My wife thinks about LRZ while we're having sex.

I hope he does well for us.

Rees-Zammit’s best moment during the minicamp occurred Sunday. On this rep, the offense executed everything perfectly. The play was designed for Rees-Zammit: a screen pass to the right side of the field.
“It’s amazing,” Rees-Zammit said while smiling and laughing. “When there’s open field, I feel like I’m playing rugby again. I can use my awareness when I’m in space and that’s when I can cause the most damage. The more I can do that, the more I can help the team.”

Rees-Zammit smoothly caught the pass from quarterback Chris Oladokun in rhythm and quickly accelerated upfield, sprinting past midfield in a running style that still appears more similar to rugby than football — shorter steps than long strides, the ball held higher and closer to his chest than the average running back and his torso upright rather than learning forward.
“I was sort of picking at him a little bit,” Oladokun said of Rees-Zammit. “You just see Louis running down the field in his little rugby run.”
No defender touched Rees-Zammit because they couldn’t. He maintained his speed while evading multiple defenders, making two cuts that led to him having a clear path to enter the end zone, a rep that ended in a 60-yard touchdown.
“I thought he was going to dive in the end zone,” Reid joked while laughing. “He’s done a good job of working on holding the ball. (Rugby players) do hold it a little bit different, a bigger ball and not quite as pointy as a football. He’ll learn the pad level the first time he gets hit.
“I like the fact that he’s got shorter steps initially. That’s a good thing as a running back. If you’re a long strider in there, you’ve got to really work on making it through those tight (running lanes). He seems to have a nice feel, though.”
Quote:

Growing up in Penarth, Wales, Rees-Zammit learned about the NFL from Joseph Zammit, his father who became so passionate about the sport that he played in the British American Football Association in 1987 for the Cardiff Tigers as a receiver and running back. Rees-Zammit often watched NFL games alongside his father. As his own passion for the NFL grew, Rees-Zammit said one of his favorite players was receiver DeSean Jackson, who played 15 seasons in the league and began his career under Reid with the Philadelphia Eagles.
“From the age of probably 11 or 12, I used to watch (Jackson’s highlights) on YouTube all the time,” Rees-Zammit said. “He was definitely one where his speed was absolutely outrageous. His change of direction was unbelievable.
“Every Sunday, I’d be staying up late,” Rees-Zammit said. “Obviously, the time difference is five to six hours. My dad is a massive mentor for me and a role model. I achieved everything I wanted to in rugby, so I thought now was the perfect time.”
Quote:

When he wasn’t catching passes or exerting himself in training exercises, Rees-Zammit said he spent as much time as he could next to Mahomes and Oladokun, asking as many questions as he could to learn about the running back and receiver positions and the many intricacies of the Chiefs’ offense. He also spent two weeks living alongside Oladokun in a rented house.
“I told my mom (Jennifer Carter) when I left Texas that I learned more about Louis in those two weeks than I probably know about my own brother (Jordan) — and me and my brother are super close,” Oladokun said. “I think (Rees-Zammit) has a really good personality, and I think he’s going to fit really well into the culture here. He’s been a professional athlete since he was 16. He’s going to be a great addition.”
Some new tidbits from Nate Taylor.

For reference, Tyreek runs a 10.19 100m…He ran a 10.4 which is impressive, but even more so given he’s also 5 inches taller and 35 pounds heavier than tyreek.

He was clocked 24.2 mph in a rugby match.

Definitely gonna have to be patient with this guy, zero immediate expectations... but his dad being so passionate about it, and getting him interested early in life bodes well

That IS weird. Does his wife tell him what she was thinking after he and LRZ are done, or is she in the room with them verbalizing a stream-of-consciousness monologue, like some sort of gay sex Tony Romo?

It’s an international model. Hangs in NYC. Tolerates us midwesterner’s because we are the cool team. LRZ is a very handsome man. Great shape and has the accent. He’s already doing pretty pretty good for himself.

Interesting thing I read today that chiefs may consider kicking off with rees zammit. New kickoff rules may benefit from a kicker who can tackle. It's not worth risking butker injury. Is it possible this dude both kicks and returns for us?

It's not that crazy. Justin reid was also mentioned as an option. Toub said kickers were involved in 25-40% of xfl kickoff tackles. I definitely would not want butker in that scrum where you can risk injury.

Dunerdr 05-30-2024 12:45 PM

Reid would make more sense but i seem to remember something about his leg being tired the few times he kicked. I'd rather have him at 100% as a safety. Teach Harry to push them towards the boundary until help arrives.

If Rees Zammit is worth a roster spot for other reasons, it’s a real intriguing option. Big if. Shouldn’t be hard to teach him how to kick off a tee. But yeah, if he isn't worth a spot id rather use butker in limited ways than use Reid

Fat Elvis 05-30-2024 03:07 PM

It would be pretty wild if Rees-Lightning was both our kick-off and return specialist....

Kiimo 05-30-2024 03:33 PM

It's funny the guy that people said would never make the team because he doesn't know how to play football is going to make the team at a position NOBODY knows how to play yet

He kicks it to himself quite a bit in rugby behind the opposition line , he’s perfect for this , if he can take/give a hit .

Love this!

Kiimo 07-10-2024 02:33 PM

I think people are going to be extremely surprised at his speed.

Like if a dude runs a 4.43 40 people will just simply write him off. Pretty good speed, nothing too special.

Um, I think he's just never trained for a 40 before. That's a specialized race. With coaches who do nothing but help prospects train for it.

This is a guy who ran 24.2 mph in a rugby match when the highest recorded mph in the NFL last season was 22.3

That is SIGNIFICANTLY faster they Tyreek ran all year. Like, hugely. I can't wait to see this guy in the preseason. If he returns a kick and goes yard the hype train will take off and fly like the end of BTTF 3

Kiimo 07-10-2024 03:36 PM

Just read this:

Quote:

"A bit disappointed in my 40," Rees-Zammit said afterward. "Last week, I was getting some really good times. I was getting low 4.3s, high 4.2s. So it is what it is. It's just what happens on the day. But I know I can run that fast. I'm not trying to make excuses or anything, but I know what I can do and I'm happy with the day and how the day went."

Chiefs got a 6-3 runningback for pennies who is faster than De'Von Achane

kiss the rings, feels weird to say it but there it is

I am going to draft him first overall in fantasy!!!!

Megatron96 07-10-2024 04:44 PM

I'm wondering if Andy will try to use him in a similar fashion to how he used McKinnon. Offensively, not in pass pro. It seems likely, given his quickness and speed. Would like to see him incorporated into the passing game as soon as practical.

Kiimo 07-10-2024 04:52 PM

lol saphojunkie picked him up in dynasty this morning. $127 out of a year-long $1000 budget.

He bid against nobody

NFL players also have pads.

I mean true but I don't think pads, especially NFL pads make much difference.

Jordan Mailata is the Eagles left tackle and probably the best former rugby player. Dude just signed a 66m dollar contract extension

Over the weekend I happened to find an interview of a couple pro rugby players talking about LRZ from a couple months ago. Looked like they were on some British rugby show or podcast. Anyway, they were really excited for him. Haing trouble locating that clip, but here's a different one that kind of gives a behind-the-scenes look at what it took for LRZ to get to the NFL

There's multiple episodes apparently. I only watched this one, so far.

I doubt it. McKinnon can pick up a pass rush. Something tells me that will keep Louie on the special teams or gadget plays at most.

We'll find out what's what when the pads come on in camp I guess

Is it Q? I didn't look. Sorry if so.

I think all the episodes are actually on YT already. I was going to try and watch the rest of them over the weekend, if they were interesting enough.

Saw all those episodes right after KC signed him. Never knew that program existed, but thought it was a good series.

Sorry, I was being genuine. I forgot we're supposed to be snide and condescending. I've been watching them now and they're good even though Pioli appears in episode 4. Thanks for posting it.

Lol, no worries. I just figured after I already posted the vid that someone else probably beat me to it by a couple weeks or whatever. Kind of my karma.:thumb:

Does Womble like this guy? I know there's that weird thing where English people deep down believe the Welsh are all baby-eating cavemen who talk funny

IA_Chiefs_fan 07-10-2024 09:13 PM

My gut tells me he's not really going to have any sort of impact, at least not this year. It could be fun as hell to watch if I'm wrong though.

He played rugby. Pretty sure he'll be able to handle the pass rush.

Kiimo 07-10-2024 10:12 PM

i’m not saying he isn’t tough I’m saying blocking somebody in football pads is a skill that takes a couple years at least. It would be incredible if I’m wrong though so I’m rooting to be wrong

I think he'll turn out to be a better player and more impactful than the Sippio's, Grigsby's that came before him but a pro bowler? Not seeing that. He still has to learn the game.

He has been coming to the us for years to work on football skills even before the athway program , if I heard him correctly.

That’s how I see it. If blocking were that easy, all RBs would be good at it. Blocking well is an art that not every RB can do well.

I watched something on YouTube about why the heir to the British throne gets the title Prince of Wales and essentially it’s a big F-U to the Welsh people by the English.

The difference between Louie and all the other camp heroes is he has truly rare talents. You can't teach that kind of speed.

Like, it's one thing cheering on a hard worker with a cool story built on hope. It's another when a dude is out there running faster than Tyreek and demonstrating great hands. Those two things alone change the narrative of Camp Hero storylines.

Some things he'll potentially immediately contribute to by dint of being an athlete, some because of the new rules. But there's a LOT he needs to learn. He's fast but not sure he's quick, routes will take time and he may not have the agility If he's a RB blocking IS going to be a massive challenge for him. Every rugby player has to be physical but he's a winger, the smallest guy bar the scrum half. Smashing people backwards isn't really his game.

If he makes it as a returner, and I think he might, I'd take that as a MASSIVE win.

RealSNR 07-11-2024 03:09 PM

I'm not concerned about the transition to a different sport. The Chiefs turned Demetrius Harris into an actual TE with only about one year of practice squad and/or riding the pine.

He probably won't be a star in year one, but I'll bet the Chiefs will do everything they can to keep him around. By his second season, I'll bet he'll be a really nice player to have.

You're going to have to define "these guys"

Players from a completely different sport? I just brought up Demetrius Harris, and the other guy who's vaguely similar even though it's not really a different sport is Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. If it's just those two, CP is batting 1.000

They play games in London so it’s just to drum up
Interest for the locals here.

The guy is atrocious - has no clue how to play the game but that’s not the reason he’s been claimed by the Jags.

I'd love to let him get a year of football under his belt on the PS and see what happens next offseason, but it is what it is.

BWillie 08-28-2024 02:47 PM

He came in playing an entirely different sport. Was never gonna be in the cards.

Why Not? 08-28-2024 03:00 PM

Even the dudes who have no clue what they are doing who get cut by us are sought after by other teams.

BlackHelicopters 08-28-2024 03:39 PM

Dislike hearing this.

Straight, No Chaser 08-28-2024 03:52 PM

Well, I was going to ask anyone here if they thought he would end up on the PS... which would have been the best solution. Kid is smart. Tough to try to make it on team alpha when you have no experience, even if you look like Tom Cruise.

Looks like Pederson wants to milk him for info.

DaFace 08-28-2024 04:20 PM

Odd. Wonder if it was our choice or his.

Hark Clunt 08-28-2024 04:48 PM

he deserves props for even trying tbh. a year on the PS might have helped him, but he's probably not worth taking up a spot. the only thing he has going for him is base athleticism, but you can find that anywhere.
