Bingo, but Hill has gotta be in there against Finland Monday. Binnington was awful against Sweden earlier this week too.

It's so weird to find myself rooting against Drew Doughty and for the Tkachuk's. Such is international hockey.

Glad it's back and can't wait for the Olympics. Anyone know if Russia will be allowed to compete?

Doesn’t matter if you control play if you don’t have a goalie, that’s the difference between these teams

No doubt in my mind that Putin and the IOC will come to some kind of agreement to let them play, IOC is corrupt and easily bought off

But even on paper that was the difference.

If USA won this it was always going to be because their goalies were just better. It's the one area (and maybe D) where they could match/exceed Canada.

It's like saying "yeah well we'd beat you if you didn't have Mahomes..."

Sure, but we do.

USA just has better goaltending than Canada.

Yeah - lots of Canada fans pissed they didn't start Hill but he's not great either. I don't think he's better or worse than Binner. He's about the same.

Thompson is, IMO, the only guy who could go in there and stare down Hellebuyck on any given night.

Binnington almost cost them the Sweden game and arguably cost them this one.

What happened to Canada's goaltending? Breaking down a national crisis in the net

Canada used to have the best goalies but other countries are getting better. Here's what we can learn from them

The 4 Nations Face-Off roster reveals in early December set off alarmists who bemoaned the selection of Team Canada goalies Jordan Binnington, Adin Hill and Sam Montembeault, as well as an alleged puck-stopping paucity stemming from the development system that spawned them.

Had you ingested much of that coverage, you could have been forgiven for believing the Americans, Swedes and Finns boasted the world’s top nine goaltenders while the second comings of Warren Score Against Me and Red Light Racicot were due to cost Canada any chance of tournament success in Montreal and Boston in February. Indeed, the on-air and online hand-wringing seemed surely to precipitate the next Open Ice Summit.
It’s a national crisis

Don’t like the boos? Maybe stop having the idiot-in-chief say every other day they’re gonna turn an independent country on the border into a 51st state. Feels like that should be an easy fix but we all know who we’re dealing with

The booing of the anthem is quite literally a political protest directed at one person so that isn’t correct whatsoever.

Not sure how that changes anything about what I said. The act of booing was very clearly an act of political protest towards him (and anthems themselves are also inherently political).

If someone is coming in here solely to bitch about that rather than anything about the game, they’re the one making things political. I’d personally rather discuss how weak Canada is in net and whether Binnington is going to be starting tomorrow myself.

Without Makar and Pietrangelo, you're probably right.

But with those two guys, the Canadian D is extremely formidable. And I do think they should've brought Bouchard with them but I guess they decided that the games are probably going to be tight enough that a defensive lapse could be enough to lose them a game so they went with more defensively oriented blue-liners.

I mean Makar, Pietro, Morrissey and Bouchard is a pretty incredible top 2 pairs.

But to your larger point -- yeah, the gap is closing. And will probably continue to close. But I do think it's pretty likely that Canada continues to be better at the very top end of their rosters going forward. Where they McDavid and MacKinnon as their top forwards, we have Matthews and Hughes. Ours top end is very good but theirs is simply better.

Thank God for the Hughes and Tkachuk families, man. I mean its easy to joke about, but take Jack, Quinn, Brady and Matthew off this team and man that's a ton of talent lost. Quinn Hughes being better than Jack (IMO) was NOT on my bingo card. But both of those guys are outstanding.

Yeah, not having Makar makes a huge difference and I was speaking specifically to the rosters as currently constructed (injuries included). But even moving forward, the level that Faber plays at already considering his age, is incredible. And at a minimum, I think we match up pretty well, Defensively, against Canada even if they were at full-strength.

I think I'm just mainly excited that we can even talk about being on even-footing with them in some areas.

I think people sleep on Hughes more than they should even though he won the Norris.

He can score with Makar but seems to be a steadier defensive presence than Makar is.

He's incredible and more and more people seem to finally be noticing. Like I said, I didn't see that one coming at all. I thought he'd be a good player but I didn't have him becoming the best defenseman in the NHL and he's very much on his way there if he isn't already.

Like a quarter of the Avalanche roster is playing
The Tkachuks are kind of dicks, Matthews falls somewhere between the Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen of hockey
Jake Guentzel played at UNO, so he's cool
