Cane sauce is legit.

Really? There is only one Arthur Treachery's left. It was once a chain of 800+.

I would love to see a comeback.

I voted for Cane's. Honestly, I probably like Popeye's just as much, but it's simply too far away. Cane's is close and everyone in the house loves it. Also, their iced tea is consistently excellent.

Edit: I know nothing of their publicity. They literally don't advertise around here as they really don't have to.

I could swear I read they were planning to branch out again. Are you sure only one is left I thought they were still around back east?

Quite sure.

I actually was reading about them today once researching for the polls.

https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/...ck-during-lent

However, Nathan's Famous is trying to bring the brand back. As first, it will be a ghost kitchen operation but they are hoping to bring back free standing locations.

That's probably what I read. Nathans also bought Kenny Rodgers Roasters then turned around and sold it to Indonesian food service.

The Thrillist had an article about it.

If you hear anything else, please send it to me. A chain comeback is always exciting.

I give Chick-fil-A strong marks on quality. I do think the operation is top notch, the restaurants are clean and the food is good stock and doesn't give you post-meal symptoms.

But if I had the munchies and I wanted to scarf down chicken, it wouldn't be close to the top of my list.

redfan 08-30-2022 07:07 AM

In KC, it's Go Chicken Go or gtfo. Honorable mention goes to Stroud's.

Yeah, I am a fan of Gus's

I'm right there with you. I've had it multiple times, multiple locations and I don't see the attraction. It's not bad, there's nothing wrong with it. But I don't understand the attraction that creates super long lines, at least by me, out of the parking lot and onto the road.

They opened one in New Jersey and a friend of mine wanted to go. I took one look at the menu and said, no way. They might have good chicken but their food looks like ass in pictures. Maybe it's just the location here, but I have no desire even try it.

Not a chain, but absolutely worth mentioning for KC chicken.. Poio Mexican BBQ. Highly recommend.

Gus's seemed more like the old school original recipe from KFC, bit of a change from all the others that go for crunchy breading.

Chick-fil-a is the best.

Popeyes is good, too much breading.

The local Wendy's kicks ass at their spicy and homestyle sandwiches.

Get the fried chicken, adobo rice and a side of gravy and then report back. The mango pies are also incredible.

There's a Zaxby's near my work. When it opened it made some noise with its specials. Now it's barely an afterthought.

Apparently...

Quote:

the name “Poio” is a play on words.

“The Spanish word for ‘chicken’ is pollo, spelled p-o-l-l-o,” he explained, noting that the double “L” in Spanish often mimics the “Y” sound in English. “But English speakers unfamiliar with the Spanish language will pronounce the word as pol-lo.”

In order to have everyone pronounce the restaurant’s name the same way, Mortera landed on “Poio” — which is also a reflection of growing up around both English and Spanish, he added.

Regardless, the chicken is phenomenal..

srvy 08-30-2022 06:40 PM

They are within blocks of each other and in competition so had to differ a bit.

Lot of good places in Armourdale and great Mexican grocers. Bicklemyer meats just many people are scared of the area.

crayzkirk 08-30-2022 06:41 PM

I voted Popeyes. Like the spicy plus the red beans and rice. Don't eat out much anymore.

Canes, that I had, was terrible. Never had Chik-Fil-A or whatever it is, seems like a processed chicken breast isn't real chicken. Had fond memories of Kentucky Fried Chicken before the name change.

Best was Grandma's fried chicken. Cooked in lard, of course. With apple pie for dessert. Crust made with the same lard. Growing up, we had home fried chicken almost every Sunday night. Didn't have mashed potatoes, bread with home made gravy. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmm...

I am surprised nobody mentioned Costco roasted chicken. People stand in a line waiting for them to come out of the roaster. As fast as they are set out poof gone. It has to be one of the KC Metro evening dinner staples.

Sam's does the same thing. I think it's a competition between them. Who will blink first to raise the price from $4.99.

Poor people food

Chicken
Rice
Potatoes
Peanut butter
Crackers
Candy
Canned soup
Bread
Cereal
Potato chips
Pretzels
Spaghetti
Anything frozen (outside shrimp)
Anything canned
Cigarettes (people use these to suppress appetite)
Anything inside a 7-11 or quiktrip

Eat any of this and you’re white trash

KCUnited 08-30-2022 08:37 PM

Someone want to clue him in on who eats Red Lobster?
