective. However, fat Scott cut off and alienated a fan base that views its team as a vital part of the community. Remember all the player’s charity posters lining the wall of the stands around the field that went away during that time? The connection with the team was taken away. That’s why that ****er is worse than Herm.

OP updated with my feelings on Pioli 13.5 years later.

What does that have to do with his departure from Baltimore?

LMAO We should all be happy right now. Pioli admitted who his daddy is on National TV! And it’s us! We are his daddy’s! Our little disappointed at least admitted us to be his daddy!

I think you could have found somebody else, digging up her body would be a lot of work.

I was at work. As I recall we always assumed but never heard any solid rumors during the year that he was going to be fired. After the last game RAC was fired but Pioli still wasn't and IIRC interviewed the Falcons ST coordinator & someone else. For a few days after the season it seemed like that bastard was going to stay around.
