Panthers passed on him.
Seahawks passed on him.
Pats passed on him.
Ravens passed on him.
SD passed on him.

etc.

Maybe Bowe really just wasn't that good anymore and everyone knew it? The only team that was willing to give him a starting job was the Browns.

Everyone around here is so invested in "Bowe was great our QB just sucked" that they refused to even consider other options.

So did the rest of the league just hate that Bowe pointed at his name on his jersey, or that he was black? Nope, the league doesn't think he's that good either or he would have ended up someplace besides the cleveland cesspool.

It's not just about what CP thinks.

Bowe is on a Prove-it deal now, we'll see what happens. Maybe the lack of FA attention will wake him up and lead him to try harder. Cleveland should get the best of whatever he has.

He is far from useless, but without speed, he better be a beast at jumping for contested passes or out-muscling defenders for the ball. He better be good at working back toward the ball after his route, because of the poor separation. He better ****ing be able to concentrate on keeping his feet in bounds in critical moments. He just wasn't. Whether he just didn't feel like putting in the effort.. I don't know.

I'm glad he is Cleveland's problem.. and this is coming from an LSU fan that really liked him. I thought he would be far better than he was in 2013 through 2014.

Dude got paid... dude got lazy. I honestly think this was the deal.

He rocks at the 5 yard come-back, catch, and sit. If only there was a seats after catch stat.

If you were to check the football dictionary for quarterback purgatory, Alex Smith’s face would be right there. Smith’s evolution into a super-conservative passer has been a major issue for the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl hopes. Fifteen years ago, Smith may have been regarded higher, but the league has shifted, emphasizing playmaking at the quarterback position.
A major reason for Smith’s low interception numbers (23 in the past four seasons) is his unwillingness to make somewhat difficult throws. He completely averts risk whenever possible. This hinders the offense because the Chiefs lack dynamic plays.
Quarterbacks with too much variance are an issue, but there is a happy medium to strive for. Winning with Alex Smith will be impossible until he shows the creativity required to produce big plays as a passer.
Chortle.

1) Sandy, I want you to envision the greatest O-line ever assembled. That O-line can have players from ANY era, at ANY position. Imagine the cleanest, most long-lasting pocket ever created for a QB. I'm talking 6+ seconds of brick wall, every play. Now imagine Alex Smith, running outside of that pocket, and searching for the closest 5 yard target he can find because throwing up the middle might incur the wrath of a wayward palm, or god forbid, a safety or linebacker!

That is the reality.

2) I love winning lots of meaningless regular season contests!

I just don't understand the niner fans morphing into pretend Chief die hards. It's still weird and somewhat creepy.

lol, why "pretend"? Been a devoted follower of all KC aspects the last two years, and plan for that to continue. It's stupid to force some self-imposed rule on myself to that I can not thoroughly enjoy multiple teams of any sport. Sports are a part of our entertainment. There is no desire in me to be monogamous about it.

Don't worry about anonymous people's motives, as if they mattered.. they do not. Just as your convictions matter not for me. We are all but people that enjoy KC football +/or the game itself. Do not concern yourself with making it more complicated.

Look man, theres no point in hashing out what Smith is or isn't at this point, we all know his limitations by now.

But the cold, hard, proven fact is, when he's surrounded by a strong overall team that's well coached, he can not only get you into the playoffs but win when he gets there... notice I didn't say "carry", but yes... with the right pieces in place he can win big.

I believe he is referring to winning something beyond the Lil' Chiefy "respectable fartknocker"-award for league participation.

Winning a play off game with 9 pro bowlers is a tough feat apparently.

Len Dawson wouldn't have won it all in 70 without that HOF studded defense, Otis Taylor, Podolak etc.

Elway didn't win shit until he had a killer back, two stud receivers and a truly legit defense.

Come to think of it, all of the talk about "QB X" carried his team to a Super Bowl win is complete nonsense... a QB can kinda carry a team through the regular season, but once all of the teams are good he cant do jack squat without a solid group around him.

Ask Dan Marino.

Five years from now we're going to be looking back at Alex Smith's NFL career and thinking how hilarious it was that anyone thought he could ever be a QB who won multiple playoff games.

He will never win another one.

It happened when he had the chance to go to the playoffs. There are some things that you can fault Smith for, post-season play is not one of them.

He is the current active leader for post-season passer rating.

I do know that he folds when opponents score 24 or more points on him and he's the least aggressive QB in the league.

He's just a soft QB with no balls. The football world feels sorry for him, I don't because he sucks at his job. He's a limited QB.

He's sub-middle of the road, and he's the quintessential nice guy/locker room/leader.

In other words; the perfect Chiefs Quarterback as established by the long-term, suckass template.

I disagree.

I bet he doubles his 20+ yard in the air passes from last year now that there are guys that will be open and trustworthy for those throws.

He only had 18 last year, so I'm betting he tops 36 for 2015.

NWTF 06-06-2015 12:29 PM

Worst in the NFL? No way
Maclin is a good WR and showed that last year with Philly minus Deshawn Jackson. Some thought he was just a product being opposite Jackson and couldnt be a #1 WR.

REC 85

YDS 1,318

AVG 15.5

TDS 10

Of course I expect those #s to fall a bit due to Alex Smith being his new QB.
The rest of the WRs dont excite much, but Id expect Kelce to improve on last year and you still got Charles. i think theres enough there to be above average.

The elephant in the room regarding the passing game some people dont want to acknowledge is Alex Smith. Hes very good at some things, but pushing the ball downfield, and throwing guys open to make a play isnt one of them. He has to have a near perfect situation to pull the trigger beyond 15 yards. Even in a must score situation with the game on the line hes still dinking and dunking and throwing the ball away to avoid taking any chances.

He is who he is. Give him a top 3 Defense, top run game and a reliable security blanket to dump the ball off too within 10 yards his deficiencies will be irrelevant and his strengths become perfect for this team.
