That's the kind of bullshit rule I want to kill the rules committee for.

This... And clearly he lead with the helmet on the run. It's only OK if the offense uses their helmets as a weapon and spears.

I guess I don't get it. I rewound it just to make sure I wasn't crazy, and it's a completely textbook helmet to helmet. His shoulders didn't even hit until Cutler's facemask was turned 50 degrees to the left.

Not as clear as the slowmo they showed live, but...

Sorry.

Still don't see it.

That helmet goes into the shoulder.
Cutler's head snaps back because of the force of the hit.

But that is NOT helmet to helmet.

Mr. Laz 11-11-2012 09:12 PM

may have been covered but i'm on mobile so ....

if it was an illegal forward pass then cutler was beyond the LOS

if cutler was beyond LOS then RB contact rules apply, not QB

so how was that an illegal hit?

milkman 11-11-2012 09:13 PM

And, in case you missed the call on the penalty, it was not called helmet to helmet.

It was "Unnecessary roughness, hitting the QB above the chest".

chefsos 11-11-2012 09:16 PM

Well, now I look up and see Jason Campbell in there.

cyborgtable 11-11-2012 09:17 PM

but beyond the LOS a QB is considered a RB and there is no unnecessary roughness rule

Bears don't have a 3rd QB on the roster... so Campbell needs to stay healthy here.

He was throwing a pass, just beyond the LOS, close enough that it was challenged by Smith.

I don't have a problem with the refs enforcing that rule in that situation.

I just have a problem with that panzzyassed rule.

You are not missing anything. When the going gets tough Cutler quits. And in this case he doesn't like playing when it's cold, rainy and windy having already thrown 2 picks. He never has had the fire in the belly to win only a fire to know when he feels he has the potential to look worse than he already does.

Cutler is a mini-Jeff George.
