I am a bit of a hypochondriac and if I suffered something particularly severe I'd probably take homeboy's advice and just play for 3 years to get that pension as well.

Having taken home nearly $1,000,000 in three years would be a great start to my life.

Say you put 650k in a IRA. You retire from the NFL at 25. You NFL pension kicks in at 55 as well. IRA is a 30 year one. I guess you would make what 5 million off that.

Annual IRA contribution limit is only $5.5k and 401k only $18k.

Reading CP you would think about 45% of posters are concussed.

no. not ever no. what you do for a living was a curiosity. i thought you made boars relieve their nut by hand. i wasnt going there because you didnt go into much detail. i wanna leave it at that. but no, you went to the 800lb "dismount" and concussion risk.

spitter eh?

Yep. You play that 3rd year and you will get about $16,000 a year from age 55 until you die.

Throw that in if you are smart with what you got as a player and invested wisely you could be doing alright.

Interesting stuff on the pension.

If we assume that you're eligible at 55 and get 30 years of pension at that amount (and that it doesn't adjust for inflation), the current-day value of the pension is about $135,000. Not chump change, but it seems like the current salary might be a bigger issue.

Where's the zero percent option? Need a lot more $$ to voluntarily have my eggs scrambled...

DaneMcCloud 01-02-2016 11:01 PM

Zero.

Nothing is worth CTE, a diminished life and a predetermined death at 55 years.

Life is full of way too many opportunities to give it up over such a small sum of money.

Hive 01-02-2016 11:07 PM

1.3 million is about what the Mike Webster experience was valued at. Take the deal.

this is huge can of worms. there first has to a definition of concussive brain injury.

Chief_For_Life58 01-02-2016 11:31 PM

Honestly I would wes Welker that shit and get concussions every game. Work hard for that big money second contract. Then I'd be able to hand out 100s at the Kentucky derby

Buehler445 01-03-2016 01:02 AM

I'd play out the third year and see if I could lock up a decent second contract. If I were still looking at league minimum I would go back to farming. If I had to farm again, that $350 large will buy a tractor. No implement though.

Unless it was for the Faid or donk. **** them. I'd bomb the stadium on the way out.
