Which is...not ideal. He absolutely gave up that patented Binner 1st period bullshit softie though. Damn he does that a lot. |

It's so weird to find myself rooting against Drew Doughty and for the Tkachuk's. Such is international hockey.
Glad it's back and can't wait for the Olympics. Anyone know if Russia will be allowed to compete? |

Doesn’t matter if you control play if you don’t have a goalie, that’s the difference between these teams |

If USA won this it was always going to be because their goalies were just better. It's the one area (and maybe D) where they could match/exceed Canada. It's like saying "yeah well we'd beat you if you didn't have Mahomes..." Sure, but we do. USA just has better goaltending than Canada. |
This is just some outstanding hockey. That start was nuts

Thompson is, IMO, the only guy who could go in there and stare down Hellebuyck on any given night. |
Eat shit Canada. Serves them right for booing the anthem.

If he’s in there against Finland Monday, they may miss out on the rematch Thursday |

Good win USA.

Any of them could blow that game for them. |

I didn't watch with slow motion replay or anything but those fights looked pretty pedestrian although unexpected.
I'll I have to say: SCORBOARD BITCHES!!! |
Boston should be quite the atmosphere on Thursday, especially if we rematch Canada. I really don't like the place, but I'm glad they'll be hosting it.

Don’t like the boos? Maybe stop having the idiot-in-chief say every other day they’re gonna turn an independent country on the border into a 51st state. Feels like that should be an easy fix but we all know who we’re dealing with |

Purely speculative as most Americans could care less what your prime minister has to say. You only make yourselves look like whiney bitches when you boo our national anthem. |
Quote:
And it's not speculative at all. Booing an anthem is the least Americans would do if some other world leader was talking regularly about annexing their country. |
How can a hockey thread get moved to DC lol

He was talking about how classless it is to boo someone's national anthem, which is 100% true.
You're the only one who brought politics into it. |

Was that one person in the arena last night?
|
Quote:
If someone is coming in here solely to bitch about that rather than anything about the game, they’re the one making things political. I’d personally rather discuss how weak Canada is in net and whether Binnington is going to be starting tomorrow myself. |

Hope they win so we can play them again. |

But with those two guys, the Canadian D is extremely formidable. And I do think they should've brought Bouchard with them but I guess they decided that the games are probably going to be tight enough that a defensive lapse could be enough to lose them a game so they went with more defensively oriented blue-liners. I mean Makar, Pietro, Morrissey and Bouchard is a pretty incredible top 2 pairs. But to your larger point -- yeah, the gap is closing. And will probably continue to close. But I do think it's pretty likely that Canada continues to be better at the very top end of their rosters going forward. Where they McDavid and MacKinnon as their top forwards, we have Matthews and Hughes. Ours top end is very good but theirs is simply better. Thank God for the Hughes and Tkachuk families, man. I mean its easy to joke about, but take Jack, Quinn, Brady and Matthew off this team and man that's a ton of talent lost. Quinn Hughes being better than Jack (IMO) was NOT on my bingo card. But both of those guys are outstanding. |

I think I'm just mainly excited that we can even talk about being on even-footing with them in some areas. |
Anyone have a good stream for Canada/Finland?
|
|
USA’s defense certainly wasn’t making those mistakes that Finland just did on Saturday
|
I'd like to curl up in the sack naked with Jackie Redmond and and listen to her analyze an entire season of NHL hockey.
|
Canada’s collective speed is proving too much for Finland to deal with
|
So gonna be quite the title game on Thursday...

Pulling the soft Marner off of the top 2 lines is working for them, Point and Stone are a much better fit with McDavid
|
Quote:
He can score with Makar but seems to be a steadier defensive presence than Makar is. He's incredible and more and more people seem to finally be noticing. Like I said, I didn't see that one coming at all. I thought he'd be a good player but I didn't have him becoming the best defenseman in the NHL and he's very much on his way there if he isn't already. |
****ing Binnington...
|
Crosby saves Canada (again)
No faith in this team beating USA with this goalie though |

That intro was ****ing fantastic.

Hopefully the good guys will prevail.

I follow hockey, specifically Capitals, just not as much as NFL or MLB. This tournament is an amazing marketing success by the NHL to take an all-star game that nobody gives a shit about like NFL or NBA and turn an exhibition into some crazy event that people are actually watching. Crazy. Kudos.

Three skaters from Arizona is kind of wild.

They should have just starting fighting Wayne Gretzky after the hand-shakes.

leave wayne out of it fight eric lindros instead lol.

An All-Star game where the players actually play. gotta love it.
|
BOOM!!! We weathered the storm. Can't believe we're outshooting them, seems like 15-5 in favor of the state of Canada.
