I will also add that is does not translate to good pep/marching/concert band music.

We used to play Chicago/EWF/ and all other kinds of music for pep and marching band. Horns make a song.

Today-it is just. thump thump boom boom thump. The music teachers in my school are having a hell of a time finding music the kids are interested in playing. Kids want something from today--well-it does not work well. The Admin told the teachers to make the class more 'sexy'. yes. You heard it.

Justin Timberlake does not turn into a good pep band song when a band is 12 players.

The Grammys have always been garbage. It's fodder for teenagers and gay dudes.

GloucesterChief 02-03-2025 09:41 AM

Todays corporate promoted music, because that is what the Grammys are, is pretty trash. Plenty of good stuff. You might have to spend some time to look for it but it is there.

The fact is, much of new music, as has been mentioned, all sounds the same. I'm not being really wowed by vocals, and there is way too much emphasis on auto tune. The level of talent required also seems much lower. Long gone are the days of Michael Jackson (a freak, but a ****ing genius), Prince (see another freaky genius) and so many others. I'm an old school metal guy, and admittedly I don't listen really to any new music at all. Sometimes I'll hear something catchy though.

They don't write em like they used to.

Also, check out my band!o:-)o:-)o:-)

Then look at her face. Something is not right.......

There's a barrel full of "not right' going on with those two. Nice body though.

Bandcamp is full of great music from bands CNN isn't going to tell you about.

The most popular music is almost always the worst music IMO.

Especially if you're in a band. One of the best ways to get your music out there.

I don't really care if music is woke that much if it sounds good. I like the Chapelle Roan song and it's woke. But Kendrick Lamar is awful and it seems everyone likes it. I've never understood. I'm of the age now that I am out of touch mainly with new songs and I don't even know how I would find new music. It isn't even a rap thing because I like rap, even somewhat newer rap like Logic and Joyner Lucas - ok not too new - but not much older than Kendrick's older stuff.

I listen to stuff that's woke and stuff that isn't. I listen to stuff that is overtly Christian and I listen to stuff that is anti-Christian. I like music for music. If I was that concerned about lyrics, I'd read ****ing poetry. More than anything, I like music that challenges traditional thought and societal norms. You can do that from any side of the political aisle you want. That's the glory of art.

It’s not the dance moves or the messages being portrayed, it’s just not good music. But white middle aged guy is probably not the target demographic for most of these artists so they care **** all about my opinion. Hell, the last “new” band I got into was The Killers and they’re what, 20 years old as a band?

Same for the most part. Love the Killers. They seemed to be a good bridge from the older style of "rock" to the newer style of "pop" "electro rock" type music.

Some newish sounding bands I KIND OF like are The Neighbourhood, Foster the People, Twenty One Pilots, Grouplove, Bleachers, Glass Animals...but yes most of these bands are not even very new.

htismaqe 02-03-2025 01:52 PM

I've seen Twenty One Pilots live twice. My girls used to really love them. Not my cup of tea but damn if they weren't great live.

Same. Jazmin Bean and their presentation is very woke but damn the music is good. Helps that their latest album is not very woke but focuses more on recovery from trauma and drug addiction.
