Yeah - stuff like that just isn't my speed.

I've had people try to get me to read The Kiterunner for years and I'm just like "Nah, I don't need to put 15 hours into being depressed. I have sports for that..."

Nothing about Adolescence seems even remotely appealing to me.

It's probably been mentioned somewhere in here, but Prime is now airing The Chosen. It's up to Season 4 now and season 5 will be in theaters like this weekend, with a streaming date in June I think. My wife and I enjoy binging the show during Lent. It's kind of a bummer that season 5 won't be streamed until this summer.

It's a really interesting imagining of Jesus and his disciples. Really fleshes out characters from the Bible who we really don't know much about at all. Kind of an imagining of what these folks were like, how they reacted to the events of the gospels etc. It's not preachy. I'm not a big fan of most Christian offerings, but this is the big exception to that rule for me.

After all the talk about Adolescence I watched the trailer and it certainly looks well made. After reading the plot summary definitely a hard pass for me. I get my fair share of little maniacs in the real world. But I can appreciate if part of the message is basically that kids need to be offline and that social media should be treated as harmful to them as it actually is.

The van scene in the last episode of Adolescence is Breaking Bad "I have cancer" episode good and should win something

Its a ****ing downer though. Reminds me a bit of Brian's Song meets Where the Red Fern Grows

Which is fine and all, and I blame myself for not doing any type of research on it, but I went in thinking its a "who done it" type of crime drama, which it 3/4ths is but the last 1/4 is 'welp looks like I'm not getting laid tonight and possibly the next day' if you're watching with your lady

I'm an emotional midget though so YMMV

Yeah, none of it is an easy watch. But it’s technically brilliant, the acting is as good as anything, the nuance is there, and it leaves you really thinking deeply about something real, topical, and important. I didn’t have any issue watching it because it was a downer, but I’ll admit that I can’t stomach things that have elements of animal cruelty. So I absolutely get that different people process things differently.

Watch an episode and then use White Lotus as a chaser!

I even went back and rewatched some of it to see what I might have missed that is supposed to be appealing.

Like you said, I don't need help getting down and depressed.

That 'This is Us' show was the #1 show in the country for a couple years based on nothing more than randomly killing beloved characters and making people cry.

There's an audience for that kind of gut-punch television.

I just ain't in it. People like Reality TV and 2 and a Half Men. To each their own...

I don't doubt that it's very well done - seems to be a consensus opinion. But I'm not gonna watch it when to a person the verdict is "man it's a difficult watch..."

I watch a lot of reality TV. The over-the-top drama can be quite entertaining. I consider most of them "comedies".

"They were talking wheelchairs and even stair lifts like Mrs. Deagle has in Gremlins." LMFAO

Gemstones has the golden lines.

Yeah, me neither, I want to be entertained not traumatized.

For quite a while I was watching reruns of 2 1/2 men and more recently "King of Queens" as it is so funny and easy to watch when you are tired.

You don't have to strain your noggin to follow and it is relaxing.

Just a little while ago I busted out laughing a couple times at season 8 of King of Queens.

Flip it, flip it, you said we'll flip it.

My boss did it and got rich.

Well he's smart, you're dumb as ass. ROFL

I watched quite a bit of it a couple years ago and it got to the point I didn't dig it anymore. Don't remember the exact reason, but I was done.

Pepe Silvia 03-25-2025 05:22 PM

I might watch Yellowjackets just so I can check out Christina Ricci.
