Also...when he's here there are 4, 4k tvs in the house. There are a few things that will spike the **** out of your net usage.
4k streaming will do it, 4k streaming will use about 7-8 gigs an hour. Online gaming and all that is small peanuts really but when you get into digital gaming where you have to download things that will absolutely wreck your usage. |

Sep: 1,303 Oct: 1,553 Nov: 1,393 Dec: 1,301 Still 10 days left for December..... I'm sure my kids can get another 80-100GB in there before then. |
OP
Who is your internet provider? I have Comcast and.with internet service only you can get "FleX" for free. Flex allows you to access comcast's library plus Pandora, Netflix plus Prime from one source using XFinitiy's voice remote. It does bring in 4g streaming. Just but the internet service that's right for you and only use 1 interface. https://www.xfinity.com/learn/flex Just my 2 cents |

But given that the only thing I use it for are the ESPN channels $50 seems expensive. Occasionally watch hockey on NBCSn. Thought about Sling but with extras for the DVR and NBCSn wasn’t sure the savings were worth it. |
If you know someone who still keeps cable.....parents, friend, sibling etc. Offer them something to use their cable account to stream things.
My parents can use my Netflix, Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ in exchange for that they gave me the login and password to their cable account so all of those apps can be used for free like regular ESPN channels, fox, nbc, abc, mtv, vh1, comedy central as long as it's part of their cable you can login to the app with their cable stuff. If said person has Comcast you can take it further, on the newer Rokus comcast has a beta app where you can use the roku like the cable box so you could get live cable with the info. But reality offer a trade, it's something that has been great for my family. |

I have an OTA antenna in each room. (The first one I paid waaay too much for - like 30$. Soon found out the 8$ antenna works every bit as well.) Your TV picture will be MILES better with an antenna. It's amazing what the picture look like when it isn't being sent through 6000 miles of cable or beamed thru a sat. Plus for games in your area, you'll be 35 seconds ahead of anybody with cable/sat. We have Netflix, but I barely use it. If there's a game on that I have to watch, I'll find a stream and hook it to any TV with HDMI. Also, I'm not a gamer so I don't worry about data caps. We play actual board games and cards. We have our house pretty much set up with echo devices and Hue lighting which all runs through the router or wifi. And still I don't have any issues streaming with all the devices in play. (26 total echo, HUE, various KASA plugs and switches garage, and locks. and security cams. 40$ for internet and whatever for Netflix. I refuse to give cable any money. |
If you're into things like echos and HUE and even the camera's that stuff doesn't pull a whole lot of wifi.

<1% of what I use each month on each device. Yea, I know. Especially when it's hard wired in.
|
I gave up. Xfinity lowered my bill by 50%( $300 to $150)? 2 year deal.
I can cancel if I pay them 2 months ($300). They are the only provider that can get me over 100mbps and adding TV to the internet service is $50.00 per month And bonus we get a land line we do not use I have NFL Sunday ticket stream using my kids college info thru att ($100 for the year). I gave up on trying free streams. Virus and ad block protection was a PITA to over ride. |
Bit of advice for cable internet service, buy your own cable modem and router from best buy, Amazon, etc. Mine paid for itself in less than a year for what my cable company wanted to charge for leasing their equipment.

I too have been experimenting with cutting cord. We tried YouTube tv for a month acted like we didn’t still have google fiber. YouTube tv worked fairly well once you get accustomed to picking channel from guide and waiting for slight pause for stream to start. Unlimited DVR was nice but they call it add to library.
We stopped trial after 30 days when we started finding certain shows that were blocked like one chiefs game day shows on KMBC, also some Xmas shows etc. would say cannot be watched or streamed over internet we were a bit turned off by that even though the subscription included the local channels. We could get around it by using antenna and then using OTA DVR but then have to use two apps and manage 2 DVR which is not out of the question yet but looking at alternatives. I’m going to try Hulu+ next. |
Has anyone even mentioned the Pluto TV app yet?

A couple of years ago we switched from Directv to Sling. Saved a lot of money but didn’t love the service. Then YouTube tv came out and we switched to that. Really liked it except for no NFL network and the app would freeze on my lg tv and I would have to reboot the Tv. We have always had Xfinity internet. They offered a good deal for two years for tv and internet so I canceled YouTube tv. After the two years is up I’ll probably go back to YouTube tv

Update: After installing my outdoor antenna, I get 61 OTA channels. That along with Roku and Philo gives me more content than I could possibly ever watch. The only thing I'm missing is ESPN and NFLN, which I hardly ever watch anyway. I will miss Colleen and Kay, but I'm saving $80 a month. I should have done this a long time ago

I miss NFLN too. You could consider getting the Hulu, Disney+, ESPN+ bundle for $12.99 a month to satisfy your ESPN needs. All 3 of those for that price isn't too bad.

Keep in mind that ESPN+ is not the same thing as ESPN. With ESPN+, you will not get the live games that are broadcast on ESPN/ESPN2/etc, like Monday Night Football. ESPN+ isn't really worth much at all.
Also, Mobdro doesn't run on Roku, so you'd have to cast it to the Roku using an Android device.... |

And once they have market share they will start jacking up the price. |
