I shouldn't have said 'position'. And the BJs traded a first round pick for him, and him and Panarin will be UFAs at the end of the year, along with Bobrovsky. |

Watch out, the Avalanche have won 4 in a row and they're now in the last wild card spot, because... well, someone has to be.

That Pen's v. Flyers game was fun!

I don't know if they'll make the playoffs, but one team that is better than their record is the Buffalo Sabres. I saw the Lightning play them last Thursday. The Sabres lead 1-0 through two periods and then the Lightning finally tied it in the third period and then a scoreless overtime, but the Lightning prevailed in the shootout. I was very impressed with the Sabres goalie Hutton.
Last night was some game, the outdoor show in Philly. I turned it off with about 8 minutes to go and Penguins up 3-1, can't stand the Penguins. I couldn't believe this morning's paper, Flyers came back and tied it and then won in overtime. I've been wearing this on the golf course the last two weeks. https://lf.lids.com/hwl?set=sku[2101...;file:product] |

Their previous GM ****ed them over with Chiarelli level bad trades and it will be at least 3 years until they can be considered a threat in the Eastern Conference. BTW - I hate the city of Buffalo. When it's not covered in snow, it's covered in pigeon shit. It's an ugly and depressing place to drive though let alone live in, however, I do respect their hockey fans. They are tried and true and deserve better. Only 3 more years 'till they lose in the Cup finals to Seattle. Tampa sucks too. |

Buffalo is really nice for about 45 days of the year

Allen better work out some more of his issues if he wants to stay at this level. That shorthanded goal was just stupid.
I feel bad for him, but at some point he's got to get it worked out or the Blues need to find a better backup to B. |
Jake 'Alex Smith' Allen.
It's ****ing uncanny. |

NBC is seriously obsessed with the Blues, Preds, and Wild this year.... along with the usual Caps, Rangers, and Flyers.
|
At this point I'd rather see the Yotes make the playoffs over the Avalanche... I could at least catch a playoff game live instead of half-assed watching the Avalanche fail in the playoffs in the same way they've been failing (in general) for years.

What a weird season for the Avs. Started out insanely hot. Then looked like shit for two months. And now they're hot again. Guess we'll see what the playoffs hold. |
Anyone up for a bracket challenge this year? A random dude on reddit created a super simple way to do it. If you're in, join here (no account creation required):
Join My League in the 2019 NHL Bracket Contest! 1. Create a bracket here: https://cliambrown.com/bracket2019/ 2. Copy your secret edit link, and then paste it here: https://cliambrown.com/bracket2019/league/join/c7vjprb3 You can check out the league members & results here: https://cliambrown.com/bracket2019/league/r4sb7 I also added the instructions to the OP. |
My favorite thing about that site is it gives you a super simple link to share your bracket. So...here's mine. (Avs optimism acknowledged.)

If the Preds can get the D core to play the way they did in the 2017 playoffs they will be a tough out. If not, tough to see them getting past the 2nd round. They were such a flaky team this season. I think the Blues get past the Jets in a long, tough, close series and will be a difficult match for the Preds if they are able to get by the Stars. They have been on a tear in 2019. The Avs are going to give Calgary fits, I think the Flames have them but not by much and it won't surprise me if DaFace is right and the Avs take them down. But I think the Sharks take whoever wins that series. Looking forward to Boston/TML, that to me is the most exciting looking series in the round.Looking forward to Wednesday.

I've watched just about every minute of every Lightning game since the beginning of February, that's about 25 and I've only seen them outplayed four games. One was Boston, and TB got them back 6-3 last Saturday with backup goalie Pasquale who was just called up. Stamkos even had a short-handed goal. Minnesota played a close checking game and won that game, but they're out now. The other was the Blues who won twice, they played a similar style and Tampa Bay couldn't score or even get into the offensive zone half the time. I think the scores were 1-0 and 3-2, that's the only team that worries me, I don't even think the Caps or the Penguins are much of a threat this year. I think the Lightning is a good pick, put your money on #86 and hope Nashville knocks out the Blues.

What the hell is this NHL bracket bullshit!?!? Participation trophy bracket NHL?
No points? No first place? No last place? How are we supposed to mercilessly berate the losers while the winners pat themselves on the back and convince themselves their geniuses? This is ChiefsPlanet!!! https://i.ibb.co/x86ctsk/Capture-1.png
via GIPHY
https://i.ibb.co/ynjvwxk/Camaro.jpg https://list25.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/24-2.jpg |
Huh? Of course there are winners and losers. And points.

This is kind of fun. That site aggregates everyone's picks, so here's a current view of what the hive mind collectively thinks is going to happen.

Total guessing game outside of I'm a Caps fan. And obviously I'm hoping for a high scoring series!

The defending Champ is here with his HOMER bracket so one of you other peasants can win this year.

After the complete collapse of the Blues last season, I found myself wondering if I was going to be a Blues fan this year. I've been a Blues fan since '84 or '85, and no matter what state I moved to over the years, I stayed a Blue note. But last year's playoff disaster really put a bad taste in my mouth.
Well, of course, I stayed a Blues fan for this year, but I've had no expectations for the team. I didn't even think they'd make the playoffs. And here they are. Since my indifference seems to be the lucky rabbit's foot for the team this season, I'm leaning towards cautious indifference for their chances in the playoffs. I'll ramp up to rabid, frothing-at-the-mouth Blues monkey when they get into the championship series. |

Cool find with the bracket Daface. I'll bet you can't wait 'till tomorrow when the Avs get Jack Hughes with Ottawa's pick in the draft lottery.

Really bummed about the Kings falling to 5 and missing out on Hughes/Kaako, but if Chicago would have been top 2 I would have lost my mind.

Looks like KC audiences are shut out of the game tonight since FS Kansas City has the Royals and the alternate has some racing stuff scheduled.

A couple of upsets last night, both by former Stanley Cup winning coaches with different teams.

It's refreshing not having a team in the playoffs this year. It doesn't take me an extra 45 minutes to fall asleep because I'm fired up from a close win or bad loss. It's like having a $20 bet on the Jets vs Texans, it's really hard to get too excited on the outcome.

All I hope for this NHL playoff season is for the Pens to lose is the worst possible fashion followed by their jet going down somewhere in the south where Sydney Crosby survives only to find himself jettisoned from the plane, unable to move, covered in condiments from a rogue serving tray during the decent on top of a fire ant hill.

Maybe next year Chiefs, uh, Flyers fans!
|
The first round of the NHL playoffs is easily the best. You get home and hockey is on for 5-6 hours every night until teams are eliminated.
Not sure if there are any Blues fans on this forum (I imagine most from KC are St.Louis fans if they follow hockey?) but Binnington's performance last night was godly. |
Avs looking calm and in control so far. Still just 0-0, but I like what I'm seeing.

Welp, not the Avs night. Figures a mediocre goalie would stand on his head against them.

Big ups to islanders crowd. That place was rocking. I don't know about the penz this year. They just don't look like they have it.

CBJ's just downed the Lightning 5-1 to go up 2-0 in the series. Insane.
Oh, and Kucherov is a ****ing idiot and is almost certainly going to be suspended for this bullshit.

|
As a Blues fan, it's refreshing to see the other team let down by their goaltender for a change.

Kadri got 2 games for a similar hit in last year's playoffs, although I doubt Kucherov will be punished as harshly.

It's not lookin' good for the Lightning right now. |
The combination of how awful the Blue Jackets looked late in the season (at least as far back as Duchene) and of course the Lightning's regular season dominance.... damn. But, there have been plenty of times where the home team goes down 0-2 and ties the series on the road.
