I'm not at all impressed with BT even for less than $20...

That port barrel aged Peppers sound like my next purchase but $50+
I hate dropping that on Whisky.

$80 for bourbon is when you buy the bottle at a bar. About a round of shots.

Haven’t tried any of the others yet, only 2 bottles of BT.

I just got into drinking bourbon around Christmas time. I gave up drinking for a long time, used to drink way too much. So I’m just now getting back into the game.

So I will slowly go through the list, and try them all. I do love BT though, I can get it for about $18 from the store I go to in Columbia, instead of $23

Misplaced_Chiefs_Fan 06-22-2019 08:24 PM

Haven't tried bourbon in years. Got too many single-malt bottles in my cabinet to get through first.

Eagle Rare is shit. 1783 ain’t bad, but it’s not good either.

Agree to disagree I guess. I can’t ever find it here in ATL but in the $25 range I love Weller Antique I believe.

Around me Most Buff trace brands are really hard to find if not impossible outside of regular buff trace or ST. Seems some places still get in Special Reserve pretty regularly and good quantities but shelves can go empty for a while between shipments. Also have good luck at a local chain that’s somewhere in a not so good part of town.

You are way off on Trace but maybe you can challenge me on this.... Old Grand is the best 18 dollar bottle you can buy. I havent had it since December because I made the mistake of drinking it while watching the Chiefs play Seattle. It's a good liquor for its price and will get you ****ed up.

Love Weller Antique. It's so hard to find here that it's around $50 a bottle now.

If you find some for $25 let me know and I'm in! lol

I am just saying there are plenty of options at the same price as BT that I consider better. I am not saying BT is swill, it's just way down the list for a $20-30 bottle for me.

Old Grand Dad is great. Stick to that and especially at that price!

cooper barrett 06-23-2019 12:28 PM

BT is a high teens bottle. Period.

When you add 50% more you get decent shit

Period.

Depends on location. BT less easy to find and $24 here. When I can get numerous bottles at the same price, or a few less (Bulliet Rye, Larceny, Elijah Craig and OGD) I'll do it. And for $5 more per bottle, I can really up my game from BT.

If you're buying alcohol for the taste and can't afford $5 more for a better bottle, you probably live with a roommate in Billay's neighborhood.

Weller Antique's wholesale price almost doubled this year. I believe that $49.99 is MSRP now.

Third Eye 06-23-2019 10:17 PM

So I was at a hotel bar in downtown Boston over the weekend. I expected to be paying a premium given how expensive Boston is. Instead, I was privy to some of the most bizarre pricing I’ve ever seen. I took a pic:

<blockquote class="imgur-embed-pub" lang="en" data-id="a/pyeQLjo"><a href="//imgur.com/a/pyeQLjo"></a></blockquote><script async src="//s.imgur.com/min/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Blanton’s the same price as Maker’s? High West American Prairie more expensive than Whistlepig?

Then you go with Blantons, that shit is the bomb.

Bewbies 06-23-2019 10:29 PM

I’ve been drinking Michters various options and Basil Hayden a lot more lately. And just buying stuff I have never had.

Blanton’s is my favorite of the stuff that is not terribly difficult to get your hands on. I’ve got some friends that get all the rarer Col Taylor’s and stuff that is hard to get. Not all, but most of those that cost over $100 a bottle I’d still take Blanton’s.

So I started by running through the Sazarac owned ones since I can never find them locally. Then I had a Whistlepig. Then I let the bartender do the driving with a few northeasterners I wasn’t familiar with. Discovered that I am not a fan of peated bourbons.

Blanton's was fine when it was $50 a bottle. Going for $80-100 here now and it's not worth that!

ILChief 06-26-2019 07:46 PM

My local Sam’s club has buffalo trace for $22 and Elijah Craig for $27. Picked up one of each. They had eagle rare for $30 but they were all gone

getting ready to kill 1st of 12 bottles of Eagle Rare......

KCTitus 06-30-2019 09:12 PM

I havent seen a bottle of Eagle or BT or Blantons in my local state run liquor store in about 18 months...****ing state run liquor stores suck the peen.

I have learned to get some contacts within the system to know where the one or two cases of said bourbon gets distributed locally, but alas, I actually have a job and must work, so i cannot camp out at the one location that gets a few bottles, as opposed to the retired deginerate drunks that can.

The last time I found any BT product was in Saint ****ing Louis...not even in Louisville Ky, home of Buffalo Trace, Saint ****ing Louis.

To those casually shopping at costco and grabbing a few bottles, I tip my glass...I cannot hate, I would do the same.

O.city 06-30-2019 09:21 PM

I think I paid 50 for blantons here in Springfield
It’s not easy to find but usually you can find it with some searching

KCTitus 06-30-2019 09:28 PM

You're lucky to find blantons around here a drink at a bar goes for about 15. Shit Buffalo Trace has became hard to find.

This is great news. Let's just start with easy to locate ones.

Old Forrester 100 proof
Larceny
Russell's Reserve
Elijah Craig
4 Roses Single Barrel
High West American Prairie Bourbon

All of these can be had for less than $40 and pretty easy to find.

Hog's Gone Fishin 07-07-2019 07:46 AM

I will pick up a couple of those and then report back. Can you throw a couple of harder to find ones at me. I have a pretty good liquor store in town that holds lots of different bourbons. Also have a friend who works with Momma, that can apparently get about anything as well.

Weller Antique or 12.
Knob Creek Rye
Sazerac Rye (love this and not pricey)
Henry McKenna
Wild turkey rare breed

cooper barrett 07-07-2019 02:05 PM

I think if Eagle rare is affordable, go for it and you must try Bookers. Maybe the 30 year?

FDrumpf 07-07-2019 03:42 PM

Perineum Ripper 07-07-2019 04:01 PM

I am 3 drinks into the OLD Ezra and diet coke and think it's way better than the Evan but not ER. I will open a bottle of Eagle Rare and acid test it in a few minutes (30).

I think Old Ezra will win. Only my SO will know for sure.

Splurged for a taste of pappys tonight

Overrated imo

Miles 07-19-2019 11:07 PM

Bought a few this evening on the way home:
Four Roses Single Barrel
High West Rendezvous Rye
Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Heavily Peated Islay

The Scotch is the only one of the three I haven’t had and wasn’t in the mood for peated smoke tonight so dipped into the High West. Always like these guys.

What year? I’ve only had the 10 and it was years ago and keep hearing the good stuff doesn’t kick in until the 15.

Boiled Chicken 08-12-2019 02:59 PM

Just picked up a bottle of Old Forester 1920 - delicious. A Nashville buddy brought me a bottle of Old Hickory, also tasty. Got a bottle of Noah’s Mill...didn’t really wow me. Can’t get my hand on any Blanton’s, but sampled some at Harry’s, and must say it’s very nice. Aside from Blanton’s, I’m looking into a bottle of Little Book and Peerless Rye. Peerless is nice, but I haven’t had the Little Book. I’m skeptical about Little Book because it’s effectively Jim Beam, and I’m not really into Jim.

Thoughts?

Incidentally - went to Campground in West Bottoms today...I recommend more than the new Rieger spot in East Bottoms.

srvy 08-12-2019 07:07 PM
