Little over a year. Sold my 1979 CJ5 to purchase the bronco. I'm keeping it as original as possible

Solid trade imo! I had a 79 cj7 before i could drive. Dad bought it for 400 with a 350. Hadn’t run in 10 years. Mom made us sell it lol.

I’ve always had a soft spot for fj’s and broncos.

Vintage Broncos with the SFA, yes, but that TTB crap Ford started using is hot garbage.
Toyota axles are surprisingly strong for such small differentials. From what I've read they hold up very well to an SBC's weight and torque as long as you keep it sane. A mild 350 and 35" tires is about as extreme as you want to go.

My dad’s got a 307 and th350 sitting on a pallet for his. It’s crazy high geared with the 33s on the road. We looked at different transmission options like a t5 to get a lower first for stopping and starting but economically speaking the 700$ known running driving sbc and th350 will be about 70% the cost of most anything else. I wanted to keep it a standard but the auto was cheap and available.

Price and availability beats what if's every time.
I get it, I'm a gear cruncher myself but from what you've posted about the terrain you wheel in an automatic trans is probably the better choice anyway.

In all reality that thing and the high boys will probably never see any real wheelin. Side by sides have stole the show.

Truth. I've seen those UTV's doing stuff, especially at Disney, that left the rock buggy guys cussing their financial choices.

To be fair, back in the early 2000's a lifted Yota on 33's was badass.
The build shows kinda screwed that one up because after that point if you didn't have Dana 60's, UniMog or Rockwell axles and 44" tires you were peewee league.

Dunerdr 04-25-2025 07:54 AM

That is true lol. Little four cylinder wouldn’t do 65 with them though lol.
