Seconded!

DaneMcCloud 05-02-2016 11:48 AM

I'm all for honoring Dave by changing the name of the Lounge but I'd prefer to that his original user name, BigChiefDave, be used instead of his current name, which only came into being after his cancer diagnosis.

I think that would be better.

Thank you everybody for donating to the GoFundMe. I'm amazed that I've raised almost $1,000. I can't thank you all enough.

We are a Family here at CP, Nick. Completely dysfunctional and pretty stange at times, but a family nonetheless. We take care of each other when it's needed.

Prayers to you and yours.

Just got a text from Reerun_KC (he's banned). He said he's sorry to hear the news about Dave. He matched my donation.

He also proceeded to talk trash on me, but that's nothing new and I won't post that here. :D

BWillie 05-02-2016 05:01 PM

Obviously didn't know him personally, but he seemed like one of the good guys here at CP. Always enjoyed what he had to say. I was always dreading this a thread like this when we all heard he had been diagnosed. He is definitely in our thoughts and best wishes to you and your family.

Gonzo 05-02-2016 05:10 PM

Hang in there Dave. All the best to you and your family. I renamed the lounge on your behalf buddy.

:sulk:Terrible news

Eleazar 05-02-2016 05:49 PM

I have always been impressed with the way Dave handled this. GBM is a tough diagnosis, but he never showed any sign of weakness here, and I doubt he ever did in real life either. He seemed to have a quiet courage and peace about him even as he faced down the longest of odds. I hope that if I ever am dealt something like this I could face it as well as Dave has.

listopencil 05-02-2016 05:49 PM

I'm going to throw this out as an option because I am somewhat familiar with what they do:

http://medcure.org/

You can look through their website and decide if this is something you want to consider. This a free service.

WilliamTheIrish 05-02-2016 06:08 PM

Dave,

It's been an honor to know you, even if it's just through our interactions on this message board. We laughed at the victories and seethed in the defeats. But in the end none of them matter when somebody who has grown into a friend has the sun set too early on his life.

I'll miss you Dave. May you travel quickly, and painlessly into the next life my friend.

May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day.
May songbirds serenade you every step along the way.
May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that’s always blue.
And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.

Iowanian 05-02-2016 07:53 PM

Very sorry to hear it.

I just got back from our 3rd family funeral visitation in 8 days. 2 were cancer including a 38 year old cousin.

Cancer is an asshole.

booger 05-02-2016 08:16 PM

So sorry to hear this. He's always been a lot of fun to chat with. Seems like a great fella in real life too from what I've read. Never had the pleasure to meet him. May God bless him and all his loved ones through his journey home. From my experience with a couple grandparents hospice folks are great. I pray that they make him as comfortable as possible.

Be proud of yourself young man. I know your dad is!! My grandpa was like my dad to and I watched as he went through this. It isn't the same, he was about 40 years older than your dad. Can't say I know exactly what your going through just that I can relate in a small way. Make sure you lean on your loved ones. There is plenty of folks here to lend an ear so don't hesitate to ask.

Take care young man

notorious 05-02-2016 08:42 PM

No.

Damnit.

CrazyPhuD 05-02-2016 09:00 PM

Time is the one thing that none of us will ever have enough of! Know the impact that you've had in many lives both online and in life. We may lose the ability to add new memories, but we shall always treasure the old ones. Godspeed on your journey, you will be missed.

Weirdest thing for me was that I have started counting backwards at 50. And it can get heavy.

LittleMeatballNick 05-02-2016 10:27 PM

The planet has raised about $900 in one day. I couldn't thank you all enough. This brings a great weight lifted off my shoulders when 2 days ago, the family was anxious on how we were gonna afford all of this. If we have 6 more days like today has gone, we will have the goal. I told my dad that the planet is helping raise the money and he thanked everybody. The hardest part is him not knowing why I am trying to raise it in the first place. Cancer Sucks. Keep sharing and donating. Thank you all. Go Chiefs.

dirk digler 05-02-2016 10:50 PM

Dartgod 05-03-2016 06:18 AM

I've been thinking about what to say here about this, and I'm still at a loss for words.

So, I'll just say that I'm praying for comfort for you and your family. Dave always seemed like a good guy, even though I don't think I ever interacted with him on a personal level. He is one of the Planet's originals and will be missed.

God Bless.

My Mom has Alzheimer's. She doesn't know who I or anyone else is anymore. Other than that she is in perfect health. I have basically lost her, at least what made her, her.

We will keep reminding the Planet to help out about the upcoming debt you will have.

Sry to hear about your mom. Both my grandparents on my mom's side got Alzheimers and that was tough. I visited my grandma once in the hospital. She couldn't even speak. All she could do was look at me and smile. I don't even know if she recognized me at that point. That was the one and only time I could do that. She didn't last long in there anyway. My poor grandpa had to be put into a home for the last couple years. He would have flashbacks and think it was the 1950s again. I pray that God makes the transition for your mother easier.

My grandmother went through something like that last year before she passed of wernicke's encephalopathy (she wasn't an alcoholic). She didn't know who any of us were, which was really rough, only 16 and experiencing that.

threebag 05-03-2016 10:21 AM

Before cancer got my mom she had a few good "rallies" in the hospital. It hurt to say goodbye but was great to see her still fighting it. Cancer sucks so much ass. Praying for no pain for Dave and peace for you and his family.

Yeah I agree. I think he became BigMeatballDave around the time where CP was discussing food... A lot. I think it was around the time Bugeater became Baconeater, PGM became Pasta Giant Meatball and Fire Me Boy became Fried Meatball. When I began posting, I believe his username was just, "Dave." I don't think I was around for the BigChiefDave username...but it's cool.

I have been going through this with my grandmother for the last several years unfortunately. She'll be 94 this year and is otherwise in perfect health. Cancer took my grandfather years ago and Alzheimers took away my grandmother. I have trouble thinking of two worse diseases.

My grandmother went through this years ago. It was very tough on my mother.

She lived in a nursing home for a couple of years before she passed and I visited her once after she moved in. I never went back. I felt a bit guilty about that afterwards, but to me, that was not my grandmother lying in that bed.

****ing Chiefs. All the NFL owners only care about money and we're all here putting all our emotions into a football team and they don't even legitimately try their best to win a Super Bowl for their fans. I'm in the same boat. I'm sorry you never got to enjoy a Chiefs Super Bowl.

Heaven is getting a great guy, the world is losing a great guy. May God bless you, the family and Dave during these trouble times. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. I'll see what funds I can send at the end of the week.
