The lead actor seems much more believable than Tom Cruise; his first movie was okay and I didn't bother with the second one... |

I love season 1 of this as it really followed the book to a T and it is how I always pictured Jack Reacher to be when reading the book. Can't wait for Season 2. |

As the Critical Drinker calls it, definitely a delicious bacon cheeseburger show. |
One of the movies was on the other night and it was so terrible it took me about 3-4 minutes to determine that it wasn't in fact satire and I'm supposed to believe a 5ft 6inch 140lbs Tom Cruise it out there smoking guys twice his size.

Just in case I haven't mentioned this before - Rosamund Pike is hot as the surface of the sun in that movie.

Compare it to the visceral violence of the Amazon series and yeah, it's nowhere near as convincing. But again - when it's Cruise, I just shut up and eat my popcorn. |

The show is fun to watch, but yeah the writing is just outright awful in some parts. Too much goofy cliched nonsense.
Like when he was a kid, his entire family called him by his last name? LOL. The constant "Big guy" references. The absurd way he makes a bunch of assumptions in tracking down people and things. Definitely a lot of cringe. |

It's shit like that that just kills a show/movie for me. |

It's doing that network television detective show shit where they are just WAY too omniscient in their guesswork. I hate that shit. "Well he has gin in his fridge {insert 7 degrees of nonsense}...HE'S HIDING IN A YURT IN ANTARCTICA!!!" Too many massive stretch plot devices so far. It's dumb even by dumb entertainment standards. I hope it improves. |

The difference here is the difference between good episodes of Sherlock and bad ones. Obviously Holmes intuition is essentially the entire character. And when they had a great episode (Reichenbach) they demonstrated it in a fairly natural manner; definitely gripping if nothing else. But when it's bad, they just hammer it in there (His Last Vow). I understand the need to do it as that's part of the character. But there's a way to do it well and better written shows have. Hell, this one did it better last season. Thus far it's just been forced in, IMO. |

I laughed out loud when Robert Patrick said "Who gives a shit??" when he was asked who Sarah Connor was.
This show ain't Shakespeare in the Park, but it's like a big sloppy cheeseburger when you're starving and don't want to eat healthy. |
This latest episode was as bad as a 70's cop show or the old westerns.
Spoiler!

Everybody saying "Hey, Swan's dirty" and Reacher won't admit it. So you KNOW he isn't. It's just a matter of giving us the 'twist' that proves that Reacher was right all along. I don't mind a damn competent protagonist but the problem with Reacher's infallibility is that it becomes a Chekov's Gun of sorts. His unwavering belief in Swan gives the story away because you know he's going to be proven right in the end. |

I'll watch the rest of this season but I doubt I'll invest much time in any more of it. |
Have to agree with both of you. This season has been a complete let down and I loved the first season. It was great even if some of the things you guys mentioned happened a bit in that season as well. The first season just seemed to work. It is almost like the writers just dialed it in on this one.
|
I blame the writers strike.
Hopefully the next one is better. |
ya this season sucks, can't get even get past the first two episodes
loved the first season, bummer |
I'm enjoying season 2 and I think it's great.
|
The cheese and invincibility of the good guys is definitely ramped up a bit but I’m still enjoying it.
|
I still enjoy it for what it is, but yes, they need to put a little more effort into the writing. Unfortunately I think that's a symptom of many TV shows and movies these days. Writing talent seems to be lacking.

And have I pointed out how hot Dixon is yet? https://th.bing.com/th/id/OIP.qx761A...pid=ImgDetMain https://th.bing.com/th/id/OIP.n94zr5...pid=ImgDetMain Neagley is packing some heat, as well https://www.12thblog.com/wp-content/...7-683x1024.jpg |
The fact that Amazon refuses to give me a little gratuitous nudity with Dixon just makes me angry.
My word she's good lookin' And there isn't a look she couldn't pull off. You want upscale professional? Done. Insecure secretary - she'll rock a 9.5 there. Slutty nurse/stripper - she'd kill it. Total package of hot. |

To steal Buehler's line - I'd win wars for her. |

Dixon
I don't really need to expand on anything already said above. Just wanted to show support. |
Last couple eps have been meh.
|
They did get me with the "I'll tear out your trachea and your last thought will be 'holy shit he actually did it'." line. I laughed pretty hard at that.

I'll take that every time over the writers deciding to go off the reservation. This show is ****ing great. Not because it is well written, but because it isn't and they lean fully into just how bad it is. Which makes it awesome. |

I got taken out of the movie. That's never a good thing. Here they've just gotten SO murdery that it took me out of the show. This has become obligation watching. I'd far prefer spend an hour on Foundation instead. This just isn't very good. |
The last episode didn't do what they thought it would.
But I'll watch Reacher **** shit up all the time. |
Quote:
And even battered and bloody. Dixon is still a damned smokeshow. Dammit, girl. |
It wasn't amazing, but the finale did enough box-checking for me. Enjoy the overall story. Onto Season 3
|
I'm hoping for 2 things out of season 3. One, better writing which we've talked about. Two, he doesn't need to be so big. I might be in the minority, but I thought he was big enough in the first season. He was much slower/plodding in this season. He seemed winded half the time.
|

The action was better in S1 even if the final battle was a little over the top. But I’ll watch that dude crush fools any time. |
I thought this season was kinda flat.

I'll watch the next season but JFC the damn God mode bullshit has taken it down from a solid 9 to a 7.
|
I keep reminding myself as I watch it that it's not that type of show, but the logic holes still bothered me. Particularly at the end. The only thing dumber than Reacher turning himself in was T-1000 not immediately shooting him in the head when he did. Especially once he found out Neagley was alive.
It might have made sense if they had something T-1000 needed, but all it was is that he "didn't like loose ends". He could have just left early for the meeting with arms dealer and been totally fine. |
I'm not going to say anything bad about it; for me, the first season was something that I looked forward to each episode and after watching the first two episodes of season two, I've completely forgotten that it's on at all.

Finally watched the last two episodes. Could've been better. Occurred to me that Reacher is basically Mack Bolan (maybe someone else has read the Mack Bolan: The Executioner series by Pendleton). Trashy action books along the lines of Marvel's The Punisher. Same kind of shallow writing, but was a fun read for me in my teens.
|
Wasn't as good a season one, but I was entertained.
|
Reacher is the #2 streaming show, #1 original. Young Sheldon is somehow #1 overall.

I’ve read all of Lee Child’s Reacher novels, and I think it’s just like anything else. The movie is never going to be as good as the book.
I sit through the whole movie, comparing it with the book, and I can’t enjoy it. Killers of the flower moon was the same way. I hate watching movies that I have read the book. sec |
