He didn't improve. About midway through the season the coaching staff widened his split out from Thuney and they helped him every passing play with at the least a chip.

Not that a few didn't make some plays, but the most memorable thing from that game was the plethora of drops, which was magnified by the knowledge that it was an unproven group.

The SB vs. Tampa was very similar to this game. It was just an outlier of a game. Perhaps they bounce back next week and look competent. Perhaps they'll just slowly improve as the timing and knowledge of the offense progress.

But with 11 drops we still only lost by 1 pt and that was with a gift 6 from Toney.

Myles Garrett is as bad a mother****er as there is. And I'm sure they ****ing HATE the Bengals. Bengals will be better for sure.

As far as OBJ, I dunno. Burrow isn't Mahomes and Taylor isn't Reid. They're probably going to push harder to continue to do the shit that will let Chase, Higgins and Boyd stretch the defense. As well they should. If they have to help Brown on every passing down, that very much limits their capacity.

Burrow was blitzed a league low 15.6% last year.

Browns yesterday (with a new DC) blitzed him 38%.

Burrow was 2/11 for 16yds. Niiiiiice....

The OL was so bad that there wasn’t much talk about burrow not looking completely right. I think there was footage of him rolling his knee around on the sideline with a trainer. Those two in combo are not a great sign. If he was rushed back that really impacts his mobility and makes him an injury risk

He never tried to leave the pocket or run at all. If you weren’t paying attention it was easy to overlook it but he’s not right and not mobile. Gonna see a lot of blitzes I think z

Dude, take a look at Micah Parsons last night... OMG. His closing speed was insanity.

Garrett, Parsons, and Bosa are just so fun to watch.

Higgins had 8 targets and 0 catches. Burrow’s jump ball luck ran out and they couldn’t even score a TD. Such a shame.

Tyler Boyd is a really really good WR3. About as good as you’ll find in that role.

He’s a good second WR, but he doesn’t unlock things the way that the trio does.

Teams can solve for Chase and Boyd.

The Watts and Garretts of the world are quick enough to chase Burrow down from behind when he and they are both sprinting full speed. That's why he has so much trouble with them. With Chris Jones Burrow is JUUUUSST about 3/4 of a step faster than him so if he sees him coming and has any distance whatsoever he can get away. Garrett chases him down like a wolf attacking a rabbit.

Crazy to think they could have got both. Would’ve been the draft haul of the century. At the very least could have landed pre-diddles Deshaun for a rookie contract. Instead they got cute with money ball and ended up with jabril peppers/deshonne Kiser/Njoku. That is an even worse trade than trubisky because nobody would’ve considered either Watson or mahomes a reach at their spot

I guess it depends on the source. From what I saw on Pro Football Reference it showed the average HOF DT having a score of 105 and Jones was at 43 and change. Now how accurate they are, I do not know. But if they are pretty accurate, he isn't even half way.

JPH83 09-12-2023 10:52 AM

If the Bengals have a problem this year it's not OBJ, it's that the entire line is pants, and in particular the LG. OBJ has gone from having Thuney next to him to having Cordell Volsen. I do think that Browns DL is elite and they won't be half as bad down the road. But it's crazy it's STILL a potential problem for them.

The last 2 seasons.

6th in completions
8th in attempts

1st in completion percentage
4th in yards
1st YPA
3rd in TDs
(T)3rd in INTs
4th YP/G
1st in quarterback rating

I think I’m going to root for the Bengals in that one just so that they’re both 1-1 (and hopefully the Chiefs are too). Then I’ll root for the Ravens later on in the year so they split.

Let's be honest, a lot of you guys have been Burrow ballwashers in level-headed threads. I never have or will understand propping up a non-dynamic guy like him whose success is both grossly overstated and reliant on his WRs and D more than any other QB.

That said, I was sticking with Allen on body of work and ability to create out of nothing, so I'll eat my crow since he's apparently regressing mentally, not progressing.

So heck, I dunno who QB2 is. I do know the gap to Mahomes has never been wider. It might be unlike anything in history tbh. Not trying to be extreme, just can't remember a clearer chasm between the top guy and the next tier, at least in my 20 odd years watching.

It's gonna be amusing watching you all post about how dogshit Smith and Taylor are in a couple weeks.

Maybe Cincy just doesn't value OL and protecting the most expensive qb ever.
