Why is bearcat yelling at us? We were just talking burgers.
|
I eat fast food once per month. To binge on 5 guys
Even then I get the little cheeseburger and little fries. They are excellent 100% of the time |

I'll go to Gladstone Bowl and get a burger before I'll step inside 5 turds that's a mile from my home. He'll I got a better burger at IHOP than 5 turds because kids wanted pancakes.
He'll Waffle House serves a better burger and they are everywhere. Sent from my SM-G986U1 using Tapatalk |
The Habit in CA is worthy of inclusion.
Is Backyard Burger still around? I used to enjoy their burgers and waffle fries back in the early 2000s, but all of the stores near us (Olathe/OP) went out of business years ago. |

I haven't had some of these...
I will say In-n-Out is super over-rated. bleh I'd say the BEST I've had on the list is Five Guys. Culver's is also pretty solid. My Favorite changes over the years, but currently it's Wendy's. Because it's cheaper, has a drive-through, is rarely busy, and is super close to my home and work. Whataburger coming soon to MetroNorth, so that will be interesting.... I've not had it yet. |
Someone tell me about Arctic Circle. Ive never heard of it
|
The local mom and pops are still better than any on this list and their not chains. Very few chains I can stand. I loved Whataburger in Texas and Oklahoma but the ones that have opens in KC area don't seem to have it down yet.

Back in the day there was none better for me than Four Winds in Cusseta, Ga.
Ranger burger, pound of meat, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion with fries and a sweet tea for $5.25. Even further back in the day it was Calvin's Hamburger Haven in Wichita, Ks. Way back when it was in a old shack on the corner of Harry and Seneca. Nothing compares now as I can make anything better than I can order. |

Think I only went a handful of times as it was a bit of a drive for me and of course a bit pricey after having all of the above. |
Steak and Shake checks all the boxes. It wins.

They had killer truffle fries and onion rings as well. Man, that place was the tits. |
Who has a good mushroom and swiss burger now? I remember long ago Hardee's had an awesome before they went to hell.
|
I completely forgot about Blanc Burgers somehow. That blue cheese stuffed burger was so good. I remember those miniature shopping carts they served the fries in as well. Definitely pricey but so worth it.
|
I liked Freddy's Patty Melt till they went to crap during the pandemic and have not rebounded.

I never got to Blanc Burger before they disappeared but Soren Petro raved about them. He should know he looks like he eats many burgers now.
|
Wallburger is another that seems to have opened everywhere and quickly went. Did Donnie Mama kick it?

I like that Whataburger is open 24 hours and you can sit inside at 4 a.m.
The Patty Melt is so freaking good. |
Freddy’s followed by 5 guys. They’re actually pretty equal on that list.
|
Y'all that don't like 5 guys WTF? Their bacon is the shit too.

What’s your favorite burger from a restaurant that isn’t a chain?
I like the burnt end burger from Q39. |
I understand the love of five guys, I truly do, but I chose in n out. Five guys is great, but in n out just has some weird attraction to me that I just enjoy. Five guys I feel like I just ate an entire cow. In n out, the animal fries, the entire experience I just find more enjoyable BUT I’ll say the quality of five guys is hard to beat and that’s coming from a guy who lives in California and has an abundance of in n out chains. Even writing this I may even want to change back to five guys because my mouth is watering, it’s that close
|
I just don't get the five guys' love, it's so bland to my tastebuds. To each their own but its just not my thing.
|
Count me in for not being a fan of Five Guys. Now I’ve only had it once but that’s because it was probably the most greasy food I’ve ever been served.

I went to a five guys late at night (early on in my five guys experience) I hated it. Young college kid cooking it, zero care…. Never went back there.. I go to a few other locations that like I said, have adults cooking it, and I get a ton of toppings, man it’s pretty damn good. |

I voted In-N-Out, IOW. |
I like 5 guys, but it's mainly because of their fries. I don't dislike their burgers, its not like they are in n out boring but they aren't great. They need bacon.
|
For the price of a Five Guys burger, I'd at least expect a BJ from a 5 on the side.

Fritz's is worth mentioning.
I don't see how Burger King is still in business. I pass by a couple of them a few times a week and the lots are always empty. Maybe one car in drive thru. |

On the bright side, I think they do offer value with some of their low end items. |

With some mayo, mushrooms, and some pico, it was the best sandwich I have ever had, especially if the steak was cooked to a good medium rare. Sent from my LM-V600 using Tapatalk |

There is no other option. The Q39 BE burger is the best overall burger on earth. No debate. |

Add in the atmosphere of the store (so loud they can't hear you order if you scream at them from 2 feet away) and it's just not a good experience at all. |
What the ****? You must have a dogshit Five Guys near you. I don't even know what you mean by the "atmosphere of the store" since here it's pretty much quiet except for calling out orders.

I went with Culver’s. I just had Freddy’s for the first time last year when I was in MO. It was really damn good, like Steak n Shake should be/used to be. If I’d have had a few more of their burgers I may have been swayed. But I’m sticking with Culver’s.
|
What is loud about the 5 Guys near you, htismaqe? Music, people, equipment?
I've been to a few 5's in Tulsa and OKC and they are pretty quiet. |
Quote:
The music is loud, the exhaust fans are louder, and the customers are forced to up the volume to overcome it, making it just over the top. |

The more I think about the BK whopper, the more they move up on the list.
Not greasy, the place by me always has fresh lettuce, tomato and bun. |

You either live in the sticks or have horrible taste. |

Burger King does pretty well in that respect. A place like Wendy's leans too heavily on sauces and extras. |

Besides, it doesn't matter. Sooner or later it all turns to shit anyway. |

I've found BK, Carl's Jr., and Wendy's to be wildly inconsistent from store-to-store.
Freddy's and 5 Guys have always been on point. |
Freddy's cheeseburger with extra pickles for me. I love those crunchy steak bits.
|
Freddy’s is the best true fast food drive thru burger for me. And their shoestring fries and fry sauce are also great. I like Red Robin for a casual burger place as well.
But Wendy’s has by far the best value menu. The 4 for $4 is unbeatable and the $5 bag gets you a bit more fries and bigger sandwich and still a very good value. |
