Nobody in that list dealing with a contract like Mahomes and dipshits like Clark sucking up the cap.

But it was advertised that Mahomes contract was structured the way it was so that they could basically re-structure every season and turn his roster bonus into a signing bonus? https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/p...roster-intact/

So we structured his contract in a way that allows us to be flexible, but now we aren't being flexible because of his contract? So what makes his contract any different than the other mega contracts?

If that is plan I am ok with it as it is my understanding the cap is going to go up exponentially next year. Let these other teams have their fun this year winning in FA we will still be contenders this year anyway

Unless it's Frank Clark...

The Chiefs will definitely be pulling back this year from their standard “hosting the Championship game”.

They aren’t getting the 1 seed no matter what they did with that they had IMO

chiefforlife 03-18-2022 11:49 AM

Sign Sammy for the first half of the season, then draft Jameson Williams for the second half!

Problem solved.

You understand how that shit works right? The money just doesn't disappear. It makes his cap hits in later years keep increasing. At some point...you have to stop doing it.

Ha! It gets better.

4.55 million signing bonus plus $3.725 million base for $8.275 million in guarantees (so, y'know, exactly what I was saying) PLUS another $75K in per game bonuses.

So if the dude just goes out there and gives us 15 games of largely ineffective ball has he's likely to do, he's gonna take home about $9.4 million for it.

Yeah - totally necessary. Something that absolutely had to be done.

****ing stupid deal, man.

So sum this up for me, I'm no cap savy expert what so ever.

So how much would we have paid to not have Frank Clark on the roster as a post June 1 cut that counted towards this year's cap?

Would that have been enough to sign a replacement after the Reid signing?

Were there any other DEs out there that fit Veachs age requirement model that we could have paid less for?

Seems to me they did this because they were going to have to pay him regardless and that money would have ate into signing another guy and maybe they didn't like the available guys due to what Veach typically looks for in FAs? Age being a big one it seems. So they just went with this to get immediate cap relief now.

Wonder if we're just going to let the other teams blow their load and sit back. Judging by how rough our schedule is I can't really argue against it.

If im understanding this correctly, it's the $13M that woulda been dead cap PLUS 9M in new money.

DJ is arguing that he woulda used that 9M on anyone not named Frank Clark. You were going to pay the 13M anyway. But the 9M; coulda just used that on anyone other than Clark.

It's understandable.

You're missing two games in there. Bucs and someone else.

Yeah I understand. But it's not like Mahomes is being cut anytime soon, why do we care about spreading his money to future years if it keeps us competitive each year. This is something that they promoted as a feature of his "unique contract structure".

And I'm sorry, you just can't complain about not wanting to push money to future years while at the same time pushing Frank Clark's dead money to future years.
