And if Jones thinks he should be in the realm of Bosa or any elite edge rusher's contract he should look at his tape of the failed experiment when he was given the chance to play that spot. Sorry CJ but DTs aren't as valued as edge. Donald is the extreme outlier and while he's a stud he's not Donald.

Are those figures based on any sort of reality, or are we just spit-balling?

He made the game ending sack on Burrow in the AFCCG lined up at DE.

I mean it's not like the defense have been world beaters even with Jones on the field. 35 points allowed in the Super Bowl is nothing to brag about.

Jones played well in SF Bowl and Cincy playoff game this year. He was big time but he's not so incredible in every playoff run you give him whatever he commands.

would you rather have Chris Jones at 28M per year or Nick Bosa at $32M per year

The latter by a mile.

As would - I imagine - every NFL GM.

Short, very short-term memory around here.

Chris Jones changes the way the Chiefs play defense. Spags' can get flexible with the calls.

Pay the man!

That's why age is so critical.

The idea behind these deals that 're-set the market' is that they're locked in for 4-5 years and by the end of them, salary cap increases lead to those deals being pretty reasonable.

But you gotta have a guy you're comfortable will still be playing at high level in 4-5 years.

Bosa is the same age now as Jones was when he signed his deal and 're-set the market' for DTs. And that ended up working out well for both sides because there was a reasonable likelihood that by the end of the deal, the market caught up to the contract and the player maintained a high level throughout it.

So yeah, Bosa's the better bet and lets set aside the likely difference in pure ability. The AGE makes all the difference in the world here.

1,000%. And still, even at the same age, I'd rather have Bosa.

I have a video of him about 30 minutes later after he jumped into the stands right next to me and chugged a beer after we won.

I turned it into a gif that I’ve been waiting to post once he signed…
