Ever wonder why there are so many people who act like this in public? Whether they're screaming at a coach, or cutting in line, or shoving their way through a crowd, or doing a hundred other shitty things? Because nobody ever calls them on it. Let the loudmouth asshole bully and bluster, because standing up to him is wrong - there's a great lesson to teach your kids.
The only thing tooge did wrong was to apologize to the one who sucks the penis later. He didn't hit him, he didn't hurt him. What he did was teach the prick a lesson about not acting like a douche in public. Good for him. Seems like a lot of the ladies here got offended by that. Maybe you should all run out and get yourselves a new skirt. :shake: |
Probably not a good idea to admit in writing anything that could be used against you in a lawsuit. No email apologies. Apologize in private. Make sure he's not recording it.

I bet you wouldn't have done shit at all if you were in Tooge's position. You would have mumbled something about one of your guns and then went home and jerked off while looking at one. |

And I'm sure you would have just grabbed your doomed little spawn and run screaming at the sight of a fight. Then went home and smoked some dope with him later, because you're such a great parent. LMAO |

It's not a good thing to do but I can see how easy it happens.
I had no idea how many complete assholes were little league coaches and parents. I coach a young, coach pitch team. I've told 3 coaches and opposing parents to stop jawing at our kids(team) this year. taunting 1-2nd graders? really...I ALWAYS tell kids from other teams the are doing a good job after a nice play, or good hit when they get one. I've reminded them that this is coach pitch youth ball and we're teaching kids to have fun and learn to play ball with sportsmanship....but I'm not letting them get abused by some asshole who thinks he is coaching in the world series. Last week a parent in another town was standing by the fence at first base, bitching about their own coach to another coach...and to him in front of their kids....and running his mouth at us and our kids. The other coach's crime? Caring more about his team having fun than winning also. Seemed like a good guy. In the 4-5th inning, he started running his mouth to one of our kids who had just gotten his 2nd hit of the entire year, in our last game. That's when I walked over and quietly said my piece to him. I wouldn't punch someone over a little league game, but I apparently could be talked into it for being a dick to our kids. If you think coaching is bad with parents....try being a base ump for a tournament. I guess I have bigger things to get mad about than most of these people. |

I'm not ashamed at all. I'm not letting some jackass swear at the coaches in front of the boys. |

BTW, it's Saturday morning. Shouldn't you be doing something with your kid instead of arguing with people on the internet? He's upstairs playing with his Barbie dolls right now. As usual. |

But let's be honest. If that OP was written by someone else, there are two logical possibilities: 1) Booze 2) Smed |
personally, I think you should resign your coaching position. you are not suitable to be a role model for young children.
|
TBH, a lot of people need the piss beaten out of them. tooge's post clarified his behavior and made a lot more sense than him just walking up to the guy like he was Jason Statham ready to break some tracheas (I didn't know a trachea could break).
The problem with ****stomping someone in front of kids is that they have a hard time understanding the escalation of the situation, even if you are trying to be diplomatic. Thus, going to a remote area to talk further whilst collapsing this dude's airway is perfectly sensible. |
frazod has a great story about a fight he got in during high school when he got far too liquored up. I'm going to see if I can find it. It was funny, honest, and, due to the result, tragic.

I coached basketball many years. The parents were mostly great but had several that took things way to far. Yelling at refs that were just kids themselves. It is great to win but they lose sight that it should be fun. Why play a sport if it is not going to be fun.
It sounds like the guy is a bully and got what was coming to him. There is absolutly no place for that in kids sports. He probably beats his kids and wife as well. Great job Tooge for taking out the trash!! |
Putting someone in a choke hold is considered a brawl? I find it funny that you said "I'll punch your teeth in" then you end up putting him in a choke hold lol pussy

people today tend to live vicariously through their kids athletics....and let's not pretend that kids haven't been exposed to violence in our culture.
didn't a ref just recently die from an attack? |
|
The worst guy I personally know wasn't even in athletics in HS. Not a single sport and he was a complete tool, and he's convinced his kid is an all world 5 tool,5 sport superstar. They definitely aren't teaching that kid anything but to win at all costs, including cheating. They're going to raise a future asshole.

This reminds me of an incident that occurred back when I used to coach little league up in Canada.
I was an assistant coach and for the most part I was in charge of teaching the kids how to hit. I was really good at giving them instructions that I could relate to; in fact I was so good that they started calling me "Hitman." Anyhow, there was this constant loudmouth dad. I think his name was Shawn or Michael or something like that. He was always generally disrespectful and he thought he was God's gift to women with his long lair. All of the other parents hated him too. He would parade around and call himself "Sexy Boy" and talk about inappropriate subjects with his friend Hunter. Well, one day he took it too far and started disrespecting Canada (he was from the USA). I told him that I'd had enough of his crap and to not mess with the Hitman. He challenged me to throw down. I went to take off my awesome pink shaded sunglasses (it was the mid 90s) and hand them to one of the kids so they wouldn't get broken in the fight. Well, when I turned around Shawn grabbed a folding chair and swung it at me. I happened to see him out of the corner of my eye so I had time to duck. While he was off balance from his miss, I gave him a quick kick to the stomach. As he was doubled over from the kick, I landed a quick uppercut that sent him sprawling. I hastily climbed the dugout fence and jumped down on him with a flying elbow. This kept him down, but he was still mouthing off. I decided to apply a move my dad Stu taught me. It was a leglock we called "the Sharpshooter." I got the Sharpshooter locked in. After about 5 seconds, Shawn had had enough. He tapped out and vowed to never come back. All of the other parents in the stands were cheering me. I reminded Shawn that "I am the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be." As soon as I said that, the announcer guy played a cool heavy metal song over the loudspeakers. After that debacle, I moved on to another less successful little league. I retired quickly afterward though and I was never able to replicate the success I had in the original little league. |
I think what tooge did is perfectly acceptable. Economy is slow, he's drumming up business for himself.

Fantastic thread; would read again.

So you got into the altercation with the parent outside of the view of the boys?
How did he get there? |

Bugs has some good stories about me. Maybe he will read this & post a few? Like the time I fought a entire family in his moms front yard & won. I can still picture Bugs mom ringing out the rag full of blood over & over after I got done beating on Micky's face. This was before he started coughing up blood. LMAO |

God, I used to love to fight.
There really isnt anything more exhilarating. Lucky I never got hurt. Ran with some BAD MFers. |
The only mistake that I think tooge made was escalating the situation immediately. The guy was obviously being an asshole and deserved to have this fact spelled out for him. Beginning with "if you'd called me that, I'd be punching your teeth in", leaves no room for anything but a violent encounter. Tooge should have followed the guy to the parking lot and attempted to explain to him that his behavior was unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the future. If the guy still wants to act like Billy Badass and is unwilling to listen to reason, then you give him a beat down in the parking lot.
Then after the beat down you remove the T-tops from your TransAm and blast Whitesnake from the stereo as you drive away. That way the kids still think you're cool. |

Like I said, I umped for damn near a decade. I've started coaching again recently and I used to help coach my youngest brother's teams when I was younger too. There are several ways to prevent that shit, and as someone else mentioned you should have left off the punch you in the teeth remark. Also, now that I coach, at the first practice I make a big speech that we are out there for the kids and I will not tolerate berating the kids, other team, or officials. Once the expectation is set, it goes a long way with the other parents policing each other's behavior. Parents acting like jackasses at little league games is a huge pet peeve of mine. I'm pretty good at shaming those people into stopping that behavior since I've had to deal with it so much. I've had coaches try to fight me when I umped, and I've made them look so dumb that they later come up and apologized. And 10U is usually the worst age group for that shit. I hated umping for that age group. All the parents think their kids are way better than they are. A lot of them don't know the game at all so it makes it even worse. |

Turns out, Bob Dole isn't the reason we can't have nice things: this guy is. |

he instigated the fight with the man AFTER he was leaving with his kid. He waited there, watched the entire exchange, did nothing, said nothing. then once the guy was leaving this dickwad puffed out his chest and told him he'd kick his ass. Then didn't. He's a paper tiger. And as others stated, any sports league I've been around (even for adults) have a zero tolerance violence policy, and he should be banned if this is true. |

Take the high road next time. You're coaching 10-year olds who will likely never forget the time their coach choked out some parent. It really wasn't your fight to fight. |
