heh, would you sit in this can to watch the All Star Game?

An Oversized can with air conditioning that will seat 10 lucky fans in the Pepsi Porch area in Right Field.

AC? I'd sit in it to watch the field be mowed. I think that's pretty cool actually.

I would rather see KC in a World Series than the All Star game in KC or The Chiefs in a SB before the SuperBowl hosted in KC...

but it is what it is... Its the Chiefs and Royals. This is the closest they will get to anything meaningful for the forseeable future. Might as well enjoy a small taste of the good life before reality slaps this city in the face.

sedated 07-05-2012 10:15 AM

I’m getting pretty sick of hearing about the All-Star game, actually. Today’s morning of talk radio consisted of: more whining about Butler not getting into the HRD, an interview with KC’s mayor about how great KC is, and 810’s nonstop pandering about the commemorative booklet (or whatever) they created. I’m glad we have a station that carries ESPN radio so I could hear some legit sports news.

But it's a once-in-a-lifetime event, resulting in scarce tickets.

People should be getting a premium for them.

This is absolutley true, but it's a shame that MLB cranks up the prices so freaking high that average fan has zero chance of seeing the game live. I'd love to be able to take my daughter to this, but looking at potentially $2,000+ total to do it just for the two of us is just insane.

The game haas become a marketing tool that panders to businesses and the rich and famous, and that's too bad.

I don't understand this at all.

DeezNutz 07-05-2012 11:51 AM

Don't really care. What I hope is that the national spotlight shines on the ineptitude of this franchise for the last 20 years, thus bringing much shame and admonishment to the Glass family.

For fans like you and I, this is the ultimate goal. Unfortunately, not a single **** will be given inside the Glass household for any negative press they receive.

First time he'll be at the K all year, and not a single Royal will be playing. But he'll get to watch some Cardinals!!!!

Wait, seriously? I had not been aware of this. If so, then

I hope they light that old **** and his kid up on tv, then.

Just sell the team to the Sporting KC guys, FFS.

I don't like all star games at all. I think they are for casual fans. Of course if you want to watch an all star game where Kansas City players are represented all over the field you can watch the MLS All Star game July 25th 8:30 ET on ESPN2 as they take on Chelsea at PPL Park in Philly.

How is that even possible?

KCUnited 07-05-2012 12:24 PM

Regarding the Glass family and the current state of the Royals, it's like forgetting grandma has cancer for a few hours at the family reunion. Despite the shit baseball witnessed over the years, the K has been a pretty damn special place to me and I plan to shelf my cynicism for a few days and enjoy being out there when the spotlight hits. I certainly won't blame any Royals fan for feeling whatever way they feel though.

qabbaan 07-05-2012 12:28 PM

Count me in the group that doesn't understand spending a thousand dollars to see an exhibition game. I don't think I would pay that to see a World Series game. Maybe, but certainly not a sure thing.

I think the game is usually a snore when its on TV... But I guess you don't have to listen to Joe Buck if you are there.

Unfortunately the chances of anything like this are slim-to-none. The national media doesn’t really give 2 shits that this thing is in KC, other than maybe some chatter about the fountains during the Homerun Derby. And even if they did, I doubt they would waste their time discussing how the franchise that currently occupies the stadium has been a laughingstock for 3 decades. And even if they did, they will fall into the “small markets simply cannot compete” stance that people like Glass have worked hard to make popular.

I doubt national media like ESPN want to make their agenda trashing owners of major sports franchises. I’ve never heard them say a single bad thing about Donald Sterling, and that guy is pretty much the devil.

i think alot of would like to see that, but the ASG is the wrong forum for that.

This will basically be a 2 or 3 day blow job from ESPN/FOX to MLB, The Glass family and the city of KC.

No, I was being hyperbolic. At least I think I was--no knowledge at all about the amount of games that Glass does or does not attend.

I do know, like most of you I'm sure, that he avoids interviews with the local media like the plague, which wasn't the case when he wanted local tax dollars.

I have chosen apathy. So not sure what is worse.

Dr. Johnny Fever 07-05-2012 01:12 PM

I'm as big a baseball fan as anyone on this board and sadly I can't even say I'm excited about the ASG. It's cool that it's in KC and I hope it's a good game and visitors are impressed with the stadium and the city... but really I don't think it much matters if they are or aren't.

I don't know if it's because a couple of our players got snubbed in a game in our own city, or no Royal being in the HRD after we thought we were going to have one, or just what it is, but I'm not able to muster any excitement really and I find that disappointing.

Sadly, that sounds like the most intelligent move, by far. Save the energy for people who actually give a shit, like the Sporting ownership group.

Not to be debby downer about the whole thing, but can anyone remember (without looking it up) where the all-star game was located 2 years ago?

Then it was New York two years ago.

It's a complete and total shame that the best sports complex in the country has encountered/enjoyed championship play just one time.

ONCE.

pathetic.
