That's because no one from the streets could ever be a good productive part of society.

No one is saying that. But this all aligns with the peter principle.

The peter principle? Which is something that applies to basic, tired, bureaucratic corporations who just keep promoting average and borderline competent people because that's the general upward drift of a career?

You seriously think the Chiefs coaching ranks are like that? It's just any old job? Performance doesn't matter?

This doesn't remotely align with the peter principle.

The entire NFL is like that. That's how people like Gunther, Herm, Haley and Pioli get jobs they are terrible at.

100%.

You never truly "get fired" from the NFL.

You just move from Kansas City to Detroit. From Miami to Baltimore. From Philly to Seattle.

Look at Herm Edwards.

He wasn't a marquee player. But he scored the Miracle at the Meadowlands.

And became a coach. And he was such a good DB coach for Tony Dungy...that he became head coach of the Jets.

Wait, what?

Dude has never coordinated a defense. At any level.

5 years in NY (with Paul Hackett as OC - remember, no one EVER truly gets fired) and they've had enough of his shtick there, it's obvious he's in over his head. So what do they do?

Trade him to KC. They need a rebuild.

We were an old team that needed a rebuild.

Dude had no real business being an NFL head coach. Same with Romeo. Those guys flamed out at both stops (Cleveland and here for RC, NY and here for Herm) because they got peter principled.

I don't think you understand the peter principle if you believe external hires like Haley and Pioli fall under it.

This kinda reminds me of your article. It's another attempt to cast the very widest net of nonsense and hope it catches something that's valid.

Stick to your narrative.

Well I think Andy got lazy, sympathetic and intimidated all at once. Meaning, he felt sorry for EB not getting a HC position, regardless of not having a contract with the Chiefs, the optics had to be protected to prevent Flores crap and Andy's system is so complicated that it means somebody coming in from the outside would have to learn from scratch on top of never working with Mahomes. A whole new synchronization and chemistry would start from scratch again. Andy just said, "screw it, I'll just jump Eric's ass behind closed doors and neuter him until he moves on".

I actually don't think it's fair to dredge that stuff up. But tigers don't change their stripes. And his behavior last season shouldn't come as a shock to anyone.

It doesn't, they don't, and it shouldn't.

But we need this piece of turgid garbage far, far away from our once in a lifetime generational QB.

I'm increasingly convinced that Chiefs fans are among the dumbest in the NFL, and the players are right that the fanbase is toxic.

I really need to take more breaks in the offseason.

You're operating under the guise that there are actually 32 independent franchises that make all their own decisions, when we know for a fact that isn't really the case at all.

The NFL is a singular entity made up of many moving parts.

When Dick Haley's boy and Bill Parcell's son in law (Pioli) want a ****ing job, they get one. Haley was actually a great WR coach and OC. He may have been a great head coach, had his GM not driven him insane and broke him. We don't know.

But we know they got promotions in KC...for the successes they had elsewhere.

What other industry gives promotions like that to "external hires"???

ROFL
LMAO

Come on. You're an intelligent person.

You can see it.

Andy has always hung on to coaches past their shelf life. Not saying EB is past his shelf life, just that its kind of his MO. They bitched about it in Philly. But, no way EB is back without Mahomes approval. None. If he thinks it can work out, that's good enough for me.

This is such a stupid argument. Both of those people had success in their prior roles. That's typically a prerequisite to be poached by other organizations, and that's true in any field. Regardless of the relationships they have.

What world do you live in that you can't see that's pretty standard? I see this every single day in my industry.

It's called a meritocracy. And it's exactly why EB didn't get a head coaching job. Because there's no Oz just pulling the strings behind the scenes based on relationships and optics.
